Soo I have been going to the tanning salon for about 7 years (on and off) what are everyone's thoughts about the tanning salon compared to tanning outside and cancer??

They both pose the same risk as far as I'm concerned. With as many easy to apply sunless tanning products on the market, why chance it?

I will chime in that I am not a fan.

Here are two clips I found in the science literature after a very fast search.

Sunlamp usage or tanning salon attendance was a risk factor for melanoma after adjusting for potential confounding variables (OR for ever vs never usage, 2.06, 95% CI 1.30-3.26).

Similar to outdoor sun exposure, short-term recreational tanning salon exposure causes molecular alterations believed essential in the development of skin cancer.

yea I have to say it is not good. Either one I think. I have to use a cream that my dr perscribed to me this year that is
Supposed to kill any pre cancer cells on my face and chest. can't use it yet till I am out of the sun. Unfortunately I work out doors a lot. But I wear protection. A hat and 45+ sunblock all the time. But I wouldn't do a tanning a bed. And welcome to te by the way.

Wow, that is news to me. I did not know something like this exists, and forgive me for being higly skeptical that it works? What's the name of this product?


I'm also in the "you don't need any extra exposure" camp. I'd never go to a tanning salon. those suntan-in-a-can products produce a yellow tone, ack...

In the dead of winter, going to a tanning salon really helps my SAD (seasonal affective disorder). That and eating alot of omega-3 rich foods have helped me get off of antidepressants.

My approach is moderation.

There is a topical cream for treatment of sun-related skin cancer. I have a tube of it around here somewhere for one of my horses that has squamous cell carcinoma. Got it at a human pharmacy and it was $250 per tube (at cost) for a neosporin-sized quantity. Now if I could locate it, I could tell you the name.

The one I've mainly seen used is Aldara. There's another one out there, but for somereason I can't think of the name.
