View Full Version : Actually thinking of selling my PowerTap 2.4 SL..

Need advice...
I got my PT in March of 2007 thinking I was going to use it to get stronger/faster so I could hang easier with my buddies. I got a book "Racing with a Power Meter" to help figure out the science, etc behind it all. I did the training schedules (with help from a racing guy pal) and LT tests (yuck)..and got quite a bit stronger. I never wanted to race though. I don't have the guts..and am too chicken to screw up my back surgeries.

I pushed myself hard enough that by the end of the year, I'd just about started hurting myself. I think I found my limitations while finding my "groove".
Seems a waste now to have such a nice training tool and not really use it anymore for what it's really meant to do.

Anyway..so that the main reason for thinking of selling. I'm trying to "feel out" the local cyclist market to see if there's interest in my stuff. I'm curious if I'm asking the right price for it. ??

It is a SL unit, but the local Saris guy got me a 2.4 computer head. Why, I'm not sure. I guess you could get a wireless hub and this computer head would work with it...but why would anyone go to the expense? Anyway..

There's the computer head, the rear wheel, and also a matching front wheel. I havent seen anyone around here who went ahead and got the matching front. (The front hub is a little lighter than Dura Ace!) I have a little over 4,000 miles on the 32hole Mavic Open Pro rims - never crashed, fell, or took any serious holes. The rear hub's battery was replaced about 2 mos ago. I'd throw in the book I mentioned too...and all the original stuff that came with the PT.
I paid about $1450. What do you think of $900 for my "slightly" used PT?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

P.S. Sorry about the dirt.. Dang this camera! Shows everything!!!:D

My BF just bought a used SL with ~5000 miles, just the rear wheel/hub for $800. And he was really happy with that price. Based on this, I'd say $900 is probably a good price for yours. Just to clarify: Are you selling this here? mmmmm...(powertap )

See what one in your condition would go for on ebay. I do that with the watch it now function & by using the search for completed listings. Then I price my item accordingly. I've sold two bikes this way without haggling.

Thanks gals! I will look around a bit more at what others are selling for.

Give me a couple more days on the "am I selling it here" part. I have no idea how to ship wheels, etc.. Though,... I guess my LBS does. I would have them dis-assemble the kit from my bike anyway, and I'm sure they have boxes.

Thanks again! I'll keep ya posted. :)

It's a power meter - it's a training tool, used similarly to a heart rate monitor.

What's an SL, and what's a PT???

PT=PowerTap, a specific brand of power meter. There are a number of models, but they all are based on a rear wheel hub. Other brands of power meters are based on cranks (SRM) or chain tension (Polar).

SL= Super Light
You'll see this designation for all sorts of bike equipment, and you know that with bike equipment, the lighter something is the more $$$ it is.

Eden/Ilima -Thanks for helping the others when I didn't respond as fast!

Okay girls..if you would like to consider buying my Tap/wheelset and all its lovely accessories (software, training book, usb dock, cables, etc), I will pay shipping to you - in the U.S. (apologies to our international friends).

I've seen similar stuff on eBay for less, but not identical. Tonight, there was a very similar wheelset, but with a PowerTap Pro (instead of SL) and I think he wanted 8-900..something like that. So..I'm thinking $900 w/shipping is probably pretty good. If I'm offbase, honestly.. let me know.

Also..if you know anyone who might be interested, please ladies.. let them know. :)

I am trying to sell locally, but its tough to get my actual racing pals to list it for me. Go figure! They will just lose out if they wait too long, eh?

Thanks!!!

P.S. I've ordered my replacement wheels from Colorado Cyclist. Identical Open Pro rims/dt spokes (except in silver), but with Ultegra hubs. Not quite as light as my PowerTap hubs..but that's cool with me. As soon as they are made and arrive, I'll take the baby to my LBS and have them gingerly remove my PowerTap cables, mounts, etc.

BTW - I saw a near-identical PT set/kit auction off on Ebay in the last week for $810. He didn't have Salsa skewers (any skewers) or the book I'm offering, but I will reduce my asking price to this.

However, I think I'll have to revoke the prior shipping offer with this price drop.

If you're interested, please let me know. The Tap and all related gear is now off my bike and being cleaned up/readied for shipping to a buyer ready to up his/her game. <wink>

Thanks!

Hey kids! A buyer found me this morning! If all goes well, the exchange/sale will happen at our Wednesday Night Ride.

A Cat 1/2 racer is buying this for his fiance. Isn't that sweet? Thoughtful, anyway! They can train together..spend more time together. awwww.

Keeping my fingers crossed for Wednesday!
