I just applied for a sweet job today doing content management and copy writing for a bicycle e-commerce site. I was so nervous about the application that it took me three days for fear of making an error! It worries when me applications are really relaxed because I want to show my personality, but I'm afraid of coming off too casual.
So think happy thoughts, pray to whatever deity hears you, wish me luck, etc. I need this job or I go packing back home!
Ah, Smurf! What an exciting opportunity!
Sending glittery jittery amazing butterflies so you will shine and be noticed; gently arcing big blue and green butterflies to bring you peace and calm so you feel comfortable in your own skin, and a few delightful orange butterflies to remind you of all you have to offer so your confidence radiates.
If it is meant to be, you'll get it!
Hugs and butterflies,
~T~

Thinking happy thoughts for you, Smurf. I agree - you write well, and copy editing is not a bad segueway into a writing career.

Thanks a bunch! I have an interview tomorrow with a natural pet products store and got a promising email from the bike place. *happy dance* I dropped off my resume at the camera store, but yeah, that's as dangerous as me working in the bike shop, if not worse because my fantasy camera is $8k.

Well I'm about a week into the pet shop gig and I'm loving it. It's tons of information to absorb but it's not bad when it's something you care about.
That, is a minor detail compared to the fact that I got a call from the bike/writing people today. They want me to come in and interview! Hurray! Now I just have to find time! Ack! I am so excited! This would be a dream come true, I think. *bounce*bounce* :D;):p

Well, I brought the butterflies with me to the interview, they were good company. It was a little nerve wracking because they had me do some test write ups and such. I am still a little bit of newb when it comes to components, especially road stuff. Here are some stunning examples I remember:
"With an Ultegra drivetrain and Dura Ace components the Felt F55 will respond to your every command whether you're leading the pace line, or your Sunday group ride."
"The ultimate epic ride has finally met its perfect match in the Kona Coilair Deluxe."
I think the funny part is that afterwords he chatted with me a bit more. I believe he said something to the effect of, "I'm a little amazed here Hillary. You've done some great write ups for us, where does it come from?" I think he was hinting at my lack of related or any degree. I resisted the urge to say, "From my butt" which is mostly true. I just told him flat out I've loved reading and writing all my life and it's just how I write. What I think of as a casual email or BB post others see as a great story.
Meh, I have my fingers crossed, but even still it's amazing to be considered. It just serves to remind me that I am capable of more than this "just a customer service rep" rut I've stuck myself in. I feel so strangely fine. Something pulled me to this state, and something is keeping me here. Maybe it's testing me, making me ride out the challenges (of which there have been many) before it shows me what it has for me.
Either way the parts for my bike should be here Monday, and tomorrow I'm going to try and use a sweet "crack and fail" road bike to pull a beautiful teenage girl out of some nasty depression.

Glad it went well! Sounds like you were quite impressive! Great job. And great job sticking your neck out for something new and uncharted!
Good luck with the teenager -- tough stuff. I hope you help.

No kidding ;)
you don't need no stinking degree for that, just about five issues of Bicycling Magazine.
Sounds like the guy is wearing an easily stretched wool hat :p
At any rate, good luck!

Weee! I just had a very long day and came home super tired. Despite being tired I can't sleep because I haven't wound down yet. Anyway, I was checking my email and saw that I had an email from the bike copy writing gig. I figured it was thanks but no thanks since it was email, not a phone call.
Much to my delight it's a "We really like you, talk to so and so about when you can complete the next step in the application process." Sweet! I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high, because the "next step" has been mentioned before but always very vaguely.
Oh man, this is so scary exciting. Like my first job in web design at 17 and scared to death. Now I just regret not putting myself out there and trying to do what I wanted long ago. I guess I figured it was degree or nothing. Not sure why since I got my web design jobs on skills alone. *sigh* So happy.

OMG!!!! Okay I don't have the job yet but I was looking through my missed calls today on break and saw one that I thought was the vet so I called it back. A little bird told me maybe it was Will from Smart E-tailing but I wasn't sure. Anyway, turns out it was him and he wanted to know if I was still available. Uh, yeah, for you, tomorrow! Anyway, as it stands they're deciding in a week so I am crossing my fingers and praying super hard that they choose me! How could they resist! Ack, talk about an emotional roller coaster. First Hank, then this. I'm up, I'm down.... *bounce*
Love them butterflies, smurf!
Yahooo!! Not only will Hank be feeling fine in no time, but you'll be doing a job you love, too.
Hugs and butterflies,
~T~
That's awesome! Go ahead, let yourself get excited and be proud of making it past the first cut. Fingers crossed you get the job:)

My very good wishes to you! Relax. Be casual and personable. Writing ability is a small part of it. Heart is what counts especially when writing about something so loveable as bikes.

Good luck! It sounds like it's your turn to have some good things coming your way soon, from some of your other posts. Waiting for that job offer is a tough spot to be in, so hang in there. An observation from a recent job hunter: This company seems to be moving a little slow with their decisions, so don't get discouraged if you don't hear from them right away.
