Boy howdy I never thought I'd be so proud.... But as the title said- RS took 2nd place in his first ever BMX race.
Funny thing... First place was a sweet girl named Lilly!!! :D
There are a few girls out there that just rip up the course! In fact one that I helped get on a bike has them in her hands. She's crafty. She lets them THINK they are winning and then she catches them in the inside of the last turn and leaves em in her dust...:D:D:D
But I digress... :p

RS was nervous about getting out there and racing. And I can't say that I'd blame him. They have to balance on a gate and then it drops and they come shooting down the ramp onto the track in front of everyone. He's also not the type of kid to put himself out there. But after months of watching from the sidelines he decided to toe the line and give it a try.
Funny thing... The kid appears to be a natural. I was SHOCKED to see how smooth he was the first time around the track. I mean he's been mtn biking with dad since he was five (he's 11) but BMX is a whole new animal. His dad was struggling out there.
He LOVES it too!
So his first moto (they do three) he came in second and I was like "Huh?? go figure?! His first race and he places???". I was so excited tho!!! And then his second moto he came in third. The one boy he was racing with caught him in the corner and he couldn't pass him. It was very close at the end though. And as it turns out his chain was loose and he jammed a cog and couldn't pedal at the end!! Poor kid! But he was able to get it fixed and got another second in his last moto to claim second in the rookie 11-12 division.
I was beside myself I was so happy for him! I was hugging people and just giddy. Everyone is amazed at his talent.I had people coming up to me all night commenting on how good he is.
It's funny. Of all the things I thought he might be good at BMX racing was never one of them?? Go figure?! But he loves it. We love being at the track, and it's a very positive experience for him. So I think we may have a new sport. Forget the soccer mom thing... I'm gonna be a BMX mom. :p

Oh- and after the race RS told me that he told the boy he was racing against "I'm not here to race. I just want to have fun". He said he's even amazed that he won.

I'd already commited to getting him lessons with the track pro, so we'll see what he says when RS goes over for his clinic.
As long as he doesn't teach him any high flying moves! OY it scares me when I see them flying through the air! Esp. after what happened to Justin!!
I don't need RS taking any 13, 000 dollar heli rides anytime soon!!

OH- and running hubby was the caboose in his moto's in the cruiser class. But heck, he got out there and did it! And he loves it. So it's all good.

And NO I will not be buying a BMX bike anytime soon to go join them...
