I'm new to the bay area (south bay), and looking to buy a road bike (actually 2 bikes - one for me, and one for the hubby). I'm new to road biking, and would really like to find a bike shop that is helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable.

I've done some research on bikes, and know basically what I want (Trek Pilot or 2.3 WSD, or Specialized Ruby; not ruling out non-WSDs until after a few test rides). Yesterday, we went to two bike shops, which shall remain nameless. At the first shop, a large Trek-only dealer, we wandered around for 15 minutes, looking at bikes while outfitted in all of our spandex test-ride ready glory, and were not even acknowledged by the staff. When I finally introduced myself to one of the employees, he proceeded to tell me that Trek doesn't make a 2.3WSD , and continued to be fairly unhelpful. We left there to go to a much smaller shop that carries both Specialized & Trek. The second shop was great, and infinitely more helpful, but didn't have any bikes in my size that I could take out on a test ride. Frustrating.

Can anyone recommend a shop (or shops) in the south bay area or on the peninsula that carry Specialized and/or Trek and have consistently helpful, knowledgeable, friendly staff?

Here are some bike shops. You can find more info at their respective URLs:

Velotech - http://www.velotechcycles.com - Doesn't sell Trek or Specialized but my favorite shop.
Chain Reaction - http://www.chainreaction.com/ - Sells Trek
Bicycle Outfitter - http://www.bicycleoutfitter.com/ - Sells Trek
Cupertino Bike Shop - http://cupertinobikeshop.com/ - Sells Specialized

Also most of these bike shops sell more then just one brand so you may want to limit yourself to Specialized or Trek. As for the level of help you'll get I think most of these places are pretty helpful. At least when I have gone in them but your mileage my very, as they say.

I recently met the owner of
http://www.conceptcyclery.com/Home_Page.html at a cycling clinic and she seemed extremely nice and eager to help people out. She mentioned that her shop also stocks a lot of WSD bikes.

I was considering a Trek and went here a handful of times. They were very helpful and patient. I'd definitely recommend them if you're interested in a Trek. I went to the Redwood City location.
