Playing with my Garmin, I see that in the last 12 months, I've climbed 59,000 feet.
I know it's not mountainous in Indiana...but this struck me as a lot;)
How about those of you in mountainous areas...ever look at it like this?

Where did you look to see the total climbing? I went to history-totals and didn't find anything.

SadieKate has had some interesting ways of comparing her climbing to other things, distances around moons and such. It was pretty cool to see her updates in her sig line.
I'm at 100,888 feet since January. I get over 200,000 feet every year. My most ever was 2006 with 286,668.
Really shows how different our terrain is, doesn't it. Plus I mountain bike too, which gives me lots of climbing.

I wouldn't call Maryland mountainous either. ;)

KG: I did it through my Motion Based account. I found that I could add columns to the "Digest"
Others: WOW! I better get out and start climbing!

That's fantastic! And you didn't suffer altitude sickness. ;) :D
By the way, you are not helping my spending habits by boasting the powers of the mighty Garmin. Oh why do I have to be tempted by such matters?

Hmm, I don't have a 'paid' account. From May 2nd to Dec 31st 2007 I had about 85,000' tho. Can't go back further than that in 2007. Very interesting!

Indiana has plenty of hills, no mountains, but plenty of hills. I switched from bike journal to:
www.bikewire.net
and it tracks climbing, I'm at 59,859 ft for the year. I love the flats, climbing makes you a better rider, but it was hot this afternoon and I swear we were climbing into a strong headwind - double painful.
Hows the RAIN training coming?
I got a second (standard class) in the TT yesterday, and we are heading over to Dayton for the Bluestreak TT Weds. Still need to work on longer rides, but the TT's are fun.

You just haven't gone far enough west...

But out West they're just hills.
They can't help it, they're old and worn down :o

I just got an Edge 705, and I'm in geek heaven :) I'd have to do the ride I did today 444 times to do that much climbing!

I'll be ready for RaIN as long as we don't have a head wind. I've done 300 miles this month with some hammin' times (for me). I think that it's going to be a function of proper nutrition planning and pacing myself (something I'm not good at said the hare to the tortoise...)
Congrats on the TT showing!

I remember SK's moons of whatever. Funny. I'm at 104,856 for the year. Way down from prior years at this time, due to the broken shoulder. Oh well. My best year was 2005 with 306k. We are lucky with our terrain here - and we go out to the Sierras at least twice a year, sometimes more.
My training goals for our Death Ride team are basically a 10:1000 ratio. If we have a 50 mile ride, it should have 5000 feet gain. I'm a pretty mean coach. :D
