I got a strapless dress a few days ago, but haven't been able to wear it yet because I have an extreme biker's tan. This is partly because I'm forgetful about sunscreen, figuring so long as I don't burn it's just so much vitamin D. Also because I am at least a little proud of being marked as a cyclist.

I've got the brown circle on the back of my hand from the bike glove, as well as some odd looking spots because this year's bike glove has a crocheted back. That's ok, but the farmer's tan makes my shoulders look ghostly white and the dress makes me look ridiculous. My daughter said it looked like I was wearing long gloves on my arms.

I bought a tube top to wear on bike rides to brown up my shoulders to match the rest. On yesterday's ride, I put sunscreen on the tan on my arms, to let my shoulders catch up.

I possibly overdid it. Instead of brown-and-white tan lines, I am brown-and-red. That's better than last year, when sleeves of different lengths on different rides resulted in brown-red-white so I looked like neopolitan ice cream.

rofl. mmmm, ice cream.

it's weird...my hands are really tan, but there's no delineation to indicate I've worn gloves. I have a nice line on my thighs, though. I've got to stop wearing bike shorts that are longer than my regular shorts!

Love, love, love the tan lines! Especially the quirky hands -- tan fingers, white hands, thin tan strip above the glove, thick white strip where the road ID is worn -- yep, makes for quite a few stares when out in public.

And don't forget your racoon eyes. white around the eyes and tan everywhere else on your face. :D :D

Looks very comical.

I have been using lots of sunscreen but still have white hands from the bike gloves. It's starting to look really weird. I would think the sunscreen would keep me from darkening much. I'm olive colored, so I don't burn, but I am starting to look stranger than normal. I'm not particularly vain, but I guess all the bicyclists will know where I've been.

My skin tans like that's its job. I hate it. I'll be out wearing sandals and immediately get a tan line across my foot. I get the raccoon eyes really badly too. This year I'm trying to be diligent about the sunscreen and for the most part it's worked. I even bought myself that aerosol-like sunscreen spray from Coppertone. It helps to get all those places like my shoulders and back that I can't reach myself otherwise. So far I'm good with no tan lines on my hands nor on my legs this year and nothing too noticeable on my upper body unless I'm wearing a strappy shirt or dress.
