Anyone had a custom titanium road bike made? which company did you pick, Bianchi, Merlin, Litespeed or Habanero? I'm shopping for a custom Ti and would appreciate hearing about your experience! :)
Thanks!

Bianchi???
Bianchi doesn't do custom ti.....do they???
I have a custom ti and carbon Seven ID8 and a stock Seven Axiom.
My DH has a custom ti and carbon Seven ID8.
They are all fantastic bikes.
No one does custom ti like Seven (http://www.sevencycles.com/home.php). They will customize the tubing, the butting, the diameter, everything, to dial in the fit and the ride, for you and your riding habits and style.
You cannot consider custom ti without adding Seven to your (very) short list. I am completely happy with my bike and highly recommend them.

Hey thank you everyone!!!

Yes, Bianchi has a custom program. They can customize everything you like - including the S9 Matta. BUT, it's way too expensive even for a loyal "Bianchista" like me ;) The S9 stock is already around 7.5k, and if you add custom frame build... you end up pretty much with a 10k bicycle.
Totally out of my budget...

I will look at Seven, thank you for the link. Actually I must confess that... it's the first time I hear about them!!!
Thank you girls for making my list longer :)

If you want to spend a lot of bank, Independent Fabrication is another custom builder. The Crown Jewel is their flagship model.
I love my plain ol' stock Merlin!

I, too, have a custom Seven Ti bike (http://forums.teamestrogen.com/showthread.php?t=16017) that I love. Much of the success of the custom Seven process, IMO, is to have a good LBS that you are working with (well, I suppose that goes with any custom program).
I test-rode a Habanero also, but the Seven just felt better to me, and I have always loved the way they look.
Good luck, and have fun!

I don't have Ti (yet :) ) but I really want a Lynskey. I haven't riden one but they are the family behind the original Litespeed. The ones I have seen at bike rallies are oh so sexy.

Personally, if I were to go Ti, I would go with Moots. DH has a moots single speed mountain bike and it rides amazingly well (not fully custom though). Many people I know have purchased a custom moots road bike and absolutely love it. They're just classic beauty.

Spectrum from Tom Kellogg. Fits perfectly and is the most stable descending bike I've ever owned.

LOVE MY LYNSKEY! :D It is by far the best Ti bike I have owned. I am not the best climber, but the first ride on my Lynskey and I was keeping up with my husband. The size / fit is amazing. I don't feel stretched out over the toptube.

I rode all weekend with my friend here in town who owns a Ti Spectrum. You're both taunting me! I hope to talk to Tom when he comes to Indianapolis for the NAHMBS in February.

Good timing... I'm mulling over a couple of quotes on a Seven vs. Habanero. I'd save a lot of $$ on a Habanero, but I like the way Sevens look. Terrible, isn't it? :D

I have a full-custom Ti Crown Jewel from IF and cannot imagine having a better bike. I have an amazing LBS & between him and the folks at IF, I got my bike dialed-in perfectly. When I get another bike, it will be an IF. You get what you pay for and every penny of my money was well spent, IMO.

Totally understand. I'm still in the dilemma, whether to settle for a cheaper bike or save more money and sign up for the Bianchi individual... But I did look at the Seven and totally love them, the axiom race is just beautiful!

hey there, I went out to get fitted for a custom Ti by Tom Kellogg this morning. Wow was he great. The process took about three hours and was unbelievably comprehensive. Tom Kellogg is a great combination of super nice and super knowledgeable. I can tell you more about my bike in a few months, but around here he is really known for producing comfortable, well fitted, durable bikes.

I'm still not sure if Habanero frames come in any other colors except "titanium". I'm guessing not. I like color, like a nice orange. :D I figure if I'm plunking down this much for a custom bike, I should just get what I want. Of course, you can't beat the minty Bianchi green.

Actually I think Habanero would paint your custom frame if you ask them to. Bianchi definitely does it if you want, although the S9 originally comes in plain titanium - and I like the color of natural titanium. The colors available from Bianchi are at:

Hope this helps. I'm still undecided... :)

I've always lusted after Seven frames - not sure what it is but damn they are sexy! :) I'm close enough to them to go knock on their door :)
My shop does custom Serrottas but I haven't heard anything (good or bad).
As soon as I can save my pennies I'm going custom Ti. so many choices......

True, the plain titanium isn't bad. Wow, that's a deep pink they've got there! Yowza.

I have a Serotta Ottrott, Custom ti/carbon, and I love it. No drooling over any other brand of bike for me.
If you check out the Serotta Forum you'll find many posters who love their Serotta Legend (ti).
http://www.serotta.com/forum/
Serotta also tunes their tubes to the size and weight of the rider. Looking at the Haberno website it's not obvious if this is the case.
