Greetings Iowan TE'ers. The news about the flooding you are experiencing is breaking my heart! Has it ever been this bad before? I wonder if they will have to cancel the RAGBRAI? I hope there is quick state and federal response to help with shelter and drinking water, and eventually rebuilding. I rode RAGBRAI in 2006 and fell in love with the kindness and hospitality of Iowans. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Tokie

My family is north of Fort Dodge and still fairly dry. I haven't heard about my family members further south.

I rode RAGBRAI last year - just one day and it was the most fun I've ever had. This year my sister - a non-rider till now - agreed to do one day with me, and collected 5-6 people from work to join!

I hope the flooding issues like drinking water do not have an impact on this - for small towns trying to rebuild it could be a huge economic boost.

Anyone else from the area? Are you guys ok?

An update was posted on the RAGBRAI site:

RAGBRAI Update - June 14, 2008

The thoughts and prayers of the RAGBRAI community are with all Iowans that are affected by the floods and natural disasters that our state has been experiencing. RAGBRAI is still planned to take place on the scheduled route on July 20-26, 2008. We are closely monitoring the situation throughout the state and in the towns that are looking forward to hosting RAGBRAI next month.

Many people have asked how they can help. The volunteer needs are constantly changing, so we ask you to visit The Des Moines Register to see how you can help. People wishing to donate to the relief efforts should contact these Iowa - American Red Cross chapters:

Des Moines Area Red Cross
Cedar Rapids/Iowa City Area Red Cross
