View Full Version : My Madone!

Here she is, and what a ride! :D:D:D:D:D OMG, I love it SO much and I've only put 5km on her. LOL. I didn't truly feel the difference until I rode it on familiar roads. It is SO smooth I can't believe it and the acceleration is amazing. Then I had to test it on a hill. I didn't try the big one today because my legs are sore from my run on Sunday, but I rode it up the hill I often do repeats on. I usually slow down to 9.5-10 kmh near the end of that hill and today I was easily doing 14kmh all the way up. I had been worried about moving from my triple to a compact double but the lowest gear felt ok. I am anxious to try it on my 'ugly' hill and see how I do.
Anyway, here are a few pics - one clean, and one geared up. (PS Trek Madone 5.1)

Oh I don't know what to name her! I have such trouble coming up with names. None of my other bikes have names either although I sometimes refer to ny Giant as Betsy for no apparent reason.
Any suggestions?

She's so sexy and sleek... maybe after some starlet from the hey-day of the silver screen?

I'm drooling with jealousy! She's beautiful and so sleek! Wow.
Madone translates into Madonna.... so you could go with "Mary", ... of course there's always "virgie" :p

I thought about Madonna (Madone) but can't get the singer out of my head and I don't like her.
Edit: Jesvet med - I hadn't read your post beofre I said that. Funny!
Virgie????? Oh, Virgin Mary?

She reminds me of Veronica Lake.

i am so jealous, there's a new madone right in the front of every issue of velo news and i've been lusting every time i see one. yours is my favorite so far (except the new tour de france issue has a yellow one thats awful purty).
did you know the new madone is not simply an upgrade, but a whole rebuild from the ground up.
have fun!

And then I also thought about the name Gwendolyn which was my D&D character's name. I've always loved that name.

Gorgeous bike! I rode one when I was on my bike search and it had a heavenly ride. I remember when I first got on it, it felt so light it was almost like there wasn't even a bike there. I vote for Madison. A little more regal than Maddie for a classy bike!

Sad thing is, I'm a teacher and I have negative connections to a number of names. Makes it's hard to name your kid too.

My husband and I had that VERY discussion when we talked about kids. We ended up not having any in the long run, but naming one may have been close to impossible! As he liked to put it, if we had a girl, "it won't matter anyway -- she's not leaving the house until she is 18!". There ya go -- good thing we stuck to pets only!

Thank you!! I want to bring her up into the living room so I can just look at her. She's 47cm.

My mom is a preschool teacher. She didn't have many aversions to girl names (lucky since she has two daughters) but she's said many times that she would have had a very hard time if she had a son  !
Ooh! 47cm!! MY SIZE!!!

My new bike stayed in the livingroom for about a month when I got her. I think a little living room time is vital for proper socialization of the new family member.;):D
I like Maddie. I have a niece named Madison and she goes by Maddie. She's a very good girl and accels at most everything. So to me Maddie is a very positive name.
My new bike is Fiona. She just told me one day after I'd had her about a month.:)

You should have seen yesterday after our first ride. I got caught in a downpour and she got all muddy. Had to clean her up already!

Princess Fiona does not like to go out in the rain. But she's had to endure it a few times. It's funny how much more prompt you are about cleaning duties with the brand new bike. Strange really.
Sad thing is, I'm a teacher and I have negative connections to a number of names.
I totally understand! My three darlings are named quite eccentrically.

Luckily, I've never met any kids with these names!! (I know of 2 famous adults, but I've only gotten an autograph from one of them....)
Happy butterflies to you and your Miss Divine (or whatever you decide to name her). Enjoy!

Pledge wipes come in very handy for keeping the bike looking spiffy after a ride ;)
I've also heard they have other uses inside the home (dusting?) but I'm not sure

I had a PR coming up the ugly hill today (just a smidge over 1/2 mile, at 10%). My previous best time was 3:30 and that was only once. My usual time is 3:45. Today, on my new bike, AFTER a 2000m swim and a 45km bike ride, I went up that hill in 3:20. Wahoooo!!
