We're trying to get the fit on our tandem down, and are having real difficulty with my position on the rear of the tandem. The seatpost is a 270, and we (including our local shop) cannot find anything with enough setback. According to the shop, we have 20mm of setback on the post we have now (I'm not sure how to measure it). Anybody know of a seatpost that 1) comes in this size and 2) has more offset? My knees thank you:)

This probably won't work (and it's expensive) but you might be able to search for cheaper options from Nitto that will fit: http://www.rivbike.com//#product=11-048

Beautiful - but sadly the wrong size:( Looks like everything Riv has is 272 (27.2). *sigh*

It didn't occur to me that finding a seatpost for a mid-90's tandem would be hard...

nah, don't look at Riv's site. I just pulled that one up because I remembered it. (wrong size, but I wanted you to see it anyway)

I cannot find Nitto's home site. I had it once, it's something kind of odd for the name. Anyway, if you can find it, take a look. (I was researching a handlebar and stumbled across the Nitto homesite and just about swooned from excitement)

Nitto makes a TON more stuff, and in odd sizes and shapes, than the tiny selection we get to see on dealers sites.

I'm not good at searches, but someone here will be, I'm sure!

And you can always see what options you can get through QBP, but I'm guessing your shop guys already tried this: http://harriscyclery.net//page.cfm?PageID=49&action=attributesearch&Category=185&type=T

FSA makes a carbon seatpost with 35mm of setback... but my guess is they don't make a huge range of diameters, probably 27.2 and 31.6. Worth a try though, it's the K-Force seatpost. It is on the pricey side, but I haven't seen another with 35mm of setback.

Thomson posts may come in a 27.0 size (I'll bet they do actually), but the setback option is limited, I think it's only like 16mm.

If you're near a frame shop, I'd consider having the frame's seat tube professionally reamed to accept 27.2 seat posts.

Thomson does have an Elite Setback post that is only 16mm. It does come in a 26.8. This might be possible with a shim to 27.0. FSA and Titec both offer greater setback seatposts; however, they only come in 27.2.

FYI on this....

I called Wallingford Bikes (www.wallbike.com). They stock seatposts with lots of setback in virtually every size available. I'll post a separate thread on the saddle (still not sure it's going to work), but the seatpost problem is fixed.

And Knott - it was a Nitto:)
