I've ridden 160.3 miles since Sunday and climbed 11,275 feet! I squeaked past my monthly mileage goal. :p I convinced Thom to ride Diablo this morning so he'd get his two trips for the month. I messed about on the flats at the bottom and then went up to the Junction. But that left me short 7.5 miles. When we got home I went out and did a short loop of 9.5 miles to get it done.

We had two weekends when we did not ride at all, thanks to our bathroom floor - which I sealed yesterday! and crummy weather.

I'm tired but pleased.

CONGRATS on achieving your goal!!! :D :D :D Isn't that about 3 times up Diablo (at least to the ranger station)? It's so satisfying. Your ride around town sounds familiar- I often do that also to get my required mileage in!

I think you need some treats for all that work!!

I won't tell you what I did partly because I did 2 centuries and a bunch of other rides including the one I did with you and crew! However, I didn't do Diablo which I consider worth many flat or partially hilly miles!

I'm going to have to get one of those computers for my bike that measures altitude gain.... :D

Yeah! Hilly miles should count for more than flat miles. Maybe .5 mile should = 1 mile if it's a hill. I could get into this way of calculating mileage!

And a hill with a head wind is at least 2X more - right? But, do you have to deduct miles for downhills with tailwinds?

And a hill with a head wind is at least 2X more - right? But, do you have to deduct miles for downhills with tailwinds?Yeah!!Every foot of elevation gained has a corresponding downhill drop. So Veronica is really just a big slacker! She coasted down 11,275 feet! :D

I've heard of Lance training where he'll climb a mountain, then ride down in the team car, then ride up again. Veronica, maybe you should start leaving a car at the top of Diablo! ;)

Total mileage for the month 399.8. 26,038 feet of climb.

Come on Nancy spill yours. We know you're a bike goddess. I want to be either you or Cher when I grow up.

Next month's goal is a little easier - 373 miles. I don't actually have a climbing goal. :D And I won't leave so many miles to be done at the end!

Please don't tell me you would ever deduct miles for flat-riding!!! We are vertically (un)challenged around the great lakes. Way to go, Veronica!!!

Me - I was riding around the parking lot while Thom used the restroom yesterday, just to get a few more tenths. I'm not deducting NOTHING! And all the way up Diablo, I'm thinking, yeah, all those flying downhill miles count!

Okay V, I'll get my calculator out and spill the miles!
Sorry we won't see you this weekend especially since I now have about 40 of my girlfriends (known and to meet) doing this ride! We might even have some media coverage- that tidbit remains to be seen. I spill those beans after the ride!

You and Thom better have a sterling weekend. Looking forward to pictures and story next week. :D :D

TX for the compliment. Maybe my avatar should be Bike Goddess. Kinda like that distinction! :) :)

Speaking for myself, "We're not worthy! We're not worthy!"

Nancy, what kind of mileage to you expect to have for the entire year?

Bike Goddess

Well, I'd be happy if I did 5,000. :D (Gee, that's at least across the country and a little bit back!). So far, I have plans for: Wildflower Century, Santa Rosa Century, AIDS ride century (practice ride), STP in July (206 miles), AIDS ride in June (585 mi in 7 days), Napa century in August. Haven't figured out the rest of the centuries for the year- maybe the eastern Sierra century. Past that I don't know. Depends on my work schedule and when I can get time off.

I get a lot of the little miles in during the week- 11 miles MWTHFRI so that helps. Also when I ride with the "boys" we do fairly long rides. (see Cinderella epilogue for that one).

Now, come on you women, I'm not the only century freak around here! :)

It must be different for you Californians. Here in the Northeast, we don't get enough good days to put in that kind of mileage. Maybe if I rode in cold and wet and snow (and rain and sleet and..hey, I could be a postwoman) I could do it. I am totally in awe of all of you who put in so much time and energy. I thought I did really great by riding 1700 miles in the past year, and I'm hoping to do more this year. But 5000? Wow!

Fasteryet, I was thinking the same exact thoughts while reading these posts. In fact I was just telling my husband (as he just brought up aol weather, rain, TH, Fri, Sat) I think we need to head out west. This has been the worst.

needless to say, May will be create a whole new backyard month. we hope it doesn't interrupt riding much.

those miles are just incredible!! My goals are not nearly so lofty (and my riding season just started and will end in September or October....)

Y'all amaze me!
