I have no reason to whine about this except that it bugs my eye....but I WISH my 47 Aurora had a horizontal top tube...

Logistically...it's great to have such an open stand over space...and when I'm riding it it matters not because it seems to fit me very well...

I think I understand that it has to do with being able to use larger tires on a smaller bike? Izzat right?

there......i said it...

I have a sloped top tube on my custom Luna. I chose it so that the bike would fit me extra well. So because of that I really like it.
I've decided the sloping top tube is like a little Arabian filly's arched neck....full of spirit and getting ready to rear up and go racing forward! :D
I've 'bonded' with my sloping top tube. :p

It has to do with both fitting the bike to bigger wheels and making it more comfortable for you. Could you stand over it if it went straight across?
for me, from an artistic point of view, i wish my top tube was horizontal too. But i get over it easily enough when i'm on the bike!

I agree, that is a beautiful bike. I considered those colors!
I think it looks fantastic!

Why I like a sloping top tube-
easier to get on the bike

What I don't like-
I can't rest my knee/thigh against it.

I am SO loving this bike :D

Zen- your handlebar bag and aerobars make it look like a smiling deer head with horns. See the zipper/mouth and the two eyes? The black deer standing in the forest......

I admit I have a preference for straight top tubes as well. But then I bought a Bike Friday:) There went convention. I love the Jamis bikes - they're beautiful!! And the sloping tube seems to be why women can actually get bikes that fit well now. So....form follows function - and it's still pretty:)

Somebody's having a mushroom hallucination ;)

Aerobars? Not me!
Those are end bars or bar ends or whatever you call 'em
but not deer horns:D

End bars? Never heard of them or saw them before!
I still see the deer head.
Well, at least I don't see Elvis on a grilled cheese.....yet.

Now where'd I leave that shitake salad dressing?......

You're kidding, right? I thought you were Sheldon's heir-apparent.
From the Man Himself-
"Bar Ends
Handlebar extensions which mount on the ends of a straight-ish mountain-bike style handlebar to provide extra hand positions."

my aurora and I thank you for helping us get over that little rough patch....:)

OH! and I bought brown Brooks handlebartape, but haven't put it on yet...the stuff on there seems pretty righteous.

Just think to yourself: 'Function over fashion' over an over again.

I have a custom bike with a small down-slope in the top tube. It fits me extremely well, and I don't think I'll ever trust a bike with a horizontal one to feel as comfortable.

beauty is as beauty does...::

it's true...I am very comfortable getting on and off too....and I can run/roll xcross the street straddling it....
