Disappointed by the silver screen

So I've seen Indiana Jones and Sex and the City movies...and I feel like I want to write up to the production company and ask for my money back. I'm so sick of movies disappointing me. The Hulk looks like it will be another one. I think I'll skip it and just stick to watching TV from now on.

And there's anything better on TV? ;) I don't plan to see "Sex and the City" (never watched the show, not even once), and I walked into a cheap matinee of "Indiana Jones" with no illusions about what I was going to watch.

Actually I really enjoyed the second-to-last movie I saw: "The Visitor." Some fine performances in a film about how an unexpected meeting winds up changing a man's life.

Anybody seen "Young @ Heart?" The trailers were a lot of fun, but not sure I could take an hour and a half of it... ?

I went to the premiere of Kung Fu Panda last week and thoroughly enjoyed the movie.

The documentary Bigger Stronger Faster is also recommended, but I think its still in limited release.

Yup saw it. I thought it was boring.. like when someone tries to stretch a 30-second commercial into a sitcom. Other people have liked it, though.

I'm a netflicker -- just watched "Seabiscuit" while I rode today (trainer day again due to rain!). Good story, especially since it's a true one. Everyone did a great job in it and it was beautifully filmed.

I know... I'm VERY behind on what I watch. That's ok! Cheaper that way, AND I can set up the trainer in front of the tv anytime. Let's see you do that at a local theater!

Sex and the City was fantastic! If you liked the series, you won't be disappointed. If you like fashion, you're going to drool--the clothes are AMAZING. I'm going to see it again so I can focus on the clothes (and Samantha's next door neighbor :eek: :D ;)). Oh, and dress up if you do see it. You feel like a shmoo when you come out.

ETA, dbf is coming with me next time. He loved the show. I'm a lucky girl!

I can't/won't watch anything will a lot of violence. That rules out a BUNCH of movies. I'm always puzzled about the rating systems. Seems that movies with sex always get an "R" rating, while some semi-violent movies get PG-13.:confused:

I don't know if Shine The Light is still showing up ín the Northern Hemisphere but down here it's received great reviews.

If you like foreign movies, I can recommend the heap I watched on the cool Singapore Airlines in-flight system...
At least I didn't play Tetris for 8hrs :o like I did when we flew Tokyo-Auckland a few years ago..

I'm not much of a movie person. I can't sit long enough! I hate the action, violent ones, too and I don't like sci-fi, fantasy,etc. I usually see 2-3 movies a year in the theatre, mostly foreign ones. We have some great art houses here, but it seems like more of our social life revolves around eating (and cycling).
We get 2 movies a month from Net Flix. Mostly they are foreign ones, with a few good US ones in there. Sometimes the DVD sits on our counter for 2 weeks before we have time or can stay up to see it.
I went to the movies a lot as a teen, but it seems like the movies were better then (boy, do I sound old). Both of my sons are movie "savants." They can quote dialogue from every movie known, both US and foreign. For years they were surveyed by some agency who wanted the opinion of the younger generation who were knowledgeable about film and music. I have no idea how this company got ahold of them. I finally told them to stop calling because they no longer lived at home!

Oh good, I loved the series, and can't wait to see the movie. Oprah had the cast on recently. Er, um, I'm sure Samantha's neighbor is worth gazing at, but I have to say, Kim Catrall at 52 is something to behold. My goodness. (Now waiting for the hot flash to pass...)

We rarely go the the movies any more. DGF and I do like the adventure blockbusters, and we have to see Iron Man. We'll have to see the Indiana Jones one. But Netflix and the DVR provide than we have time for. And it IS WNBA season, after all. :D

I have to recommend it. There are so many adjectives one could use to describe the film but SOBERING is the most appropriate. :( I don't know what i would do if i were in thier shoes. Perhaps make the same choices, which are heartbreaking.

Oh yeah, cycling is invovled! The "head" kid of the refugee camp..rides the most hilarious bike!

The last time we went to the theatre, we had to watch 10 minutes of ads ( at least) befere we got to the previews. For over $20 without snacks!! Who are you kidding???

Me too! Every time we go out of town, my DH wants to go to a movie (because the little local theaters are pretty crummy & uncomfortable, so we never go). My first thought is "Awwww, man, how am I gonna get out of this! What a waste of money." We usually end up not going, because there STILL isn't anything worth the dough. We wanted to see Burn After Reading, but by the time it finally showed up here, ever so briefly, we'd heard it was pretty bad. In my opinion, very few movies are theater-worthy.

we haven't been to the movies in ages. And, we discovered Netflix last year, so have no plans to go to a theater anytime soon!

We have been watching a lot of foreign or Indy films and love them. Chocolat was excellent! So was Shower (Chinese film that was incredibly touching and the title is misleading by the way as you might think "sex" but it's not). Also, "Not One Less," another Chinese film. We watched "Obama" last week--sad but good.

Good thing about Netflix is if you don't like it, stop the movie and mail it back--2 days later, you've got your next choice and all for under $10 a month!

Oh, and since it's colder now, I'm using my stationary bike for exercise most days, so I've been watching Netflix "Instant View" movies while exercise--pretty cool!

I am certifiable film junkie, always have been. In college we had a rental place where it was 99c a night, so Fridays I'd go take a wager on some no-name indy flick for Art Film Fridays. Some really great non-studio movies out there! Actually going to see stuff on the big screen, we don't go too often- maybe 3-4 times a year. We have discovered (thanks to a friend) that Framingham has a separate screen that's 21+ and you can have dinner and drinks while you watch the movie! It's the best way to see a film. It's a bit more expensive, but no one texting or talking through the movie. My movie list is so long I've been thinking about blogging it, but that takes time from my movie watching! My looking forward tos are Wall-E and Quantum of Solace until they roll out the Oscar contenders (Australia, etc).

ETA- There's also nothing like seeing a good art film in a really old theatre like the ones in Coolidge Corner and Dedham or the Lyric in Blacksburg, VA.

I love just laying in bed watching a good movie or having movie night with some friends.

I like going to the theaters once in a while when there's a really good movie out!
