View Full Version : Best mt bike fabrics (brush & briers) ?

I'm primarily a road rider, and my cycling wardrobe reflects this (lycra). I recently starting doing some mt biking. For lack of owning proper mt bike gear, I wore some of my road clothes. Any of you mt biker gals know that lycra and briers, tree branches, brush etc. do not mix well:(.

I have seen on line some mt bike specific shorts that say the fabric is nylon based. Which I know would fair better with briers. I have yet to come across tops that specify this. I wore just a long sleeve cotton T-shirt over one of my silky fabric road tops last ride. The cotton doesn't wick sweat so well, but kept my silkly fabric top underneath more protected (as well as my skin).

Can you suggest some brands, or specific items, and/or ANY tips really to help on what to wear in the brush?

Thanks!
Miranda :)

Thx for that link. I posted this question in the mtb section too. If I get some stuff from there, I'll have to share. I have a long torso. I have read that ladies like me can get away with wearing a men's small top sometimes. It opens up some other options.

Don't know how this link pastes, but it's a x-post to mtb on my brier clothes search. Sugoi Gusta shorts get the thumbs up from me. Tops are still being searched out atm. :)M

If you have lycra shorts you really like you could always wear nylon baggies over them.

Thx Zen:)... I was going thru my closet of some old worn out road shorts and thought that about my Gustas. I could get more bang for my buck with slipping them underneath the nylon a quickie fix if the liner is not washed.

I guess i must be a wierdo. I wear lycra, coolmax whatever stuff.

Unless i have a super bad fall, nothing has ever gotten ruined.

I have sugoi and louis garneau stuff that are years old and still look good.

I dont do baggy shorts. I just find i like bib shorts and a jersey with pockets for tools.
