I meandered into the LBS on a walk around the neighborhood yesterday just to look around. I hadn't spent any real time in this one yet. I started talking with one of the employees about needing a commuter bike now that I have a new road bike (cause really, you can't have enough bikes can you????) and he took me upstairs to see the new Bianchi Milano's. I got so caught up in how cute they are. He pointed at one on a rack hanging on the wall and when I went over to look at it I didn't see the step down on the floor. The next thing I know I'm on the floor with a very badly twisted ankle that won't quit hurting. They had to call an ambulance because a) the ankle wouldn't stop hurting and b) I couldn't for the life of me figure out how I was going to get down the stairs with my hurt ankle. I was so embarrased. :o

Hi Savra, I see you are 'relatively' new here, and my 'TE-attendance' these last few months has been sporadic... so I don't recognise your name and bid you a hearty welcome to TE.

I know I am going to like you HEAPS when you say things like this:

(cause really, you can't have enough bikes can you????)

BTW, hope you have had your ankle elevated and the swelling is not too bad :)
My partner and I have been known to strap ankle strains/sprains well and keep on riding, so hoping to hear you are back on a bike soon.

I am relatively new and have only posted a few things. I lurk often. :)
OOOHH, I can ride with a sprained ankle???? I like that!! That sounds wonderful. As sprains go, it isn't too bad. I give it a week for the swelling to go down.

Yeah, you can, but just take it easy... your effort should be active recovery - nothing strenuous but just moving those legs. On a sprained ankle, avoid hills.

(For me, this means doing the 1.5 km false flat in front of the house over and over and over... but its ok with an MP3)

Have you discovered the magic of arnica? A cream or oil to rub into the ankle, plus you can also take it by mouth via tasteless pillules or tastesless liquid drops in a glass of water.

For a sprain, do both - internal and topical - you'll be surprised how quickly you heal :)

As for the Milano... did you seal the deal, or are you going back soon? (no pressure, but to quote a very wise woman - "you can't have enough bikes can you????"

Arnica! I had forgotten all about the magic of arnica. I wonder where I can find that here. Thank you for the advice. I will go looking.

I was actually just looking when I wondered into the store so no, I certainly haven't sealed the deal on the Milano. Although, now that I can't bike I'm back to obsessively looking at the net for ones to buy. The Milano looks cute, unfortunately, I just spent $1000 for my new road bike so it will have to wait...... at least at little bit...... maybe......... :)

well it might make you feel better to know that I once broke my arm, in the lbs parking lot, test riding a mountain bike.:)

Ouch, I'm sorry you got hurt and I hope you heal quickly so that you are able to ride again soon.

Savra, welcome to the board and sorry to hear about your incident. If you do decide to ride, I would maybe offer your ankle with a little support like from an ace bandage/wrap. Rest does the best trick. Don't push it too fast or you'll be off your bike even longer. What LBS did you go to? Theres a bike shop I"ve missed in my adventures? I've been to Tom's ( I think that's the name) up on Walden Ave, and to Handlebars up near the Gates Circle HOspital and VA..(emphasis was near these facilites-I was only there once:D)..Not that I need a thing, but I always like to visit shops just to visit and see what I can't live without! Enjoy your bike.

I was meandering along Elmwood and went into Campus Wheelworks. They have an upstairs with a step that I didn't see. Nice employees and I really liked their bags for carrying things on the back of your bike. I think I scared them a bit though.

Somehow, that does make me feel better. I hope you healed quickly. :)
