TGIF everyone! :D

Well it looks like it is going to be a beautiful weekend here in the pacific northwest! Starting with today. Too bad I have to work today because it looks like a great day for a morning ride!

On Sunday is the annual Peninsula Metric. There are two start points. One is from the Gig Harbor Medical Pavillion in Gig Harbor. The courses from this start point are the 44 mile loop with views of the Puget Sound and beautiful back country roads (that are very hilly), the 100k (62-mile) loop, and the challenging 100-mile loop with more than 7,000 feet of elevation gain.

The second start location is from the Southworth Ferry Terminal in, where else but Southworth, WA! :p This has the shortest loop of 29-miles along the Puget Sound and rural roads, and the same two loops of Gig Harbor the 62 and 100 mile loops.

Joe, Jackie, and I are going to do the 44-mile loop. Joe is not in shape for the 62-mile loop so Jackie and I will settle for the 44 miler. We just want to get out and ride and to have FUN!

So are there any events in your area that you will be riding in? I would love to see what rides will be taking place this last weekend of May - firstweekend of June in other areas of the country/world!

Or will you just be doing your "own" thing/ride this weekend. I would love to hear about your weekend ride plans! The season is here! Let it begin!

Pedal On!

I'm doing the ROMA Bike Tour for MS on July 5-6. But I'm starting practice rides this weekend. I'm very nervous, I've never done a tour before. It's 110kms.

We have what is called "Outdoor Sports Fest" going on this weekend...they have it all: running (even a young girls race that many little gals have been training months for...very encouraging!) cycling (all sorts...mtb, road, bmx, uni), climbing, adventure racing.......

We will be doing a road ride that benefits Meals On Wheels on Saturday then going to the gear swap on Sunday (hoping to sell a few items...and maybe come home with some new un-needed toys)

should be a fun weekend!

Enjoy your rides...

Doing the "Tour de Hoot" down at McGehee, Arkansas this Saturday... first time they've done a century down there, and my first big ride event of the season, other than the winery thing the first of this month...

Put a big blue "Hoota Horn" on my handlebars just for this one...

I am doing the Tour de Cure (round these parts it's the "Tooah de cuah") Narragansett - 100 miles (I know I know, how does one do a hundred miles and still stay within the state of Rhode Island?) for Diabetes on Sunday.

Weather forcast started out looking bleak but by today they are saying it will be good.

Doing a 50 mile ride for MS on Sunday. Second time my brother (who has MS) and I have done this one, but the first time for my cousin. Supposed to be overcast, which is ok. I'd rather that than baking in the sun.

Here in the southeast, we've already had a few event rides--before it started to heat up--high temps forecast in the 90s this weekend! So tomorrow, it'll be a fairly mundane Juju-Sally-Chris 45-mile out-and-back through Blackwater River State Forest. It's a nice tree-lined route, though, with plenty of shade from that killer sun.

Thinking of doing the Bike 4 Sight here in PA. Not sure if I'm actually going to be able to get out of bed early enough though.

I'm riding the Tour de Cure here Sunday morning. It's looking like it'll be raining for it.

I will be doing a club ride tomorrow, may get about 20 miles in on that. Then Sunday I'll be trying out a possible commuting route, again about 20 miles total. I have not been riding as much as I should, and have an organized ride in two weeks, the Collin Classic, which will be 55 miles. May not seem like much to some of you, but it will top my current personal best of 51 miles in one day.

We've got a big birthday weekend here for my daughter (turning 11 tomorrow), and we're putting in a lawn and doing a bunch of other yard work, so don't know if I'll get a ride in this weekend. The most promising day looks to be Sunday morning, so maybe I'll squeek one out then.

Great, I just checked the forecast and now it's supposed to be sunny and 80. So much for not baking in the sun:rolleyes:

We'll just be doing a ride on our own...55 miles with some moderate climbing. This is likely the last "guilt free" one as by next weekend we will be homeowners again (with a ton of yard/house work to do). :)

For weekend, I or us, (now that he's back home from Europe), we do our own route-planning/rides.

Each ride over every weekend, ranges from 42-85 kms. daily. Tends to include grocery shopping near the end --on bike. I like to start early in morning.

However in a few weeks, we are planning to do our own annual cycling loaded cycling trip to Vancouver Island which will include some winery stops, etc. It seems to me, depending where we go /see on that trip each year, each trip is approx. 250-300 kms. over 3 days.

Other plans this summer and into fall are still being hammered out for details, accommodation bookings..but no real multi-day organized group rides. We just make up our own long routes and ride with our loaded panniers.

We don't have a car so we don't offer sag support for each other. :)

I'm doing the Tour De Temple this weekend sponsered by the Kiwanis club there. Weather is suppose to be nice, but I think it is going to get windy.

weather permitting i'll lead my saturday saunter... and perhaps ride earl y and after, depending on how stupid my stuffed head is being and how warm it is. I am so not a warm weather creature. I was crawling home today 'cause it's 88 degrees and i was on the verge of overheating. I much prefer 48 and even 28 or 8.

We'll do our ride on Sunday, with friends. I have a graduation party to go to at 11:00, so we will stay for an hour, eat, and then change into our bike clothes at our friends' who live very near the party. No idea where we will go yet. Tomorrow is going to be rainy on and off, so I will probably go to the gym and then do house stuff. There's supposed to be a break in the weather in the middle of the day, so maybe take the Jamis into town for lunch.

well...long time lurker, first time poster. No organized ride this weekend. I am hoping to get in 50 miles tomorrow and 70 miles on Sunday in preparation for next week's Albuquerque Century. Did Santa Fe (my first century) on May 18th...so feeling fairly confident for next week (hope I just did not jinx myself).

Today is my last day of work for the next 8 weeks:D so no riding today. Tomorrow will mark the official start to my summer vacation and I will be riding! The club is offering a 50 mile ride in the morning and a 25 mile ride in the afternoon. My goal is to ride both, have a good time and spend some time with some good friends.

NOt this weekend (as I'm working) but next weekend I'm doing the Rochester area Tour de Cure, a 100 miler. It was a fairly flat ride last year, and they said they changed the route to make it a little easier. I though it was pretty easy last year, with the exception of the wind!:) It will be the first organized ride of the year.

:( Probably none. My Nanny just moved to assisted living Thursday and her house must be sold ASAP to pay for it all. Dad is an only child so he, my mom, brother, husband and I have to clean it up to get on the market. Not fun and emotional. I look forward to ride reports to brighten my day. May sneak in a short ride or two this weekend but not likely.

oooh, now that I have a mixte freewheel I'm interested in this. But I'm in Northern CA. Is there a group up here?

I'm not riding. Oh, maybe an errand. But will be at AIDS Lifecycle helping out with bike parking on Day 0.

The udder century looks like a great ride! I would do it if I lived closer! I was checking out the pictures from previous years. The dinner spread looks fabulous! It looks like they really treat the riders to a great dinner! You should do it pll! And then tell us all about it! :)

I probably will (62 or 75 mile route). It is about an hour away.

My sister and I are doing the Loreen Miller Ride on Sunday. This ride benefits the local cancer care center and is named after a cyclist who died of cancer. We're hoping to ride somewhere between 50 and 100 miles. It's a good route, I ride sections of it regularly. June is the any weather goes month for NE Washington. Two years ago the ride was almost rained out, last year it was during the first really HOT weather for the area. It will be interesting to see if the forecasted thunderstorms pop up for the afternoon tomorrow. bikerHen

I worked at ALC registration at bike parking.

This amazing beautiful triple appeared. I got to talk briefly to the riders, they said .... they got the bike a week ago  nobody has tandem experience  including the captain

You'd be proud of me, I gave them a big TE smile, wished them a great and safe ride ... hope they survive and are still talking to each other in a week. ;)

I rode the Gears & Cheers Ride yesterday. It was my first experience of riding in the summer heat this year. The ride was a benefit for the National MS Society and the start and finish location was at a winery. We got to enjoy a box lunch, a glass of wine and live music at the finish.

Yep. Sometimes the excitement of the ride, camraderie (sp?) on the road, communing with other cyclists, plus the beautiful California scenery and doing it all for an important cause and we can accomplish amazing stuff.

Cross posted from the ALC thread here, here's more bike porn. This rider has a unique way of saying "get yer hands off my puhrty bike" :D

I ended riding the 62 miles, which turned to be 66, after missing a turn. It a beautiful day, sunny and warm, my first day riding with short sleeves and shorts -- some good progress restoring the cycling suntan lines :D. The route was great, with long stretches of road between farms (my camera is too big to fit in my jersey or saddle bag, but I wish I had taken many pictures). There were gradual climbs that were a bit exhausting for me, without any significant hill anywhere near home, but there were also extended downhills. I managed to go over the 30mph mark on one of them. My average speed, though, as 14.4mph...

At the end of the ride, for those who visited the link from yesterday, there is a "pasta dinner"... so after changing like Houdini in my car into dry clothes, and placing the bike in the rack, I had some dinner around 3pm and drove home. I would definitely do this ride again and recommend it.

This is Mr. CarolP's view of their tandem on ALC. At least I hope it is because I penned a note you see clipped there wishing them tailwinds and a great ride. :D

Carolp's top tube has a rubber chicken :p and it looks like it enjoys the ride.

Wonderful pll! I'm happy to hear that you did the ride and 66 miles to boot! It sounds like you had a great ride, on a beautiful day, with gorgeous scenery, and to finish it all up with a delicious meal! 14.4 mph on a 66 mile ride with hills is awesome! You should be proud of yourself! Way to go!

Sorry to say I did not get a ride in this weekend. The weather was just too miserable for me. I did go for a hike with my daughter this afternoon. That was it! Hopefully this coming weekend will be better!

Whoaaaa - I can't imagine that sweet triple on ALC with a rookie captain and stokers...they didn't even get to train on it really either...sheesh...will have to pray for that one to safely arrive at the finish!

As for that gorgeous Orbea, methinks that's the way to go with my next "puhrty" Seven...think I should add "and that means you too, cars! Don't touch or hit my bike!"

Btw, I rode my spin bike this weekend...have to sit upright though...as my head won't allow me to do any bending over w/o the wooziness...but at least I got on it, eh?!

We did the MS50 yesterday, starting in Windsor and winding around northern CT into MA briefly and back down. Last year I did this ride on my mountain bike with road tires and struggled the whole way. I also wasn't in great shape. Well, thanks to a new bike and a whole winter of hard work, I kicked butt yesterday! It was sunny (most of the time) and warm with some good breezes, never from behind, though. Last year I averaged about 10mph for the ride, this year it was 14!:D I actually passed people on hills and there was only one that I really struggled up. And near the end, I managed to catch up to my brother, who's usually lightyears ahead of me. My legs felt great at the end of the ride, just my shoulders and neck were achy. I'm so pleased with my progress, lets me know I've been doing the right things. A big congrats to all the other ladies who survived their rides this weekend!
