Still haven't been able to ride since the accident in September, BUT, just bought a catrike tadpole. I anxiously await the clearance from the pain and the doc to get on. My diamondframe days are done, but watch out recumbent land! Will send pics later, my friends stole the bike cause they are thinking about getting them for themselves after riding mine. The trike is SOOOOOOOOOO comfortable and fast. Anyway....just keeping you all up to date. :) Thanks, Invsblwmn

A friend's DH rides a red catrike and he let me try it out once. That's one snappy little devil--turns not on a dime but on a grain of sand. And fast? You bet! Hope you and your "cat" are out on the road together soon!
That's the best post on here maybe ever.
Congratulations, IWoman :D

I am so excited for you!
How are you doing?
How's the pain?
What color or recumb? If I remember, those ones come in array of colors! If it is the same one as I am thinking of, I saw it in purple the other day - really nice looking.
Are you working much?
Do you have any idea of when the Dr. will give you the A-OK?
Will you post picts?
After you rest from answering Flybye ;) I'm wondering how you decided on this particular model?
I'm so excited for you. Soon, I hope you will be telling us of your adventures on the sweet tadpole.

Doing ok, signed a contract for a new place to move in end of June, LOVE IT!! Pain, tolerable with all the appropriate meds, and hoping to move away from them asap. Back, knees, and arm still acting up but walking around, working half days, and sleeping 4-9 hours. Have no patellar reflex on left leg now. Doc thinks disk is heriated, physical therapy (MacKenzie techniques) not successful. Still need to discuss what we're gonna do. I am anti knife so that's not an option. Been doing recumbent exercise bike, so the transition to a recumbent trike likely to be easy. It might be hard to see through the tears of joy, but I think I will be able to handle it. :)
Trike is yellow. Seat black, but otherwise, looks just like the one below with a HUGE flag and I think I might add ten or twelve flags. No more invisibility while riding. FREAKIN EXCITED!!!!

Ooooooh, I want. I like is that lil' headrest. I like the idea of 'bents but riders seem curled up like shrimp and it look like your neck would be tired.
This is perfect. And it looks zippy and peppy and light and fast and I looooove the lines. Nice bike :D

Yes! I know this one! Tears of joy are so wonderful, and they come at the most unlikely places. It's okay, the butterflies will help keep your eyese clear, too.
Hugs,

My DH got a Greenspeed tadpole at Christmas. He is enjoying it so much. He does want to get a bull horn. He has a flag, but still there are some who don't want to see him. ENJOY your new trike. DH is so happy that he can once again find joy riding a bike.

I got so much pleasure from reading your thread.
You sure have a lot of guts, it's people like you that really encourage others to persevere.
I love the American expression 'You really rock'.................but you do.
You have so made me smile and shed a few tears too!
Take care.

I got the recumbent bug and today got a Rans Rocket for super cheap. So now I have THREE bikes (diamondframe cannondale that will be rehomed, catrike speed and rans rocket) that I am not allowed to ride. I am banking on the second week in June to be rolling. I go back to the doc to review my MRI and discuss options, hoping for just an injection in the disc and nothing more on June 9. BUT I am bringing pics of the bike/trike in to show the doc hoping he'll say, "Give it a try." :) My birthday is one week from tomorrow so clearance to ride would be the most awesome present ever. Life is grand, ain't it? :D

invsblwmn - if you've been riding a stationary recumbant I can't see whay they would say you can't ride a road recumbant unless there are issues with balance and falling. So make sure your doc understands what you've already been doing and go in with a plan... eg I only want to go 20 min on the flat at first, then slowly build up. If he/she knows you understand not to just get on and go all out and that you know how to gradually progress your activity, he's much more likely to clear you. As for the disc thing... research currently indicates that while surgery tends to resolve symptoms faster in people with significant nerve compression, there is no difference in impairment between those that have surgery and those that don't 10 years down the road. What I have seen clinically is that the epidural injections can be a huge help in getting people back to activity faster with relatively low risk.
Take care and here's hoping that you get out on those bikes soon.

Congrats on the new trike - you're gonna love riding it :-) I am attaching a pic of a trike that belongs to a friend of ours, Sylvia. She has been touring on her trike since last July (almost ready to come home from Mexico) - you're gonna like her flags - her journal is on CrazyGuyOnABike:

I hope you get to ride for your birthday!!!!

That is a pretty greenspeed trike. I tend to be a gear junkie, so the flags, ferring and cart are all super cool. She has a wonderful story, thanks!

Yesterday I volunteered at bike parking for registration day on ALC. From across bike parking I saw a bike as distinctive as the amazing man who rides it, the custom red trike of our oldest rider, 80 year old Bert Shaw. I ran over and said "hi".
After a bike vs distracted spacey pedestrian crash Bert ditched the standard bike and just kept riding. He has a Cat. :D
I think this is his 5th 544 mile AIDS ride. He looks ageless! :D
