Just curious what everyone has planned for the long weekend.
I'll be spending most of my time, all three days, at Portland Int'l Raceway, as part of the Race Committee for the "Human Power Challenge". (Fancy name for our Recumbent Races) If you're in the Portland area with nothing to do, come watch for awhile. Free to spectators, only cost is if you race. Check the website for info: http://www.ohpv.org/HPC/index.html I'll race a couple times but mostly be doing registration, then lap counting, figuring times and winners, preparing awards, etc. It's a fun weekend with all the folks that come from all over the US and Canada for it.
Come say hi if you stop by :)
So what are y'all doing?

I'm taking my day off from college and going to test ride bikes at the Trek store in Madison. Hi-fi or fuel? That is the question....

Moving, blech. Volunteering at the Celestial Seasonings tent during the Bolder Boulder 10k road race. People at work keep asking if I'm running. Hello, look at the size of my butt, does it it look like it? Noooo, I'm handing out cold tea to hot runners, and I do hope hot in several senses of the word.
Oh, and buying a new bike. Yeah, that's pretty neato too! Oh I hope my mom can ship my stuff to me sooooon! I just found an old pic on here of when SadieKate and I rode together and I was so much thinner and stuffs. Hope my fat butt still fits in my gear.
Goin' to Vegas for a date with Elvis.

A very handsome cyclist, who I met in another cycling forum, is flying out to spend the Memorial weekend with me. First meet :p and he's bringing his bike! We connect so many ways through writing, I hope we connect in person as well!

Hey good luck DeeDolce- I'll be sending good vibes today! :p
DH and I are putting on our 9th annual old-time music campout/gathering at a fairgrounds for about 100 musician friends all weekend. Gotta leave in an hour or so and start putting up tarps and our campsite. Bringing my banjo! :D

No big plans here. I'll be getting myself ready for the end of the school year:), relaxing on the couch, mowing the lawn and participating in one or two centuries.

We're packing up for the Horsey Hundred in beautiful central Kentucky. Shooting for the century tomorrow and 70 on Sunday. Then SilverSon wants to see Indiana Jones 4, so I'll look forward to doing that.
Makbike, sorry we won't see you at the Horsey...if something changes, give us a call.

Weekend on two wheels: cycling tomorrow, probably a 40-45-mile route, motorcycle on Sunday, then both on Monday--not at the same time, though.:D Hope the weather cooperates!

Waaaa. I am supposed to be doing a practice self-supported bike tour up to Copper Harbor (maybe 40 miles away). My first ever, so this is to be the shake-down event. However, I'm sick, and this morning my lungs feel like they are about 1/3 full of crud. Again I say WAAAAAAAAA! If I don't feel better than this, I'll never make it. We'll see - I'm proceeding as though it's going to happen, because if I'm not ready tomorrow but I'm feeling better, I'll kick myself. Not sure about the whole sleeping on the ground in 40-ish nighttime temps, though. Fortunately, I had planned to take a vacation day today, to get ready. Maybe by the time I finish my tea and take a shower things will be better. Or maybe I'll just ride up in the car with DH, who doesn't have a touring bike (yet), hang out with our friends, and come home.
Sounds like you guys have some great plans (well, sorry Veronica - that doesn't sound like extreme fun, but it does remind me of all my Memorial Day weekends growing up on a farm :) ).
Have a great time, everybody! Watch yourself, Zen - I hear he's trouble.

Hopefully I will get a ride in on all three days. Quiet weekend with just hubby and our daughter, who goes to college locally. Our son is away at college and will not be coming home for the three day weekend. Gas too expensive for his poor college pockets. Joe and I said we would pay but he is doing things with friends.
Maybe go to the movies and see the new Indiana Jones movie or Narnia or both!
At school I am working out a schedule to close down the library for summer break. Booke inventory, data backup, student fines, etc. Last day of school is June 18th for students. I want all books returned by June 2nd. I have the end of year dance on the 13th to use as leverage to get those books in or no dance ticket. Aaaahhh middle school kids! Gotta love em!

Saturday we are going to ride up the Blue Ridge Parkway (there was a rock slide so the section we are riding is closed to traffic...wooohoooo). Sunday we will be going to a local haunt to check out a Kids trail which I heard has a bunch of obstacles to practice mtbike skills...Someday I will be leading a skill clinic for the club members of the team I am on...it will be a very basic casual clinic I am hoping will lead into more someday!
Monday we work...I work alot of holidays like this and take other days off that aren't so crowded out there on the road! Hubby works for a hospital...no holidays for him (he has great time off benefits tho!!!) it all works well for us!

Holiday weekend by the numbers:
3 days of biking
2 road rides
1 mountain bike ride.
One picky-nicky with friends.
And hopefully, my friend Terry will soon be out of ICU so we can go visit him.

We are having a BBQ on Monday. The other 2 days I will be riding, at least one of the days we will be with friends. We'll be going out to dinner with them, too. I am hoping that Monday, before the BBQ I can take my mountain bike out for the first time this year.
Next Wednesday my students are putting on a production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream." I can't wait for it to be over... Our last day is June 17th and then I become a student again (well, my classes don't start until the end of August).

I'm kicking off the weekend by taking my pooch for a 4-mile hike later today up on the Blue Ridge Parkway on a jeep road that is lined wall-to-wall with huge rhododendrons---all of which should be in glorious bloom.
Tomorrow, a 42-mile bike ride for Habitat for Humanity, starting off with IFJane and some of her buddies. I'll have to take it easy 'cause my IT band on the right side is fussing at me something fierce today.
Sunday and Monday: gardening, yay!!! Punctuated by dinner Sunday night with some dear friends who will be in town. Haven't seen them in about two years.......
Oh, and LOTS of stretching to counter the hiking, biking and gardening.....:)

Hmm... I'm a bit jealous here. Being an ER worker, (doggie style), my schedule is based on weekends and holidays. It seems good till I hear everyone talk about 3-day weekends!
I'll be working Friday night and Saturday night. Hopefully a ride and/or run Saturday before heading into work, sleep and then some workout on Sunday and dinner with friends that night.
Monday -- I"M FREE.... to finally plant those flowers and vegetables that have been threatening to die in their pots! Plus I'd like to go and see about a new commuter bike!
Have a good one everyone, and keep your pets safe so I'm not busy!
Jes
Party tomorrow, first time a lot of my friends are seeing my "new" place (moved there in September). Sunday, my brother, cousin, and I are going for a ride to get her prepared for the MS50 on June 1. She's never done a 50 (probably never done 25), so we need to get her on the road. That's followed with the family Memorial Day gathering, and I'd like to take my cousin riding again Monday, but we'll see if it fits in her schedule:rolleyes:

I had hoped to be putting as many miles as possible on a new bike - but since it isn't finished yet I will be putting as many miles as possible on my old bike. Non-biking time will be spent walking the dog and in the pool. And I can almost smell the portobello burgers on the grill now. Unfortunately, DH and I now live 500 miles aways from our extended family. Memorial Day weekend was always a family time "back home". We'll miss having family around - but biking, walking, swimming and watching baseball ain't so bad.
Lets be sure we all take a few minutes to remember why we recognize Memorial Day. Have a great holiday.

The weather looks to be nice in these parts, so Saturday it's a 40 mile ride, Sunday running a half-marathon, and then Monday riding again - length and intensity depending on how my legs are feeling on Sunday. I've been running a lot lately and have really missed riding my bike, so I'm looking forward to riding much more these coming weeks than I have been
:)

Well I was planning to clean my bike tonight but now it looks like I'm going to the movies with some friends. Maybe there will still be time to take care of the bike afterwards.
Tomorrow will start with a trip to the LBS to get my sit bones measured. Depending on what saddles they have in stock, maybe I'll buy one. Then I'm off for a 45-50 mile training ride. After that I will probably take a nice nap.
Sunday I think I'm going to Rolling Thunder on the National Mall. Monday I'm hoping for a short bike ride. Maybe I will head back into DC for the parade.

HOpefully lots of riding. HOping for good things for you, DeeDolce!!
Club is doing a "wind aided ride" Saturday - driving out to INdiana and riding back - but I'll be leading my Saunter. Sunday, I dunno... Monday - "around c u" ride.
It's pretty rainy now.
Skierchickie... take it *really* easy right now - this crud seems to either go away right away... or hang around *forever* and be pretty nasty. Hope you're in the first group! Are you less congested in the head than you expect? (Thats eems to be the thing around here... nasal passages and what have you are pretty clear but entirely *too* productive in the cough category! Pardon the TMI...)

No plans so far. I started the day by riding to the post office. I dropped off some Bicycling magazines I'd been saving to send MSG Hall who as far as I know is still serving.
On the way back I took a detour to do a quiet route I sometimes do .... nope, still under construction so headed home.
Today I'll run a couple house errands and have sushi for dinner with a friend.

Saturday in-laws are coming to go to a big annual craft fair and to help us christen our new BBQ grill.
Sunday hiking with the wee ones
Monday - parade, and then leaving the kids with my parents so that DH and I can actually ride TOGETHER!!!! We have a nice 35 mile loop through rolling farmlands planned. I can almost feel the stress melting away already . . .

That's a great loop...enjoy!
I'm doing a 35 mile ride with a group Sat. (getting ready for my first 50-miler next weekend). Sunday is a wedding in Mass. (which gets me out of working at graduation!), and possibly a mtb ride Monday, depending on when we get home. Looks like nice weather, too.

Geonz: Yep! That's the one! Congested, but mostly in my chest. Although right now my head is all plugged up and hurts, too. Constant tickle/scratch in my throat, hurts in my chest when I give in to it and cough. Coughing up stuff. I've pretty much come to the conclusion that 40 miles on a loaded bike, followed by sleeping in a tent would be a big mistake. :( Just have to figure out tomorrow whether I feel well enough to drive up and stay in a motel, or just stay home all weekend. Hanging around a campfire doesn't sound like that much fun right now. Unfortunately, DH's fun is affected by this, too.
The wind aided ride sounds fun - last weekend we did 45 miles, the first half into a 20-ish gusting into the mid-30s wind, but a tailwind all the way back. Yee haa!

Tomorrow I'll be packing and getting organized for a trip to the coast Sunday to hang out on our sailboat for a few days, do projects, and chill (have to pull the transmission cable to replace it, so no actual boating is planned, unfortunately). We are taking our 16-week old Boston Terrier puppy, Paisley, down to the boat with us for the first time, so hopefully she will do well. We're not coming home until Thurs. or Friday, depending on weather. I'm taking all week off work and can't wait!
Oh, and Sunday is DH and my 23rd anniversary. :)
Have a good weekend, all!

Lets see, Saturday - going to Home Depot to get some flowers and black paint, going to the pool store to get chlorine for the pool, Meijers to pick up a few groceries. Plant the flowers, get the leaves off the pool cover, maybe paint the utility trailer. Sunday - go for a bike ride, cook out. Monday - try riding my bike route for commuting to work, cook out.

We're going to try and reunite our little riding group and ride in the morning. Later in the morning I'll meet with a the gals who want to try some light mountain biking. Monday we're going to grill and have my parents over for lunch.

Maybe riding horseback in the Memorial Day parade here... Old West Days. Weather is predictably cruddy... aka Cold Wet Days. Dressed as a "Saddle tramp." Floofy black-and-pink dress, patterned tights, cowgirl boots, bolero sweater, at least two feather boas, cowgirl hat and bright lipstick. Woo hoo!
Maybe a bicycle ride if I can handle it after all that excitement.
Work Sunday and Monday. :-( But at least I get a holiday comp day to use for some other festive occasion, like a bike trip.
