I need advice on caps which can be worn under a helmet to offer maximum sun protection. I need a broad peak for my face and a flap to protect my neck while touring. Having had my nose removed from bridge to tip (and rebuilt by a plastic surgeon, I hasten to add, albeit with unpretty skin graft!) due to skin cancer, I am mindful of having my face fully protected when riding without totally sacrificing the excellent ventilation provided by my helmet. I also don't want to seriously compromise my peripheral vision and hearing.

I thought I had found the ideal solution with this cap from Columbia:

.... however when i do up the chin strap on my helmet the side flaps on the cap are pulled tight over my ears reducing my hearing to unacceptable levels when riding in traffic.

Can anyone suggest an alternative solution, or should I cut slits (buttonhole stitched to prevent fraying) in the cap so the helmet straps go through the cap above my ears??? I don't care about looking like a total dork ... I'm happy to be alive! :)

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks
Maureen

Have you seen the "visor buff"? I know several people in this forum swear by buffs. I haven't tried them, but they seem very versatile:

There are some pictures of this buff with a flap and even covering most of the head in Amazon:

Here is a demo video of how to use it: http://www.buffwear.co.uk/pages/technical/ways-to-wear.php

How about this one: http://www.headsweats.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=43&idproduct=127

I like the fact that it's coolmax, not cotton. I don't know how well it would fit under a helmet, though. You could call and ask.
