View Full Version : In reality, I'm a bum

Whenever my partner is out of town, I turn into a bum.
I stop straightening up the place*, I live off my dirty-but-wearable pile, I don't eat right or I eat takeout, the only thing that saves me is I probably actually train more.
So tonight I found another blessing of solitary life: cold chinese food. The takeout downstairs makes huge servings - so last night I split one in half for tonight. I ate it cold. Kong Po. It's pretty good cold.;)
*which makes for a stressful night-before-he-comes-home

I'm just glad someone else is speaking out about the joys of cold leftover Chinese food. :D

Ya know I detested a former roommate for eating pizza cold.

I slept in until 10:30 this morning. Add me to the bum list. :o
DH eats cold stuff all the time. I don't much like anything that way....except Gelato! haha
Back when he worked swing shift, I got loads done when he was at work in the evenings, and we lazed around together when he worked days. Now we're either out training, working on renos, walking dogs, taking care of the yard, cooking, or being complete bums on the couch with the laptops and TV....but we do almost all of it together. Yes, cleaning is not on that list. It doesn't happen all that often..... :p

I live alone, so I'm a full-time bum. :D I have a closet that hadn't been cleaned out in seven years...I finally cleaned it out last weekend 'cause that's where the a/c unit is, and it needed servicing. :p

Oh rabbit you sound just like me! I HATE being home alone! I've started to get better about what I eat though - fewer frozen dinners, more salads.

I don't do anything different when my husband is away... I like my "structure."
But cold Chinese food is one of the 4 Jewish food groups.

To paraphrase Jane Austen, that is a truth universally acknowledged!
It sounds like Alpinerabbit is having a fine time. No matter how honest, relaxed and close your spousal/mate/whatever relations are, for some of us, there's just something about having the house to yourself. I think a lot of people are a LITTLE different in behavior when no one's around.

I agree with SalsaBike, when DH is out looking for new equipment for the business, I usually get a day or 2 by myself..called relaxation! I eat cold cereals for all my meals, stay in my jammies if I can, watch the tv as I finally have control of the remote.. i'm total slob-just don't tell my secret!!

Lee was away one Thanksgiving, and my Thanksgiving dinner that year consisted of a large bag of Sour Cream & Onion potato chips and a bottle of chardonnay.

One of the reasons I have a cleaning woman is so that once a week I'm forced to straighten up the clutter. Otherwise, my house would be a nightmare!

I love that. Laughed LOUDLY.

Oh, how I miss that!! I wonder if I finally got my taxes done for the past two years, if I could use the refund to buy my RRSPs so that some of my new raise could go to a cleaning lady instead of all towards retirement.....hmmmmm....now *that* is motivation to get the taxes done !!
Thank you! :D
Hugs and butterflies,

I live on cold cereal and Pink Lady apples. Even though I never get a pizza just for me I will eat cold pizza.
Tonights dinner- an apple and 4 ounces of swiss cheese :D

I love this thread - see myself everywhere. When DH is out of town I often end up at the book store, then home eating takeout spaghetti & reading my new book...he doesn't like spaghetti and I love love love that tomato/salt/garlic/olive oil taste. Yum!

I'm just messier .. longer..when he's not around. He is actually abit of a neat freak. ..which makes him more inclined to do cleaning more frequently. It probably all stems from his lifelong allergies to mold, dust, etc.
Otherwise my personal indulgences / junk desires, are no different when he's around. :D

Uh... I'm the neat freak in the family, my partner's a mild slob. So when she's away I tidy up. Sick, I know. Cleaning the house makes me feel good. And no, I'm not coming over to your house! :D
Foodwise, anything that goes with a red sauce & garlic. I like a little pasta with my red sauce. I'm always so disappointed when they smear on a little sauce and think they're done. Nuh uh! Swimming in it, please.

Popcorn makes a perfectly suitable dinner.
What is cleaning? I think I may have done this once, a very long time ago.

So, 3.5 rooms straightened, trash out, recycle paper out, dishwasher half full&smelly (too much detail, you did not want to know that) - I'm having myself a beer.
Let him come home Saturday. I'm ready.
yeah cleaning, I've outsourced that. but this monday was a holiday so she did not come.

Now, how many self-proclaiming bums are proclaiming their untidiness... but it's compared to neatness?
I have just moved back into my house and it occurred to me that right now ... it's clean enough to have other people come in!! (Well, except that the first thing I did was bring three bikes into the living room BECAUSE I COULD.)

I need a husband just so there is someone here all the time that will keep me from being the slob I am! I'm fine if others are living here, but if left to my own company, I'm a slob!! If I can ever get it cleaned enough to feel OK with bringing in a house cleaner, that's what I am aiming to do. :) And I hate to cook for just one, no one to tell me how wonderful I am. ha ha ha

I live off my dirty-but-wearable pile,
It's funny to me because I do the same damn thing.
See, now, the rare occasion that he goes away is when I turn tidy! Why? Cuz he's a morning person, I'm a night person, and when he's gone, I can do things around here without keeping him up -- which, of course, would make him pretty cranky. So I'm much more of a slacker when he's home!
