Hey all...who was out there pedaling the pavement to celebrate mother's day??? And, how did you do!

I did two crits this weekend. Both were "master's" crits (I'm old enough this year to do the 30+ races!). I had a pretty good race Saturday against some rockin' ladies from Verducci (including one Olympic hopeful) and ended up 5th in my category.

Today's race was even better. A quick crit on a course made specifically for cycling (completely non-techincal - with sweeping turns and one small climb). I ended up 4th overall and 3rd in my category...1st and 2nd going to the ladies who took 1st in the 45+ and 2nd in the 30+ on Saturday. It was fun to race them two times in one weekend to test out different strategies of racing!

How about everyone else?

NJBikeGal:

Congrats on doing 2 crits in one weekend. Boggles my mind. And I've never done one!

I think that is a great accomplishement and you improved your overall standing, which is totally fantastic!

Good job on your 5th and 3rd, NJGal! Way to get it done!

Today I'm kickin' back watching the Giro on Vs. for Mom's Day, but yesterday I did the East Bay Cyclists (EBC) Criterium in Pleasanton, CA. Great course, great pavement, sewer grates were all rideable....but there were two crashes in my Cat (W4).

The best explanation for the crashes is that the course was too easy on the tailwind side, which allowed everyone to bunch up and thus increased the chances of wheels overlapping - which I'm sure was the reason for both crashes. I was affected in the first crash, had a gal basically bounce off me on her way down (my pinkey finger took the brunt), but held it upright and caught up with the pack, recovered, and ended up 7th (field was 36 Cat 4's and about 9 Cat 3's, picked separately).

I considered doing a road race w/two significant hills today, but opted to just relax....;)

Good luck and fast wings to all racing....

Nice racing, NJBikeGal!

I did two this weekend two - a hilly road race yesterday (48 miles in a P/1/2/3 race). Had a VERY good day on the bike, finishing 6th of 21 starters .

Today, my third Sport Women's MTB race (3 muddy, rocky rooty 5 mile laps). Finished 3rd overall, but 1st in my age category - a terrific 40th bday present to myself (and I got beat byt 2 20 somethings...). Will post more later - wicked tired right now.

We traditionally don't have any races scheduled on Mother's day here, so no race today, but we had a hilly 60 mile road race yesterday. 8th in the cat 3 field for me. It was pretty fun - combined 1,2,3 race, but scored separately because it was part of a cat 3 series. It was the first race that I've been in where I've seen solid tactics by 4 teams, very cool that there were enough riders and enough experience there to have everyone working like that. Often there aren't enough women from any one team to see more than one or two teams really having it together.

Great job out there Sarah!!!

That was a fun course...can't wait to do it again in August. :)

I did a local crit series(not part of the florida points series) and raced with the 45+ men. There is no women's race at this series, all women race either 45+ men or within their cat. It was a hard race! I was one of 3 women, the other two being pros. It was fun and fast! I forgot to check my average speed until part way into my cool down, but at that point it said 22.3mph so before the cooldown I am assuming it was 24 or 25. I was told by someone else that they averaged 25.something for the 45minutes +3.
I was really happy to finish! This is the first race with the men that I have finished and a few more and I will be able to cat up to a 3!!
Here is a picture from the crit :-)

Yup

:D

I got to do a time trial, and although it wasn't as good-a-performance as I hoped for, it was still a TT and it was a beautiful perfect morning and a great gift to myself.

I just posted about it in this forum under ECNI Champs 2008.

Yeah, that is me behind some big but strong guy! Hehe, not sure where in the crit that was taken, but according to the picture timeline it is towards the later half.

It was a good ride, and I did tons better then I thought I would! I was so nervous to race with the 45+ men, they are strong!! This race series is great because there are 4 or 5 races per series, with 3 back to back series. So I have 6 or 7 more to go for the summer and if I can continue to race well I will be able to get my upgrade without actually traveling around the state to race with the cat 4 women. Yippie!!!

I also found a picture of the start, if you look close enough I can be found! The picture is probably the 2nd half of the field, I started out in the front but had problems getting clipped in and had to sprint to catch back on!! ahh my worst nightmare, let me tell you! Didn't get clipped in until we were going into the 1st turn. oh well:-)

Sounds like everyone had a good weekend for mothers day! Time trials, crits, road races, and MTB races galore:-) oh my!!
