Hi, don't know if this is best place to ask this....I rec'd a private message. How do I find out more info on who this is from. It was not, from what I can tell, a dissussion thread. And gave little if no info. I am sure it is save here at TE, but just being "weird" about this. I did the member list and could not find this person. I do know someone by this name...but it would be really strange if it was from them!
Thanks!

I also received an odd message on Monday early early in the morning. I don't know the person who sent it to me and it has no cycling related information in it.

To be deliberately vague, was it regarding someone I posted about and claims to be his sister?

If so, it's real. If not, I don't know.

I got one too...from jessie2 it just said Hi, I'm new too. How are you?

I thought it was a bit strange that there was no further conversation....so I checked the member list too...to see where else 'jessie2' has posted to see if it's truely legit....and there was 'no such member'!

there was a link in the 'signature section' that went to a website so I just assumed it was some sort of spam to get me to click into their website.

Something like that is getting to be a common form of spam now. I admin a travel forum and that's one thing we're really struggling with there. Normal spam is easy to delete but PM spam is much harder to deal with.

That's right....it did have a Albert Einstein quote didn't it!

hmmmm....did it have any other salutation to you? I still think it was weird that it was somewhat close for me (being new here too comment)

Yep, same here! It was kinda spooky if you ask me.

Sounds suspicious. Do not respond.

That's really bizzare, I didn't get one, I feel left out...:p

Like BSG says, don't respond, don't click on any links.

OK. That doesn't sound like what I'm talking about.

I got a bizarre PM with an Albert Einstein quote as well, complete with several web links. Being a brand newbie here and knowing no one, and with nothing personal or cycling-related in the message, I assumed it was some weird kind of spam.

I never open anything I don't know where it was from. No matter what!

Well, yes, it was that Jessie2....all the same things you all said was in the email and could not find them as a member.....Glad I posted this and did not respond. I was feeling a bit foolish and thought "that person" would see my thread and get mad. But it just didnt' feel right. Thanks for all your replies!

Seems I have a vague recollection of this same thing happening last year. A mystery guest sending spam-ish PM's to dozens of TE members with a vague mystery message masquerading as a personal message.

Me three, it was creepy so I deleted it.

I received the same "private message". It's not spooky or bizarre . . it's just SPAM and the messages are deliberately written to entice you to open the message or go to their link. My policy is that I never ever open any message if I don't know the e-mail address . . never.

Just delete the message and don't respond.

If you receive PM spam, please let me (send PM to "administrator") know so we can delete the spammer's account and keep them from sending more PM spam.

The reason "jessie2" was showing up for some of you as an unknown user is that the account for that user had already been deleted by the time you read the PM.

Unfortunately, the VB software lacks an easy way to delete all PMs sent by a user, so it is difficult to go back and clean up the spammer's mess.

Thanks,
Jeff

Same person send PMs on another forum I belong to, even with the same user name too. Might be going around I guess.
