Would I have to get on a scale?? :p

I think I'd be really depressed finding out how much I've gained this last year! but maybe it would be the opposite effect and make me realize how much I need this...and it would be a motivator......hmmmmm.....

ok....I'm IN!!!!

I will be away from the 'puter until Monday..so I'll weigh myself tomorrow but won't be able to send you my starting weight until Monday...will that be oK? :)

Count me in, again. I'm under even more stress, at work, so I don't know how this will work out. I need to get more serious about this and stop with all the chocolate. It's been slow, but I have lost a little weght since this all started.

I'm in. Hopefully seeing my weight increase will make me want to decrease it (?). Yeah! This will also force me to go to the gym on Fridays, sounds good. :)

I've fallen off the wagon on all of the last two challenges I was in. But now that I'm done with school I have no excuse. And, I tried on my summer clothes last week and they were all too small! Extra motivation.

I'll be weighing in tomorrow morning.

GLC1968

Jes - It's pretty easy, but kind of a pain. I made the chart in excel. Then I select the cells I want and copy them into 'paint'. Then I select the area I want in paint and save it as a .jpg. This allows me to upload it to our server (but any photo sharing site would work) so that I can add it here as a photo.

I figured this out once on another board when I wanted to post a fancy training plan I'd put togther. Every time I tried to go from excel to the internet, it got all messed up. Once it's in a 'photo' it doesn't change when I post it. :D

i'm in too. this is perfect timing. i'm headed to my best friend's wedding in st. croix at the end of june and will basically spend the whole week in a bathing suit. i don't need to lose a ton of weight- i'm recovering from ACL surgery and actually probably just need to replace a bit of recently gained flab with muscle mass- but this will be a good motivator to hit the gym, get fit and track my progress with you all. i'll shoot my starting weight over later today.

I'm a total newbie to these forums, but was hoping maybe I could crash this party? I've been losing and gaining the same 5-10 pounds for over a year now, and really need to start making some solid downward progress. I'm at the low point, thankfully, of that 5-10 pound range I seem to be stuck in, but I really need to break through the bottom of this plateau and lose another 15 pounds or so without letting myself yo-yo back up again.

my weight this morning = 166

Anybody on a plateau? Been eating right, riding your bike, maybe other exercise and yet stuck :( at a certain weight?

jesvetmed
05-04-2008, 12:54 PM
TCTREK>.. yep. I've lost 12-13 and plateau'd there. I haven't been SUPER crazy about dieting by any means, but the workouts have been good and consistent. I feel pretty good about being here but would like to move on now! I know it takes your body some adjustment time, but enough already! Guess I have to be more strict with the diet to jump in the right direction. That is my goal for the next couple of weeks and we'll see what happens! :(

cyclingmama
05-04-2008, 07:11 PM
TC Trek - I am the queen of the plateau. I have been working out 5 days a week and counting Weight Watchers points, and every freaking ounce is a struggle. I seem to lose in little spurts, and can't make any sense of it. From mid-March to mid-April, I gained 4 weeks in a row despite frequent good workouts and staying within my points, then lost all of it in a single week (a nearly 4-pound loss), then the last two weeks have been negligible losses, 0.6and 0.8. All I can do is to just keep working out and making healthy food choices, focus on non-scale victories like changes in the way my clothes fit or how solid my thighs are getting :D, and hope the scale will catch up sooner or later. Hang in there!

kjay
05-04-2008, 07:42 PM
Oh, yes, indeed! I've been on the same plateau for ten years, and I am not exaggerating. It's like some kind of curse.

195.5 for me on Friday :(

I made much better eating choices over the weekend, but still ate the same quantity....which is my biggest problem!!

That and finding time to cook good stuff....we seem to always be so busy...or it's 'too hot' or 'too late' so we go grab fast food....that has to be my first thing to change!!

UGH - 146.8

A gain of 2 pounds in one week.

So, listen to this sob story...

I am menopausal - haven't had a period in almost 2 years. On Monday, I start feeling lousy - bloated, really sluggish, heavy, my fingers start swelling - on Tuesday morning, I wake up and I am bleeding.

What's up with that?

I don't even have any pads in the house - I had to rummage through my teenage daughter's bathroom to find something.

So I have been bleeding all week - a dirty, red-brown gross colored blood. Not a lot of it - just enough to be really annoying.

And I weigh 146.8!

Just shoot me now...

Don't you just love hormones?

Lynette

P.S. Oh - and you can put me down for a "challenge goal" weight of 140.

Mr. SR500
05-09-2008, 05:14 AM
Can I join? I've been working hard to drop from my post-holiday high.

192.4 lbs this morning.

Maybe you guys can kick my butt into dropping another 12 lbs.

My overall goal is 180, but I don't know if I can do that in 7 week. So short term goal would be 185.

Possegal
05-09-2008, 06:04 AM
I'd like to join too. I've had a very bad health time since late January. Now that my asthma is under control, and the cardiologist gave me the OK to work out (long story I won't bore you all with), I need to get myself in gear as naturally I gained weight over these last few months! Starting weight is 185 and I'd like to try and lose 8 lbs by the end of June. Hopefully more, but I'm trying to not set a goal that ends up depressing me, you know?

imdeanna
05-09-2008, 08:12 AM
I'm still at 195.5 this morning..... I'm not too bummed tho....I did GREAT in the beginning of the week..but then had an anniversary dinner at a Italian restaurant.....AND ordered desert.....so the last 2 days' I haven't done so well.....so I guess better than gaining! :)

Here's hoping for a better week!!!

181.

Not happy, but okay with it. I ate out every day this week. And I really, truly enjoyed my buttered chicken and nan :-) . . . back to the grind!

I'm having 25 people over for Mother's Day, I'm scanning 101cookbooks.com for some healthy recipes that would be good at a cookout and be yummy enough to keep me away from the bbq and potato salads.

Down roughly 2.5 pounds this week! (my scale only measures to the half pound, not tenths, which is annoying) I was careful with my food intake and managed 5 good workouts, so I am pleased. :)

My start was 197.
My week weigh in on May 9th was 194.5.

I'm trying something totally different for me, counting Weight Watcher points. Anyone else doing this? I just got someone to get me the calculator, log and the books. I don't know how to do the points back for exercise, I just take 1/3rd of what I burned off and eat that back. Seems to work.

My 8 week goal is 2 lbs a week so it should be 181.

I expect the scale not to move this week because Aunt Flo (TTOM) is showing up. Sigh.

Hope everyone is kickin it. Thanks for lettin me in! Karin

I work out at least 1 hour a day, I do weight training 3-4 days a week. Can someone help me out please? WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?????????? And trust me, I'm not building muscles or getting leaner. My jeans are definitely getting smaller. I do have hypothyroidism, so I know it's harder to lose weight, but shouldn't I be making some kind of progress instead of moving up the scale?

No change for me - but that's OK. My goal is to maintain for one more week (through a federal trial), and then focus on trying to lose. Not going up with trial prep is a victory in and of itself.

Amazingly I was down a lb to 182. This was a very tough week with a bit of stress eating. So I am surprised. But I did make one big change this week, I had fallen into the habit of going to work on an empty stomach and then buying high fat/calorie breakfasts at the work cafeteria. I've got a list of changes I want to make and I know I can't or shouldn't do them all at once. So that one change is an accomplishment. Now if I could do something about this stressful life. :)

I'm in at 190.8 lbs this morning.

Biggest change I've made since starting a couple months ago was to stop eating before bed. Now I try not to eat at least 3 hrs before bed. Ok to drink water, and occasionally need a little recovery food after a late ride, but overall I think it's made the biggest difference.

I've slowed my weight loss and the weather continues to be crummy for regular riding. I hope as soon as I can get back to consistent miles, I'll shed some more wight.

Thanks for the challenge, it kept me from getting a shake last night with the kids. I would normally, but it was late last evening. I try not to limit foods I like, just watch the portions and time of day.

Thanks again.

I gained 2.5 lbs!!! So i'm at 152.5 right now.

I have to admit, I did eat like a pig this week. Plus i'm finding it really hard to cook in this temporary living situation, because my bf's family is always occupying the kitchen and eating MY GROCERIES!!

Oh well, a new week, a new chance to start eating healthy again!

CA - What kind of law do you practice? I'm a lawyer, too -- commercial lit. I agree, managing NOT to gain weight during trial prep is a huge success.

limewave - have you recently increased your activity levels? every time I bump up my activity I have several weeks of gains in a row and then start losing. Are you drinking enough water and getting enough fruits and veggies? My only other thought for you is whether you are eating enough to support the amount of exercise you are doing. I know how frustrating it is, I have been exactly where you are. Just hang in there and keep doing what you are doing, and you will see results.

I do have hypothyroidism, so I know it's harder to lose weight, but shouldn't I be making some kind of progress instead of moving up the scale?

limewave: I also have hypothyroidism and believe me, I feel your pain. I had not had a stable TSH for the past 5 years. I ditched doctor after doctor for treating my lab results instead of treating my body. It's very important that you find a GREAT endocrinologist that will listen to your story and set you on the right path to wellness. Just because your TSH may show within normal levels does not mean that you are well... every person is different.

I found my new endocrinologist 6 months ago. He took me off of a blood pressure medicine that I was on that he thought was contributing to making me listless and tired. Immediately, my energy level came up!! He adjusts my thyroid meds every six weeks by very small increments to keep my TSH where it appears to be optimum for me. He also noted that I have had high Glucose levels on my blood work for years, even though my previous doctor never mentioned it to me. I now take a med to control my Glucose levels as well. If I lose 5 more pounds he is going to take me off of a cholesterol medicine that I have been taking for 10 years!

For the past 10 years I had gained 5 pounds a year even though I have always eaten healthy, managed calorie intake and did some sort of exercise.
I had a personal trainer for 1 year and did not lose a single pound!! Yet,
in just 6 months of working with my new doctor, eating well, riding my bike and taking spin classes, I have lost 23 pounds. It has been coming off slowly but surely. I wish I had a faster/better metabolism, but I'm working with the hand I was dealt.

A good endocrinologist can really make a difference, and don't settle for a doctor that won't talk to you about your body, your nutrition, your energy levels... they can't just treat our lab results. If your metabolism isn't right, the best you will ever be able to do is to keep from gaining.

Hi Everyone,

I have decided to kick it up notch. I am ready to get really serious again about my eating and exercise. I'm making a pledge to only put completely healthy items into my mouth until the end of this challenge and to work even harder during my exercise. I have discussed this with my personal trainer and he has agreed to show "no mercy" during our wokouts. I am dedicated to doing this.

I took out a pair of size 8 jeans from my drawer last week and I could not zip them up, I couldn't even button them. By the end of this challenge, I will be able to not only zip them, but wear them comfortably.

I can do this, I will do this!

I have been down as low as 117.5 and as high as 121. I have no idea what my correct weight is right now. BUT, I did finally get the Tanita scale and my body fat APPEARS to be around 23-24%. It's highest in the morning when I'm dehydrated and lowest in the mid-afternoon. I'm supposed to weigh myself just before dinner for the most accurate result. At that time, I'm usually around 119.5 lbs and 23% body fat. In the morning, I weigh more but my BF is 26%.

But the good news is that I went for a run in my shorts and sports bra on Saturday. That is the first time in 25 years I've had my tummy exposed to the public. It's not perfect but it looks good enough when I'm standing up so get away with it. (I get super hot when I'm running...). I hope someday to be able to sit down in public with my tummy exposed and not have the 3 rolls...

I wish she would hurry up and get it over with but ohhhhhnooooo she loves to drag it out with PMS that makes Manson look SANE!!!!

Rode a very good mtb ride yesterday. It made me feel like a person again. I burned it good for 3 hours. 1800 calories or so departed. Adios. I snuck a peak at the scale. I'm back to 193 but when aunt flo comes there is usually a good drop. If it wasn't for the PMSing and 'symptoms' I would think it wasn't showing. Anyone else having this problem? Hey Kelowna,

I used to use my Tanita until I learned how to use fat calipers for my training class. I use the ones you can use on yourself, which are more accurate than the Tanitas. Tanitas vary on a bunch of different factors like time of day, did you just eat/drink, exercise, etc. The fat pinchers are pretty repeatable too. I actually bought the pair that I use on myself through Amazon, they are called Fat Track Gold and come with a Myotape which is really nice too.
You can't technically take self measurements with 'regular' fat calipers, and these have the correct formulas and they are digital so how can you beat 'dat!

KG, you shouldn't worry -- you've been in that two to three pound range for as long as I can remember, and the rest of the planet would LOVE to be stable like that! Not having to deal with a "fat wardrobe" and a "skinny wardrobe" cuz it's just always the same....

I know you say you'd like to be a few pounds lighter, but perhaps at your current age, your body just needs these few pounds! (My bariatrician says I can't really plan to weigh what I did in high school anymore)

I'm not in on the challenge this time, but I'm following the challenge and rooting for you guys!

Today, when we got home from our ride, I asked DH a question: have I lost enough of my butt yet that you can see that there's some muscles in there when I'm riding? He says that's one of those questions that guys can't answer. "If a woman asks any questions about her butt, just don't go there!" Apparently, guys have decided that there's just no way they can not get in trouble -- if they're honest, we don't like it, and if they're more diplomatic about it, they get yelled at for lying to us??

I know. Sounds disgusting. But actually quite tasty. Now the question is ... how much is this gonna weigh  ? Oh well. 2 more days til weigh-in. If any of you have been reading my posts, you know I've been having a really difficult time with my weight lately. That's because I promised myself I would never go back to where I was before. I used to weigh over 300lbs. I worked really hard to lose almost half of that weight.

I guess it's no surprise that 7 years later--after a laparatomy, billateral bunionectomy, marriage, giving birth, and moving--that I have gained 15-20lbs. Some of those old feelings I used to have are coming back. I've been digging through some of my stuff from that time when I initially made the decision to change my lifestyle and to lose weight. I posted a before an after picture on my blog (http://momrunningon.blogspot.com) if anyone wants to check it out.

Going through the journals and pictures are reminding how much I have accomplished and that I really am a different person. I won't be going back to that place I was in before, even if I put on a few pounds . . .

Well still hanging in at 149. Getting a little frustrated. I eat fairly well and exercise daily. I ride my bike 20-30 miles M-F, run or hike on the weekends. My measurements are getting bigger too, even at my waist. What is up with that. Here is a sample of what I typically eat, any suggestions to revamp it would be great.

I have Breakfast on my way to work in the car at 5am

B: Zone Bar or Fiber One bar or Cereal without the milk

S: Almonds

L: Usually PBJ with preztles and carrots or left over chicken

S: Fruit or beef jerky or pretzles

D: Some form of meat with either rice or noodles and raw veggie

Thanks and have a great weekend!!

169.6 for me this week. At least it's in the right direction. I've been good this week, and I'm going to continue to be good, regardless of the outcome. I've learned something lately that may explain why I picked up biking, ramped my miles, and yet still managed to gain almost 30 lbs in the process. But even if I have a reason for the weight gain, it doesn't change the fact that I gained it and I am now responsible for losing it. So I'm going to keep on keeping on!

Limewave - impressive before and afters! That's so awesome that you have your journal to remember that journey. I've found lots of inspiration from my own words from the last time I lost a bunch of weight and kept a journal, too.

Great job everyone who lost this week (so far) - and for those who didn't, just keep at it. I am! :p

It seems to me that you are not eating enough (especially if you are very active). Have some more protein for breakfast in the form of eggs or turkey bacon. Forget those bars...they are usually high in sugar and you end up feeling hungry again. Then for lunch, try to add some variety. Maybe a salad one day, a sandwich the next. Remember, if you don't eat enough, your body will think it is starving so it will overcompensate and start storing everything you eat and hang on to every little piece of fat.

Darn! The measly pound I took off last week was back on again this morning. Sigh. And tomorrow is a neighbor's 60th birthday party. And then Tuesday and Wednesday I have meetings in Oslo -- as in hotel breakfasts, restaurant dinners. This is gonna be a tough week. Double sigh. Still ... thanks for the help, everybody. Maybe with a nudge or two from being on the list I'll manage. Hotel breakfast: Eat the same as I would at home! Don't let the buffet tempt me. Restaurant dinner: A nice salad with vinaigrette dressing can be filling and tasty. And birthday party: Well, it's the weekend. I can put in a couple of long rides or hikes to compensate.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate your support. Everything is just clicking this time. It just feels right.

You know, I wish I knew what it was when you decide to eat healthy and exercise for the 100th time, and then, for some reason, you stick with it for once.

Do you know how many times I have said that I am determined to lose weight? And then it ended up just being talk - I really wasn't that determined after all. It was just too hard!

But this time, it just felt different - I really am doing it - I really am determined. So what makes it different this time? I don't have a clue.

Not that I am complaining - I am thrilled that the weight is actually starting to come off.

So, has this also happened to you - you say you want to eat healthier, exercise more, etc but you really don't do it? And then all of the sudden, you just say, "No More" and you actually do it? What is it that is different between the two?

Anyway, I am going to keep the ball rolling - my new goal is to get to 135. I figure goals of 5 pounds are doable and will keep me motivated.

My last two weigh ins (5/29 and 6/6) were both 190.0. Man, it just does not want to go. I ditched the weight watcher point system. It makes it too easy to eat packaged food which makes me feel yucky. Just back from two days of travelling. I managed to stick to my plans:
Breakfast buffet: no more than I'd've eaten at home
Lunch: simple sandwich, fruit, lots of water and tea
Snacks: fruit, water, tea
Restaurant dinner: salad (chicken caesar), water, glass of wine, coffee
Exercize: well, I was lucky in that the hotel was having its elevator replaced, and my room was on the 4th floor, so I got to do some stairs. I also took the train homeward from the airport and pulled my suitcase home up the hill from the station (a 300-foot climb over about 3 miles).
Dinner at the airport on the way home: sandwich, banana, water ... and a brownie I gave up resisting :o
I'll take a sneak peak on the scale in the morning to see how I did.

I don't know how it happened, but I lost a bit too! Down to 206.0 this time despite spending most of the week at the computer. I did get a long bike ride in yesterday, though. Totally un-planned. The trains were down and I had to cycle most of the way home. Probably about 24 miles, in jeans and trainers and with no water bottle because I hadn't planned on cycling. Today I am risking a trip in to work again, but I'm going prepared. I've got cycling gear in my bag and two water bottles.

I packed my lunch every day, had a healthy breakfast every day (but one) had ony one mt dew (will never get totally off them, but on a bad day I can drink many of them) everyday, and cooked a nice "let's dish" dinner each night. Went spinning twice, went walking three times, and even rode my own bike yesterday (first time in ages due to shoulder inflammation). All and all, I'm pleased with my week and I'm hoping that I see more lbs drop off this week if I keep up my pace. Hey all -

I didn't post my weight last week as I was away from a computer all weekend. I dropped another 0.2 so that's three weeks in a row in the right direction, yay me! You want to know what I changed? I stopped 'dieting'. I stopped eating all low fat or no fat foods (except skim milk). I eat the WHOLE egg, I eat full fat cheese, I eat butter. I just stopped buying 'diet' foods and starting eating the real thing but in moderation. Amazing. Now, I know that doing this isn't going to get me a super lean 'cut' physique...but if it'll get me back down to a "normal" 140 lbs or so...I'd be happy.

Anyway - a lot of you are doing VERY well considering there are so many vacations happening. Keep up the great job, all!!

Well, back down to 149. I seem to go between 149-150. This may be where my body wants to be. Great job to everyone.

138.8 :)

Well, I did it. I said that I was going to fit comfortably into my size 8 jeans, and I do! Five weeks ago, I posted my "before pictures." And now here are my "after pictures."

And I am not stopping here. My "whisper goal" is to get to 129.

Since I seem to have landed on the right formula these days to drop pounds, I am going to just keep doing what I am doing.

I am really proud of myself that I made a plan and then kept to it. :D

Posting those "before pictures" was a real motivator for me.

Definitely wish I saw this earlier! I am currently 143 and I started a bet with my sister to lose 10lbs by August 1. The winner receives $200 toward a pair of jeans! Where I really need to be to look my best is around 128, but 130 makes me a very happy girl! I'm a hair shy of 5'-7". I am just now starting to get back on the bike and the blades and my long city walks with my pug. If you extend this to July/August please count me in!:D

thanks,

Down another kilo as of this morning. 180.4 YAY! Didn't get the exercize I should've all week, and hotel meals for 3 days would usually have put me up the scale a bit. "Luckily" for me, I was sick those 3 days (Crohn's flare-up the night before take-off) so I barely ate, mostly just concentrated on staying hydrated and getting some easily digested proteins on board. Now my guts are back in order, so now I'll have to do some daily hiking and biking if I'm to keep the weight off while visiting my Mom. All that comfort food ... :p  She cooks very healthy meals! It's not that there's a lot of fat or sugar in everything, but she does do things like pancakes for breakfast and dessert after dinner when there's company in the house. Well, better get to bed if I'm to be up early and hike the Overlook Trail before breakfast! (Well, maybe not the first morning. I must be seriously jet-lagged to be sitting here on line at 1:30 am. Better get to bed!)
