Hurray for $600 that landed in my bank account this morning from the economic stimulus. Not sure how much it will help the economy, but it will definitely help pay off the car loan and maybe finance a bike part or two.

How will you spend your check?

LOL, I was hoping mine would be there when I checked my balance this morning...but nothing yet.

Mine is going to pay for the moustache handlebar conversion on my bike (I have gathered all the parts, now I just gotta pay for the labor). The rest will go into the ol' IRA.

I'm spending it on race travel. Or, along the lines of Zen, I could just buy a big bag of very high quality marijuana.

Zen, thanks for the chuckle..loved it.. As far as the check, not sure I will even see it. Goes into DH's account and doubt he will even tell me if it ever made it there or not. We should split it 50/50 but I know that ain't gonna happen..he's a greedy B@&T#D.

It's going into my savings account so I can travel to Kentucky for Ironman Kentucky, August 2008!

The trip is going to cost me $2,000 easy and I don't have but $300 saved up.

We're not sure we are going to get it. We are borderline for the cut-off, so if we get it, it'll be a bit of a surprise.

Ironically, if we do get it, it's going towards our tax bill for last year! :p

It's going into the "new bike-someday" fund.

Since we haven't filed our taxes yet....I don't know when ours is coming. And we're on the borderline of whether we'd even get one. We always get a huge refund (can't be avoided with the way my husband gets paid), so i don't know why in the world I put off filing the taxes, but I do. (I filed for an extension.)

I think that I will spend the stimulus rebate to purchase goods which are shipped to the US from other countries, thereby stimulating foreign economy. Some stimulus rebate for our economy, eh?

All sarcasm aside, the $$ will be used to pay off debt. Within 5 month's time we had to replace our garage door opener, washer, dryer, dishwasher, water heater, and water softener. Fun. Really fun. :(:(:(

Hah. All $200 of it. Won't even pay my CPA bill. Economic stimulus my fanny.

Bigger question is what to do with my (small) bonus from the job from h3ll. Currently residing in my savings account. Choices: 1) Continue to save; 2) get a digital SLR to take pictures of things that make me happy or 3) save part and get a grocery getting bike/around town (probably a breezer).

Decisions, decisions....

Savings fund for the ever-inflating house we want to buy! Even in down times, the market here is too high for the house on a little piece of land. Someday - -we will own our own little paradise. This will contribute.

Oh... and a full tune-up on the road bike! (OF COURSE...duh).

We're not getting it either. I don't want to get political, and have had enough ranting for today :o , but it just seems so ill advised to be giving money back when the economy is in the crapper. Our schools in CA are getting funding cut AGAIN. I hope I am wrong. I'm no economist. But the priorities seem "off".

(And really, I am not bitter because we don't get the $. In fact we are getting a pretty hefty tax refund after over paying estimated tax and making less $ than our estimates for 2 years in a row. That money is going to reduce our debt.)

What if you didn't get a refund but filed your taxs electronically is that the same? No? Also what if you file jointly? and your ss are different do they send it to you depending on who's ss comes first?

I just got answers to these same questions last night.

If you file jointly, it's based on the primary filers SS number.

If you paid taxes, it depends on how you filed. When we did ours electronically with Turbo Tax, it actually asked us for our bank info for the pending stimulus check (which I hope means we get *something*), even though we had to pay. If you didn't use Turbo Tax and you never gave your direct deposit info, then it'll generate a paper check that gets mailed out to you. I don't think that paying electronically is enough info for it to refund electronically (but I'm not 100% sure about that).

MAybe this will make you feel a little better about who is getting the money.
My sister who has been going through some very bad times with her youngest search "Lorelie update")who has been sick since Dec needs this very much. The hospitol bills are huge and one of the Dr's was not checked into properly by the hospitol they were at and now have to pay him in full. So be happy that some very deserving people got it as well. But I would agree that our schools and what not could have used it very much as well.

What bank is yours?
My bank last year offered us all this stuff when we opened our business account only to find we had been given wrong info. First our business credit card we were told we would have no interest unless we carry a balance. Low and behold there is interest no matter what. Then we were told "ohh that is a line of credit". Ahhh no one told us that. Then I get a service charge on a savings acount that came with the business checking account. A service charge of $50.00 because I am not keeping a 25k balance in the account! 25K???????what the? I had had $5.00 dollars in there for months. The bank manager had said that was all I needed to keep the account open. And why after 5 months all of sudden i get charged. Iwent into the bank and talked with the New manager (old one has since disappered). And he said he could not explain why all this was told to us. And he was very sorry! He reversed everything. Now I have him eating out of my hands! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. When i first told him all this stuff, after i said "Now I need you to redeem yourself with my business or I am going elsewhere"! And that was that!

We're not getting any stimulus, as we're apparently still in the "building" stage of our farm business. Meaning that we didn't make enough profit to pay taxes.

But a big kudos to the couple of you who are using part of your payment to join CSA's! That's what we do, and we hope it's as tasty and worthwhile for our shareholders as it is fulfilling for us. And maybe we'll even get to pay taxes one of these years...

:)
