I am looking for a bike that would have me sitting upright for commuting to work. My right arm got a little mangled in an accident last September and despite plates, therapy, etc etc has not fused and cannot bear weight. I can no longer wait to ride so I need a bike that allows me to sit near upright to avoid pressure on the arm. Suggestions? I saw the specialized expedition/crossroads and am considering them. Would like to stay under $500. I am 5'6" with 32" inseam shorter torso. Thanks for your input.

what about a used recumbent? Even an upright diamond frame is still going to have you putting some weight through the arm.

I got my BikeE recumbent new for about $500, and sold it for about $300. Since BikeE went out of business, you might be able to find one cheap. They are fun little bikes.

So glad to hear you're ready to ride again! Sorry I don't have any bike recommendations, just glad to see you're getting better!

Trek, are those martinis that you sent me, hiccup? \o/ thank you! I am thinking about a recumbent now. Looking around, but they are all pretty pricey. Craigslist is amazing, so I will keep an eye on it for one. Thanks for the imput all. D

How 'bout a breezer? You might be able to get one used for that price range (I think otherwise, they're 6-800). They're super upright - particularly in the U Frame, and come with commuting goodies (fenders, rack, etc). I'm looking at one for short errands - I rode one and was *completely* upright - very little if any weight on the arms. Just steering.

Glad to hear you're getting back out there - be gentle with yourself - you've been through a lot.
