View Full Version : Q For Gardeners-Natural Garden Concoctions

There used to be a show on PBS a few years back that featured a gardener who mixed his own garden concoctions using common household products, anyone remember it? I'm trying to get his name so that I can look-up his books. Like for pest control, he might reccommend Tobasco and dish soap, or for a fertilizer - it's half a can of beer, molasses, and a pinch of baking soda in a garden spayer. If not him, than maybe some other natural gardening authors who have similar ideas. Or point me in the direction of some good natural gardening websites.

Thanks,

~Sg"trying to overcome my black-thumb"tiger

P.S. I already have a copy of Barbara Damrosch's "Garden Companion" being sent my way.

I subscribe to the Organic Gardening magazine. It is a gold mine of information for the organic gardener.

I don't have a specific answer for you, but here's what I came up with on a quick search:

My favorite book: Eliot Coleman's The New Organic Grower (http://www.fourseasonfarm.com/main/books/books_eliot2.html).

One of the stores here sells a corn meal product that prevents the growth of dandelions.

Spokewench and Kerrybelle, I'll check all those out.

Snap, it's not the Victory Garden(I like that show BTW), but I think he made a guess appearance on there. It's driving me crazy that his name escapes me.

Oakleaf, I'm glad you reccommend that book because it's on my wishlist. He and Barbara Damrosch used to host a show on TLC called "Gardening Naturally" and authored another gardening book together. They are a couple IRL, I think.

Kat_h, cornmeal? Interesting, I'll have to try and google that.

Thank-you all:),

Lauraelmore1033, I could kiss you! I'll have to settle for a cyber hug instead. (((((LM)))))Thank-you.:D I've been googling trying to find his name and have come up with some other books of the same nature. However, the fact that I couldn't think of his name was seriously bugging me. Like I know it's rattling around there somewhere, but....

Thanks, Trek, I'll check them out too.
