I'm attempting to learn flycasting. So far 15 % of my casts go 15 feet and 15% of those go where I want them, so the emphasis is on attempting. I would really like to combine that with cycling, but as I am 5 feet tall and my rod is a 2 piece that takes a 60 inch case their are some problems. Anyone mix these 2 forms of outdoor recreation?

I see people doing it all the time because our bike trail is next to a river. Mostly I see people doing it on mountain bikes or hybrids, and the methods for carrying the rod are fairly simple -- I'd guess they are just ziptied to the frame somehow. I will ask my husband for his suggestions, because he's done this himself and I'm sure he's paid more attention to how other people do it.
Even more common is seeing homeless people riding along the river trail with a plain old rod and reel, either held in one hand or strapped to the bike with whatever is handy. Fishing and cycling definitely go together!

In coastal Florida, a lot of kids have figured out how rig up various contraptions to carry surfboards on their bikes, so I'm sure there MUST be a way to carry a flyrod!

I have been tempted to get this "as seen on TV"fishing pen to put in my bike bag. Certainly not for the serious fisherman, but it might be fun to have along.

I think I've seen someone rig up a length of PVC pipe zip tied in a few stragtegic places to the frame of the bike to carry a fishing pole in - I'm thinking more or less straight up and down zip tied to the chain stay, seat stay and rear rack if you've got one. It wouldn't have to cover the pole, just be long enough to keep it upright.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will just have to try fitting the case on the frame & go with the zip ties.
I took the beginning fly fishing class, to make boyfriend happy. I figure if I go flyfishing with him, he will feel obligated to make himself get back on a bike.
I think you should convince someone to give you a nice 4 piece for your birthday. I'm sure you have a birthday coming up in the next 12 months. 4 piece rods fold down really small. And fishing rigs are like bikes, you can't stop with just one.
