So I've been on the bike for about 3 weeks now this season, and have been steadily increasing the mileage each week. I'm up to 40km rides and planning a 55km ride for this weekend. I feel great when I'm riding, and after, and am totally addicted. I also need to lose about 40lbs, but I KNOW I'm already in better shape, have WAY more energy.
The thing is, the scale doesn't seem to agree! The first week I seemed to lose a few pounds, the next it was kind of level, then the past one I went up 2 lbs!!! No freakin' way. I'm eating WAY better now too, so what gives??!! Agh, it's frustrating as hell, but could I be gaining muscle perhaps? And now maybe the weight will just drop off.... yeah, right! :D

You probably are converting fat to muscle. How do you clothes feel? Sometimes inches are much more telling about the health of your body than the scale.
I also have to watch eating when riding. My appetite increases much more than my calories burned increase:rolleyes:

Similar situation here. I rode all winter, and usually when I start riding in the spring, the weight slips off me. Not so far this year. I seem to have plateaued at a weight about 5 lbs higher than I am in summer. I normally gain about 10 winter lbs, and only gained the 5 this year, but they seem to like it here, and don't want to leave.
Now, it occurs to me that it's not so much the riding as the eating. My BF works more in the summer, so I eat less. No big dinners, just whatever is easy and in the kitchen. I hate to cook, so that helps. It's not that tempting if I made it. Not that I'm a bad cook, just the hatred of chopping stuff keeps me from making anything too good for myself.
Maybe I should market that as a diet plan! "The Lazy Girl's Guide to Gettin' Skinny" would be the perfect title. Dinner entrees would include peaches and cottage cheese, salad bar from the grocery store, and my old favorite....toast. Hard to not lose weight on that!
Good luck with your effort, Stacie. By summer, if you don't see a difference, I'll send you some more menu options (PB+J, can of soup, frozen lasagnia, oh, the list goes on...).

LOL redrhodie!!
Glad to hear I'm not the only one. A friend of mine has kind of the same thing happening to her, so we're hoping it's just the beginning of the weight loss. My clothes feel a bit different, but not hugely looser or anything. I definitely can see more definition in my legs though, that's promising!
Hmmm... maybe I will convert to the Lazy Girl's Diet - heck, I think I'm already on it without knowing it!!! (she says as she eats toast) :)
