Ha! googled a new expression!

I will run Wednesday morning. Yes I am cheating. I have a rest day tomorrow earned by three double days.

I am going paranoid about my tibialis anterior.... it is fine once warmed up, after 6-8 hours resting it gets angry, a burning feeling.

but i. will. run. wednesday.

So I'm the first run today? Impossible!
5.5 miles on the trail in 51 minutes. A little hard after the 3rd mile -- turned around into a head wind, and suddenly I couldn't hit my stride after that. I didn't have the heart rate monitor on, but I think it was pretty high all the way back!

Had to swim later in day and I was TIRED!

Got back from spectating at Ironman Arizona yesterday. I was so tired when I got back. I spent 18 hours watching the race. Slept 5 hours and then flew home.

So I didn't get my in trainer ride like I needed to on Monday... but I was going to run for 60 minutes today. My coach told me to just get in my trainer ride tonight and get back on schedule.

I run again on Thursday. :)

Ran today, first time increasing weekly runs by 10% instead of 5. THe doc had me playing it safe for several weeks by only increasing 5%. Now I can finally start seeing larger increases in mileage. Do you know how frustrating it is to increase a measly 0.1 mile per week? Ugh.

Anyway, 2.6 miles today and felt good. Can't wait to make it to 3 so I can do my outside loop during work.

okay girls, I did the run one minute walk one minute on the treadmill today. I had to cheat a couple of times and wait a minute and a half to get my breath back a little more before I ran again, but other than that I did fine.

I fell on my knee yesterday so I was a little nervous that it might hurt, but it was fine.
I ran at 4 mph and walked at 3 and then a couple of times I ran at 5 mph, but that one really took the breath from me.

The sheet I printed off to that website you guys gave me said to do it 10 times but I did it 12 just cause I wanted to see if I could run 5mph for a minute.

OK, I'm up to a 10 min run and a 1 min walk so I did 5.2 km at lunch today, some with the kids. I have a charley horse (I think) in my right calf though. How do I make that go away? I've tried stretching and massaging to no avail. Maybe I'll google it.

KG: This is a common problem for me -- ICE helps right after exercising, ibuprofen, and stretching after warming up. Always stretch after running and lots of fluids. I fight this a lot and it can be so frustrating... I always take a couple days off running when it gets bad. GOOD LUCK! They can hurt SO bad! The other thing I've learned is that when I feel it starting to tighten while running, I walk. Otherwise, it is really bad when I'm done, or stops me dead in my tracks when I am a ways from home!

Also, I'm sure I read something here about cramping a while back and things to do to avoid it -- ie, hydration, electrolytes, etc.

Oh well goodness, someone has to post in this thread!

4.92 miles, back on the beach. Nothing in mind for this run, but while I was out I resolved I'm not going to post "no goal" any more, because it's just a depressing reminder of how my life is too up in the air to allow for any real goals right now :(

Today's theme on the beach: wind somewhat off the water, so the tide was higher than I'd expected - good thing I didn't wait until any later. The last few vehicles were being kicked off the beach, and I was running way up by the dune limit poles. A pretty day.

Passed 100 miles on the "new" shoes today :) ... and I got my lat workout too:

so was I so bad to reward myself?

I did the next step on the beginers schedule today. I was suppose to run 2 minutes and walk 4 and do it 5 times. I did it, my ankles hurt like crazy by the time I got done, but I did it and I didn't cheat at all.

The two minutes was really hard, I had to push through it. I'm wondering if the beginners schedule is for someone not so heavy as me.

I haven't been able to ride my bike this week because of the weather so I am wondering if, even though the schedule says to rest Friday and Saturday if I can go ahead and do it again anyway?

I wonder if there is something I can put on my ankles afterward to help them. I found the front part of my ankle hurting pretty good this evening after I was finished. It's okay now though.

If 2 minutes is too hard or if it hurts, then do less. When I started running again in January, after my shin splints, I was running 30 seconds and walking 1 minutes. Why don't you cut back to one minute run and 3-4 minutes walk and see how you feel. Whatever you do, don't increase until you feel ready, regardless of what the 'schedule' says, and even then, don't increase more than 10% per week.

I am here too. I did my mid-week run yesterday. I felt better than the last two Thursday runs. I made sure I did good warm-up and stretch.

I ran a bit shorter than I have been becuase I had a pretty good leg fatigue going this week. The result of returning to a more regular training schedule. So I am taking an easy week to unload it.

Although it was shorter, I felt really good, so that is more important. Came home and did my leg exercises and iced.

Probably 3 miles total.

2.2 miles today. Not bad for not having run in over a year. I felt like I could have kept going, but we had decided two miles would be a good start. I walked in te door and Thom said, "You weren't gone very long." It took me longer than I had hoped it would, about 25 minutes.

I wonder what will be sore tomorrow?

Ran last night at the track. OH! What a saga!

First the data:
5.50 miles in 49:17
8:58 minute mile

SPEED DEMON fast for me!!!! :)

Now for the saga... I leave work and I feel that the wind is not blowing as hard as it was. But I feel some wind.

OK, I'll go to the gym.

I start driving to the gym. And on the way I decide I'll run on a track that I have seen a little ways from the gym on Wed night rides.

But I still have to change. So off to the gym I go. I change.

I drive around looking for the track. I finally find it. No one is on it, so this means it's shut down (aka: the public can't run on it).

I then decide to drive to another gym near my apartment.

On the way over I think I'll go to another track near my apartment.

I finally get to the track. YES! Start to run. I'm feeling pretty good and booking it. The wind wasn't bad.

15 minutes into it, I had to pee. I had to pee BAD! Got in the car and drove up the road to the Taco Bell. Peed. Back to the track.

Got to running again. Then I started to feel shaky. AKA: Low blood sugar. So I go back to the car (it's close) and get a gel. I eat it.

I suck it down while I'm running. Keep running.

Around 30 minutes into the run I started to walk. Just felt like walking. Then I told myself to HTFU. Got back to running.

Overall a good run despite all the issues just trying to make it happen! HA!

My shins are screaming at me this morning. I am getting frustrated. I won't run again until Sunday so hopefully they'll feel better by then.

KG: Didn't know if you saw this link on the other thread:
http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_5/196.shtml Some good exercises for lower limb pain.

Well... the rain is holding off a bit, so I better get my butt off the couch and out for my run.

KSH: Thanks for the funny story.... sounds like a day I would have! Glad after it was all said and done you had such a good run!

I finally got off the couch today (my day off!). Missed any rain or snow, but the way back had a terrible head wind. Quick jog out -- 2.8 miles. Then turned around and hit the wind. Ugh. Always on the way back!

Finished with 5.78 miles. Jogged 45 min of that, then walk 40sec, sprint 20 sec x 8 times. I was ready to be done! Did some stretches and core work after -- now I can go to dinner and have a glass of wine. Love when I earn the good stuff! :p

Happy Weekend Ladies!

I've been too busy (and tired!) with our puppy, spring yard work, and a very busy time at work, but I finally got in two runs this week.

Sunday I ran 4.5 miles on the trail. Unfortunately, my hip was sore from too much gardening/digging on Saturday, but I still had a good run, and the weather was great (60s).

Wednesday I ran 5 miles on the treadmill at a 10:15 pace. It was the first five-mile run I've managed since we got Paisley (our pup) the day before Easter. I felt absolutely great, and nothing hurt. I wish I'd had time to do more!

Today I did a fast "power walk" outside at lunchtime (at work), because it was too pretty to be inside. I would have run but just didn't have the time to shower, so I had to keep it a bit less sweaty. I have to get ready for company tomorrow, but I plan to run on the trails on Sunday.

Glad to be back to read about everyone's runs!

I got in a long run today -- long for me! 63 minutes, 6.25 miles. Not bad.. sun came out (which I wasn't prepared for)... had to strip down! Took the dog along the river dike which was a nice change. Then swam 1350m at the pool while the dog got to nap in the car. My swimming sucks! Must do more. But the run felt good. NICE WEATHER HERE TONIGHT! The snow melted and the sun came back! YEAH!

Ran on Sunday, 4-20-08... it was pathetic! HA! I have moments of greatness (9:00 minute miles for 5.50 miles)... and then I'm back to square one. I know it's all because of what I do the day before and how tired I am.

Saturday, I rode 78 miles (5 hours)... and then I ran for 1.50 miles at a 9:30 minute mile pace. It was all I had to keep that pace and I had a HORRIBLE side cramp the whole time.

So Sunday I get up to do my "recovery" run of 80 minutes. I was tired when I woke up. Worn out. I started doing my 5 minute walk/2 minute run combo.

I was slow walking and slow running. My body felt tired... my legs were fatigued. I know it's moments like these I have to keep going to get better. So I kept going versus stopping.

What didn't hurt on this session though? I had foot pain, a hamstring cramp, etc. It was just miserable.

So, I ended up going 6.25 miles in 80 minutes... roughly a 12:30 minute mile. I typically do a 11:30 minute mile on my longer sessions.

Pathetic run. I know my huge training effort the day before affected my performance.

It's days like these that I think, "How will I ride 112 miles and run 26.2 miles back to back in 4.5 months!!!????"
