I love headwinds, no really if I keep telling myself that I might believe it. DH and I did what I call Dam Loop XL. Start in Liberty Hill, ride to the bagel shop and then do the damn loop before riding home. The dam loop is 37 miles of hill repeats, you chug up one and down then up and repeat. Today we felt extra silly and climbed the two mile Lakewood Drive forgetting there are two pretty steep spots, I would guess they get to about 15% grade but not sure. Oy, my legs and lungs were screaming and we hadn't even started the Dam Loop. Around mile 40 we realized we would be in quite a crosswind, then headwind for the rest of the ride.
I really thought the crosswind was going to do me in as we climbed the hills, then came the headwind at mile 70. Ouch, I felt like there were little trolls on my shoulder blades clubbing me. We fought a 20 mph headwind for the next 20 miles. At mile 89 we finally got a tailwind. This ride was originally going to be a century, but we nixed any extra miles and pulled in to the house with 92.49 well earned miles and nearly 7 hours of saddle time. Nothing on my body doesn't hurt this evening.

We're having our first 90+ day here.
I went to womens, but took a little bit longer loop.
I was riding with a lady, and we got ahead. I looked in my rearview mirror, and no bikes:o. so we doubled back , and I wound up dong my usual flat tire 101.:)
Thing went well until the climb at the end. We both made back to the cars, but it seemed the other gals were taking longer than usual. Turns out, one gal had thrown up :(.
I decided to take my usual route back by the minor league stadium. Of course I got there just as the game was ending.
30 miles, and surprisingly enjoyable

Now I know where my usual headwinds went....Texas! :D Probably looking for better weather....
Today's ride was pretty much the same route as yesterday, but done on my Super Grizzly rather than a road bike. The Omnidirectional Headwinds which normally plague me were strangely absent today, and I even copped a light tailwind when I needed one most. Fifty-four very pleasant kilometers to Sidney and back.

I tried three times today to get a ride in and each time the stopped me. After the third attempt I called it quits and decided I was suppose to hold the couch down today. zero miles today.

just the church commute in the snow and rain mix today. I couldn't use the "it could be even worse tomorrow" motivation 'cause it's spozed to get downright NICE this week :)

I fought it on our ride Saturday and it was only 25 miles. I can't imagine. You go girl!!!! Your more woman than me, I can tell you that. I was going to ride yesterday until I woke up and saw the wind. After Saturday, NO WAY!! LOL
DH was getting so mad Saturday because it seemed like every turn just put us more into the wind. He was trying to tell me we took a wrong turn. LOL

Wow, Amanda, you did really well! Can't imagine why you're sore. :p
Hubby and I rode from our house to Georgetown in DC and to the Marine Corps Memorial before heading back home for a total mileage of about 25 miles. The headwind back and on the bridges were nasty but nothing like what yours sounded like. ;)

"Wow, Amanda", is right! That sounds like one hell of a ride!
We did the same route we rode yesterday, but in the reverse direction. It was significantly cooler and a little breezy, but still a great day for riding. I'm guessing we did closer to 27-28 miles because we did have to loop back to the start to pick up armwarmers. My legs and sit bones were definitely feeling the previous day's first ride of the season, but all in all, we had a great time. Saw TONS of other cyclists...guess we should expect that around here!

It's Murphy's Law of Cycling: Every direction you ride will result in a stiff headwind.
Was windy here, too, for our shop ride. DH didn't want to go....said he had a sore throat and wanted to hang at the house. But...he went anyway...felt fine, no sore throat, although he hung with me on the C-ride. Had a good crowd - maybe 20 - with some new faces. I was the only woman tho' :( - gotta rally the women to get out there. The overall ride (A's, B's, and C's) was huge...perhaps 80 left the shop that morning. 31 miles at 17.2 mph.

Did a 12+ mountain bike ride yesterday with the FDH (future dear husband) and some friends. It started off raining, then windy, then really nice and sunny! Was a great weekend for biking and did a road ride the day before when it was in the 70s (not bad for Upstate NY).

I've had this phrase stuck in my head, it seems like the title of something but I can't decide what:
"The Mythical Tailwind"

We saw a lot of cyclists out yesterday, of course they were all going the opposite way. I kept thinking "you have to turn sometime and join the fun!":p
