Hey all...it's WABA Bike Swap time! I intend to bring out some jerseys, tights, and lights and stuff. C'mon down! I hope to have a clothes rack so bring clothes in good shape on a hanger to sell, too.

Here's the info....
---
WABA (http://www.waba.org/) and Bikes for the World (http://www.bikesfortheworld.org/) host the first bike and gear of the year
Saturday April 12 in the parking lot behind the Bicycle Place (http://www.thebicycleplace.com/) at 8313
Grubb Rd in Silver Spring.

Come buy, sell, or donate bicycles (or gear and clothing) at the WABA
Bike and Gear Swap! Bike sales benefit the seller (90%) and WABA's
efforts (10%) on behalf of cycling in the Washington area; donations
benefit the donor (a good feeling as well as a receipt good for tax
purposes) and Bikes for the World providing jobs and access to school
and health services here and overseas. In either case, your bike goes
to good use.

TO BUY, just show up between 9 am and 1 pm.
Volunteers help people find the bikes that work for them, and may make
minor mechanical adjustments ensuring safe use.

TO SELL, you have three options (10% of the sales price benefits WABA):

In person: Bring your bike or gear to the Swap– just return for your
money less commission or unsold bike by 1 pm.

New this year Early drop off: Bring your bike by bicycle beginning the
Tuesday before the Swap and fill out the consignment agreement, and
stop by the Swap by 1 pm for your money or unsold bike.

Donate if doesn't sell: Either drop off early or day of Swap, fill out
the consignment form initialing donate option, fill out a
self-addressed envelope, and provide a check for $11 for BftW donation
plus $1 for handling. If your bike sells, we send you your money less
commission and return your check. If your bike doesn't sell, we send
you a receipt.

Bring the bike by BP beginning the Tuesday before the Swap, or to the
Swap itself. We ask for a $10 donation to help cover shipping the
bike to a Third World nation. You can drop off early beginning
Tuesday at the Bicycle Place and get a tax receipt.

The swap schedule for the rest of the year is:

• Saturday May 17,
• Saturday June 14,
• Saturday September 13

For day-of-event details call the Swap 8 am-1pm at 202-487-0615.

Did you go? Find any cool stuff you couldn't live without?

I ended up not going. I got a call from Ramona on Friday evening, asking me to join her on her abbreviated N2 ride (23 miles vs/ 40). She's training for a tri in Herndon and needs someone to ride with to pace her. So, I went with her. I figured it was better to spend time on the bike before the Terry ride anyway.
Went to the shop later. The swap was just ending and there wasn't much there. They said it went great until about 10 or 10:30 a.m., then it rained for a few minutes, folks left, and it never picked up again.
I have some stuff I'd like to pass on, so perhaps I'll set up shop at the May swap. Can only justify getting new stuff if I get rid of the old! Now...if I could only bring myself to get rid of the shorts (trash 'em).
