I am starting the thread and I will be trying very hard to get out for a run today at lunch. A short run, as I am just starting back with baby steps, but a run none the less. See you gals later!!

RnR - I knew you'd like that.

I ran 3 miles today, done as .25 mile intervals with 1 min walking between. I'm a little sore tonight. It'll be interesting to see how I feel tomorrow AM. It felt really good to run outside and not on the track. And I used my Newtons which was kinda fun. They are sooooooooooo light it's amazing. Still not sure if I love them yet though.

My silliness comes from some ridiculous movie, kid's movie, with Bett Midler and Sarah Jessica Parker, they are witches...anyone? anyone, with me on this one.....

The Witches of Eastwick!!

Yay!

Also: I ran yesterday. I'm still on the low mileage diet, but slowly and surely ramping it up. I'm still not 100% sure my hip is better, it still feels off at times, but not necessarily painful.

It's getting warmer though, so hopefully I can focus on cycling this year.

Yahaaaay - 5.5K, my previously usual, small round, all in the new "Proud Triathlete Shuffle" I learned a week ago. The last time I got so far without hurting was... in December I guess.

please, please please ye gods of triathlon, please let me pass through this folly unscathed......

Actually the one with SJP and Bette Midler would be Hocus Pocus?

Isn't Eastwick the one with Cher, Meryl Streep and Michelle Pfeifer - ?
Different kind of witches - as I recall.

Speedwork today - hopefully outside if the rain will stop.

Kimmy, I have been wondering where you were....

Did a basic 3 minute walk/2 minute run combo tonight. On my second lap I did a bit more running that what I did on the first lap. Thus my overall average was pretty good.

1 hour 7 minutes
6.25 miles
10:45 per minute mile

Well since it was the first day of Running Club, they took awhile to get out of the gym so I took off and ran 2km before they even started. We were doing 1km loops around the block so it was easy to catch them on my 3rd trip. So for today, I managed to fit in my 5km run AND run with the kids. I think I did about 8 min run / 1 min walk today. My garmin wouldn't find a satellite for the first little while so I didn't use it until the second half of my run.

I also had another appt with the orthotic girl. We decided to try relacing my shoes. We took the laces right out and started them further up the shoe so there was less pressure on the big toe joint. Since I haven't had the orthotics in for a month, the tenderness is gone now and I couldn't feel any pressure when I did a short test run. I'll wear them like that for the next week or so and see how it goes. Hopefully, this will solve the problem for good. Cross your fingers!!!

Ran 7x400 intervals yesterday and got about 4 miles in total. Today I did 4.5 miles easy. My shins have been acting up with the pounding of the speed work :( . Time to get back to icing.

Only 3 today. I need to ice. I think I shuffled like an old person :D In fact, when I crossed the street (hoping cars would stop at the crosswalk), an older couple was walking/scootering the opposite direction. They had hesitated and I said "hey, I'm trusting they'll stop!". On the way back, one of them said "We didn't get hit but we weren't as brave as you!" I commented "imagine all the points they would have got!" thinking it was due to the combination of scooter and my shuffling.

I don't think they understood :(

Oh well. I felt older than them. Tomorrow is another day and I will understand the beauty of ice no matter how uncomfortable it feels. At least I stretched :D That is always some kind of miracle because I really don't do that as much as I ought to.

If that doesn't work, I have/had a solution that kind of works for me. I was fit for mens running shoes that are extra wide. I lace them loose near my forefoot and tighter up near my ankle. Of course my orthotics are cut to fit that style of shoe...the only thing that's bad is once your foot is corrected (ie going straight, at least for me) the joint flexes going straight. I don't think it wants to do that especially but for me the only alternative is surgery. I don't want that at this point in my life.

I envy your determination :D

I think much of my big toe pain problem is because I had bunion surgery on both feet when I was 20.

I haven't run this week yet

I did get my road bike out for the first time this season (snowy north, here) and felt GREAT!! Spinning all winter has really helped. I biked, then went to an evening spin class.

I have a boil under my arm!!!! I thought it was a lymph node, but now it is the size of a walnut and has a small head in the center. It HURTS!! I have never had one before. It is painful when my arm goes back and forth. I put drawing salve (horse type, of course, my husband is a vet!!) and a big bandaid on it, but man, is it sore!! This puppy better go away soon---I have miles to train!!

Happy running, girls.

If that remedy doesn't work... get to a dermatologist. I had a saddle sore that was like a boil/cyst. It was horrible. Would flare up when I rode, go down when I was done.

I went in and in 5 minutes she lanced it, drained it, shot it up with cortisone and my problem was fixed.

If it's the size of a walnut (ouch!) it might be better to just get it lanced and drained. Seems like that would probably speed up the process of getting rid of it. BTW, what is drawing salve?

I actually went to my family doctor last night. He wanted to give me antibiotics, but we talked about it and as long as I feel ok, we might as well wait for it to come to a head. I think he is so conditioned to people wanting drugs, that he was actually relieved when I said I didn't think I needed them.

He, and my husband (yikes! a DOG doctor) both agreed it is not ready to lance.

I ran 2.5 miles today in 19 minutes, but it was starting to hurt as my arm touched my side. I held my jog bra at the neck and held my arm tight to my side, but it still was getting sore. The boil is located at the very top of my arm pit when my hand is in the air.

Drawing salve is salve designed to soften the skin and draw things like slivers and abcesses out. This particular kind was black and smelled bad, but is ok for humans.

It did feel good to run, except of course for the searing pain in my arm pit!!!! Man, we are a strange group, us athletes.....:D

Ah...well I hope you can get it lanced soon Horsemom! That sounds painful.

I know my Dr. gave me antibiotics for my saddle sore... to use after the lancing... but I figured I would just see if the lancing did the trick. And it did. I try to avoid antibiotics if I can help it.

Suffering... it's not pain.... it's suffering. :)

We all gotta suffer to be athletic. Of course, yours is an issue that hopefully can be fixed real soon!

but also, asphalt makes the feets go faster.

In NJ for the funeral, I got in a little run in my in-laws' neighborhood. After running on the beach all winter, even small hills sure felt different - but without the energy absorption of the sand, I went a lot faster than I anticipated, too, even though a mile or so was on grass.

Not too much traffic in mid-morning, but the roads can be pretty busy, so I was glad for the Xinglet I just got from REI - much brighter than it looks in this picture.

5.03 miles at a 9:40 pace.

Owie Horsemom. I've had those a couple of times when I was younger, and the worst part is they made me feel so SICK. Ugh. Heal up fast!

Did another 5km with the kids today. Looks like it's going to work out running 5km at noon. I even have time to eat.

Then I did 30 minutes of hill repeats just before dinner (on the bike that is).

Oh, and I forgot. I wore my orthotics for the first time in 6 weeks and the my big toe joint feels fine (so far. KNOCK ON WOOD!!!!!)

Did 45 minutes at a good pace, then 8x20 sec sprints to finish. Felt good doing it, got completely soaking wet. But after the shower, everything started to hurt in my ankles / feet. What?! Could it be the new shoes? Only the 3rd time I've ran in them, and the first time was on pavement / hills for first time in a long time, so I wrote it off to that. Maybe there is something not right for me with these shoes? Hmm... I wonder if there is money back after 15-20 miles? I guess I give them a little more time and see what I think.

BUT... LANCE talked to me on my i-pod/nike plus thing today! He said, "congratulations... you just made a personal best mile time!". I love hearing Lance in my ears!

I had another tough mid-week run yesterday. Maybe that is just the way it is going to be. My legs were tired from mt biking and lifting and I just could not get in to a groove. My right hamstring was really tight, and it took forever to relax. I had to stop twice to stretch.

But I got it done, about 3.5 miles.

Oh and it was warm for the first time yesterday...blech....

I ran 7 miles today and yes, it WAS beautiful outside :D:D:D

It was a good day. Last night I fell asleep reading Chi Running. DH came home (he worked until 1am or so) to find me asleep with the book and the lights still on. When I ran today, I tried to focus on proper form, relaxation, and listening to my body. It was one of the easiest runs I've ever done and my average wasn't that bad. I could have gone longer even.

I then had another stress test because my doctor was worried about PAC's. I got the pleasure of running on a treadmill without an exercise bra because they were also doing pre and post echocardiograms. The awesome thing was the cardiologist said I was completely healthy and the rhythm problems aren't a factor. So, yay! I didn't think it had been bothering me but I guess I was concerned...anyway he said I am cleared to do any and all athletic activities. I had never been NOT told to do them but they just wanted to make sure. It's nice to know I won't fall over from some undiagnosed heart ailment.

5.27 around the inlaws' neighborhood again. A definite contrast from yesterday - everyone was exhausted from the funeral and a big lunch, I kicked myself awake and snuck out for my run while the family was sleeping. Yesterday's morning run was sunny and warm; late afternoon today it was cloudy and cool. Felt pretty decent, but not as good as yesterday.

Ran 10 yesterday. The first four were pretty tough but I got into a groove and finished strong. Woke up early today to run 3 (was supposed to do these at my goal half-marathon pace) but felt pretty sluggish and only hit the right pace the last mile.

I ran today on the way home from the pool. Same plan as last Saturday. It seems to work well for me. I don't know if the pool gets me loosened up or what, but I had a 99% pain free run. Now that on the heels of a miserable run Thursday. So maybe I do better in the am, or post swim, who knows.

Now I just gotta make through my ride tomorrw....

Well, we had some nice weather for a good part of the afternoon today so I went for about a half-hour trail run. It was pretty soggy in places and I also stepped in the stream by accident while trying to run across stepping from rock to rock--I stepped onto a log that was slippery and slid right in! So I guess one could say I ran a-MUCK today :D (and it was fun!). However, I'm definitely not in my best running shape--I felt slow and had to take a few walking breaks which I don't particularly like having to do.

I iced my t.anterior the first time yesterday. Bought 2 little silicon cups so I can always have a large ice cube on hand.

I ran maybe 4k yesterday morning and plan to repeat tonight.

Can icing be used for sore tendons or attachment points too? I have another spot that could use some improvement. I think I will treat myself to another couple PT sessions anyway.

Felt pretty lazy today after blowing off cardio yesterday (I got in a decent Pilates workout though), hanging out with a friend, getting back at 2 a.m. - but just thinking about our Iron Women got me off my butt!

A similar loop to the last two days (not too many options around the inlaws' neighborhood), but for some unknown reason my feet were flying. 6.4 miles at an 8:35 pace

I'm having trouble with my left leg again, darn it! (this is why I ended up walking my last tri, and I don't want to walk this one!)

Messed around with the posting pattern on my Superfeet, and will try going out for another run this afternoon.

Yoda, I need you! It's so hard to analyze one's own gait...

Hamstring origin and ankle are grumpy and forefoot is sliding wildly to the outside in the shoe during toe-off. If I hugely internally rotate at the hip, all is well. Thought it was medial ham, but medial/lateral hams are balanced. Hoping maybe I'm getting too strong for my wedges, so I trimmed them down. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Did 6 miles yesterday - my weekly long run, slow pace. Felt good but it was a little cold - upper 30's and breezy.

Early in the run, which was in my neighborhood, a group of little kids came into their front yard. A little girl, who was wearing slacks and a short-sleeved shirt, was saying "oooh, it's cold!" She watched me go by and started bouncing around saying "exercise, exercise - "

A little later, I heard a mom tell her little boy, "yes, honey, she's exercising."

Towards the end, a family (dad, mom and two pre-schoolers) were in their front yard playing with blossoms that had fallen off of their tulips. The little boy came out to a few feet from the street and said (with a tulip stuck behind one of his ears) "hiiiiiii" -- and waved - and waved. The dad laughed and said, "Our kids don't get to see people exercising very often."

So I wasn't a runner, a walker or a jogger - I was an "exerciser." Not big news, I know - just kind of funny how it just turned into the theme of the day. I'd never heard that one before. Kind of cute.

Went out for four yesterday and managed to sprain my right ankle :( It hurt pretty badly for a few steps and then felt okay so I finished my run. It wasn't until I was done that I realized it was going to be an "injury" versus a bad misstep. So, I'm taking a few days off. Hopefully Thursday or Friday I'll be ready to run again. I'm one of those people who hate taking days off for sickness/injury so it's taking a lot of will-power to skip runs.

Hopefully my ankle will be okay to ride the bike! I'm traveling now so haven't had any time to really get onto the bike but this may be the week to start once I get home. My only worry is I will have a hard time unclipping. I sprained my left ankle a few months ago and when I was at my LBS on the trainer learning how to clip in and out the twisting motion hurt my old ankle injury. I figured, well, I'll just unclip with the right one until the left one heals up fully. Now, I've got two gimpy ankles :(

Well, I was in Arizona this past weekend to watch IMAZ.

I had a 2:20 run scheduled on Saturday and I got up at 6:00 AM... running by 7:00 AM. Ran 12 miles... and did a 11:40 minute mile with a 5 minute walk/2 minute run combo. Overall did a good job. It was nice to run somewhere new.
