Have we managed to exhaust every topic imaginable this winter as we look out our windows and hope for spring? Is there anything else that we can discuss? I am BORED - someone come up with something. Quick.

Scabs?
Fishing?
Carpet?
Gotees?

HELP!!!!:D:D:D:D

My carpet is yucky cheap apartment-complex pearly gray stuff.

I had some yummy chicken with sweet potato breading.

Bagless Hoovers are a booger to clean out. I kind of miss my Kenmore with the highly wasteful disposable bags.

We bought a new vacuum last night and I was actually excited to use it. Hoover Windtunnel but I sure wish ol' tightwad would have let me get the Dyson.

DH won't let me have a cat, so every cat in the neighborhood comes to rub on my legs when I am outside.

I wish there was a way to dry jeans without the racket of the buttons hitting the dryer.

What 'choo talkin' 'bout? My new dog Ruby CAN speak.

She barks when she has to poop, she whines when she has to pee, and she cries when she wants food or attention. Three very different sounds for the various activities.

(Sometimes it's quite annoying, like at 5 am when she's barking her way down the back steps and the neighbor yells "a$$ho!e" at me. Now we do our morning poop out the front door on a leash. :D )

I cut my left thumb uncorking a bottle of wine last night. Because my husband was yelling at me. I simply can't be yelled at and operate a complex piece of machinery like a corkscrew at the same time.

It's still bleeding and to add to the confusion, my dog Earl cracked a toenail while birdwatching this morning and now I can't tell whose blood I keep finding on the floor--mine or Earl's.

And I need a tetanus shot.

Good enough excuse to drink the rest of the bottle of wine.

Why is it so difficult for the cashier to take off the save $2.00 now sticker off of the item she scanned? Does she think that I can now not only put all of my groceries on the belt, run my own credit card, load my own groceries into my cart, take my own groceries to my car, bring the cart back AND now REMEMBER the coupons??? What's next? When do I start stocking shelves?

A canner exceedingly canny
One morning remarked to his granny
A canner can can anything that he can
But, a canner can't can a can, can he?

Makes sense, right?

From the tombstone of Effie Mae Robinson, aged 23:

Come blooming youths as you pass by
And on these lines do cast an eye.
As you are now, so once was I.
As I am now, so must you be.
Prepare for death and follow me.

Someone added to this:

To follow you, I am not content.
How do I know which way you went?

OK.. snow on the ground this am, so back at the trainer.

My lab kept licking her paw this morning, and I found a huge puss filled abscess in between her toes -- spent an hour convincing her to let me soak it in epsom salts and open it and flush it out for drainage. Now have to get her some antibiotics. Poor girl! Flushed out some plant material, so hopefully that's all that is in there. I have NO doubt what she was saying to me through all of it!

Had an excellent dinner last night of good wine, cheese, flank steaks and grilled tequila marinated shrimp, grilled asparagus, more wine, home made chocolate cream pie, more wine... Hmm it's amazing I remember the food with all the wine we drank!

The sun is OUT!!!!!! Oh... now it is gone.

Had a devil of a time trying to get them out of the pan! They ended up peeling away from the edge of the pan, so I brought a plate full of the brownie "middles" and the crusty stuff along the edges...well, that didn't pass inspection and I had to eat it right out of the pan!
But that's okay...I totally prefer the edges of brownies to the middle. Corner pieces are the most coveted.
So...for you.... brownie edges ... or brownie middle??

I found a harness that finally keeps Maeve (my strong 80lb golden retriever) from pulling when we walk. She would pull so hard she could tow me up some huge hills in our neighborhood and she occasionally gave me shin splints. This harness is the Holy Grail for a dog with poor leash manners. We've been having some good walky-walks. Used to be loathe to walk her since she was so difficult to manage.

Fiona, the 7-month old, is good on the leash, although she will lolly-gag after a bit. Sniff sniff, what's this? Stop for mommy to give a big hug and smooch on the head! She loves to get the leash in her mouth, and strut her stuff. "come with me, mommy, I in charge now!" She moves like a show dog!

There's nothing as wonderful as a golden retriever on a walk! Smiling furry face, swinging feathers, tail wagging, paws gliding.

1+ on the gentle leader --- excellent way to stop pulling. Takes them a while to get used to it, but really is helpful.

This is from the person who only used it on our dog as a pup -- now I just like to complain that she pulls. Haven't done anything about it -- mostly because she rarely has to be on leash -- we live next to a nice trail and she was trained off leash much more than on leash.

Also: 1+ on the middle of the brownies! Straight out of the pan while still warm. Ooey, gooey goodness!

It's a joint effort. I made the pie (mostly) and the rub for the salmon. Thom helped me with the meringue and cooked the salmon, sauce and risotto.

The pie turned out pretty well. I never liked lemon meringue as a kid and so had never considered making it as an adult. Our latest Cuisine magazine had a recipe and that's when Thom tells me he likes lemon meringue pie. We've been married almost 22 years and together for 25 and now he tells me...

The pie was an all day affair. First you make the crust, chill it for 30 minutes, cook it, make the lemon filling, dump it on the crust, cook it, chill that for 6 hours... make the meringue, top the pie, cook it...

I have today off, technically is it my "saturday".
Lunch was a breeze today, we had pizza last night at work, after all it was Doctors day, so I bought pizza for the unofficial party that we threw. And as luck would have it, you buy enough pizza, you get leftovers. SO leftover pizza today for lunch..my favorite too. white garlic cheese pizza with green olives and pepperoni...also bought a spinach, ricotta and artichoke pizza too. The white pizza I think wins hands down all the time. And the doc's wife brought us cake, one girl brought in homemade cookies and chocolate. And the coffee pot was filled and fresh all day..
Tonights dinner is going to be pork chops, stuffing and mashed potatoes and sour cream. Dessert will be either the PB cookies left over from last week, or a zinger. Remember those little treats?
I prefer brownie crusts..centers are ok, but give me a crunchy edge piece any day.
And as some of you shudder, yesterday I placed an order at Performance for some new tires. Price is right and it was double points weekend. The biking shopping season has started. OK, so it goes on all the time, but it's spring time, shouldn't that be the official start of bike accessory shopping? I need an excuse to justify my indulgence in biking attire and accessories..
oh, and i love my new kitchen aid mixer
my flight of ideas to add to this thread are thru..

Flybye - have you seen the Peticure (http://www.peticure.com/index.html)? I'm tempted to buy one, but I'm afraid it would be another failure in the toenail department.

What is your major? You must be one of those smart math chicks. While I pulled A's in all of the college math courses that I took, it wasn't my cup of tea. I remember sitting in the library with my dh (he was a pharmacy major) and he was constructing a cell by snapping together all of these round blocks that were colored connected to sticks, like lollipops. Watching Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmer. He's having sauer kraut pie:confused: in Minnesota right now. He discribes it as a confussion of flavors. A mixture of vinergary from the kraut and sweetness from the vanilla custard filling all held in a flakey crust. He seems to be enjoying it. I can't see how that works at all, but it's pretty tame compared to the other things I've watched him eat.

ETA: Brandi, you and your DH make a very cute couple.:D I don't think a goatee works for everyone, but it looks good on him.

OK, OK. I was in the store last night, and along with my usual lovely variety of crap ;) I picked up some actual items to cook. I am pulling out the crock pot this morning. We will see if it cooks something for me by the time I get home tonight. :p

My favorite male actor: Johnny Depp - Edward Scissorhands, Benny and Joon, Willie Wonka, and Pirates - wow!

Favorite Female: Catharine Hepburn (love On Golden Pond) and Goldie Hahn's daughter, her name escapes me at the moment. Love How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.

Love Say Anything, while not a profound movie it is fun. There is a great scene where he talks about what he wants to do with his life and rambles about not selling anything, making something to be sold, etc.... That scene cracks me up, it is beyond awkward.

Emma Thompson, Julie Christie, Judi Dench, Helena Bonham Carter

I am rather annoyed they've all been hijacked by hollywood & not made any great films recently because of it.

DH is going to big initial squared tax place (not sure if its correct to put in a business name or not) tomorrow night to get our taxes started, I think we have to pay in so we are procrastinating. Thank god I will be at work, its painful for me. He has his own business and we go thru page upon page of do you still own this, or this, or this, etc..i hopefully can get out of it and just stop down and sign some other time. He is insistant that I be there to hold his hand I think. Had my parent's over for lunch today. DH and mom had left over spanish rice and dad and i had limburger cheese/onion sandwhiches on rye bread for lunch....yummy..the smell is horrible yes, but the flavor is realllyy reallllyyy good, really! planned on making tapioca pudding for dessert, but didn't have time. Had a dentist appt this morning and got home just as they were pulling in the driveway. perfect timing.. Had the house all cleaned last night, got up and there was mud in the kitchen. DH swears he didn't do it, strange, no one else wheres muddy boots..he said the cat did it. so had to clean again. Just made the tapioca pudding, it's nice and warm. had to sample it before supper. way too windy today for a ride, i am getting sick of the wind. I might have to learn how to suck it up and just ride. Falls make you stronger right?

Have we managed to exhaust every topic imaginable this winter as we look out our windows and hope for spring? Is there anything else that we can discuss? I am BORED - someone come up with something. Quick.

The girls and I took a walk this evening and needed something to brighten the expedition -- brown trees, brown grass, brown ditches, brown fields, brown corn stubble, broken brown beer bottles -- Indiana's not exactly burstin' with Spring colors yet. ;)

Anyway, the following topics were discussed: quarks, anti-matter, Fibonacci numbers, and the wild Przewalski's Horses (in addition to singing the "Beep-Beep! Road Runner" song).

Perhaps these topics would lend themselves to a rolicking good discussion here also! :):)

Beep beep! Arrrgh!!! The house next door has been up for sale, it is closing now. Thursday they tented it for termites. I guess the gas or something disagreed with the smoke alarm - it started Thursday, and continued beeping through to Saturday morning. Have I mentioned my bedroom faces the street? I could hear that incessant beeping all_night_long. At about 4:00 am I'm standing out in the driveway, listening and trying to pinpoint the beeping. Figured out what it was, and knew there was nothing I could do (besides be really *****y and call the Realtor at 4 am--but I didn't) I ended up moving to the couch in the back of the house.

Someone showed up this morning and disabled the smoke alarm. Tonight I will sleep!;)

Stupid technology! My alarm clock automatically adjusts for daylight saving time. But, it doesn't know that Congress changed the rules, so this morning I woke up and saw that it was 6:30, so I got up. An hour later, I look at another clock and it's still 6:30!

LMAO divingbiker, I did the exact same thing.

I bought a new PDA in December and stupid me, I assumed it would have the freakin' 2007 DST system update already installed. (Actually I didn't assume that, I'd downloaded and installed the update in my old PDA so long ago that I'd forgotten it even might be necessary.) So when I looked at it this morning and it said 6:05 a.m., I got up, even though it seemed pretty dark. Well, it was supposed to be cloudy.

By the time I got to the kitchen to make my cup of tea and saw that it was really 5:05 by the oven clock, I was already awake, no point trying to go back to bed for an hour. I assumed I'd just misread my PDA with my sleepy eyes. It wasn't until 7:00, when my PDA rang for a reminder I'd set for 8:00, that I realized what had happened
