How do ya'll keep motivated to swim when it is snowing outside? we have about 9 inches and I just don't want to swim.

I think since I don't have a written workout anymore (since my swim coach moved) it is harder for me to get motivated also. Anyone know where I can find some swim workouts? I got some out of a Tri mag but the distances are too long (3600+) - I can reduce them some, but the other thing is they involve swimming other strokes and I don't know how to do them. Since I just learned to swim we never bothered to learn the other ones, I can backstroke, but don't like to it makes me dizzy, and I can kinda breaststroke. I tried the pull but had trouble rolling to breathe I kept losing my balance.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

hi trigurl, it doesn't snow where i live here in arizona, but it does get a little chilly in the mornings. i meet with a group of people to swim, which keeps me motivated (i can't really sleep in if they're waiting for me!). have you tried getting in with the local master's group?

i have a couple workouts you could try if you're interested, just let me know.

I did try swimming with the masters, I was the only one there and the masters coach wasn't even there that day so I ended up swimming with the tadpoles! what the heck is a bronco billy supposed to do? that was my first and last time. The masters coach has talked me into doing a swim meet with them in April tho, he likes my swimming :)

Please send me those workouts, anything will help at this point.

It's so cold outside, I just remind myself of how extra warm the pool area feels! Honestly, I swim at the Y and it feels like summer in there.

My gym keeps it warm but not warm enough for me! they have a lot of older people who walk in the pool and do aerobics classes so if it gets too cold they hear about it :D

I found a website somehow called Counterpart Coaching, a swim coach posts a new swim workout everyday, most of the people on the forum seem to be triathletes, I may try those.

Swimming is such a great workout for keeping everything in shape. I was a distance swimmer in college. Wasn't great - but I never gained the freshman ten. Instead I gained the teaching forty. :D (Which - thankfully has disappeared)

Anyway if you can find someone to teach you those the other strokes they are really good for maintaing a balance. Breaststroke works your chest and inner thigh more than freestyle ever will. And butterfly is awesome for back and abs.

I tend to do mostly freestyle. I hate back stroke and refuse to do it now. ;) But I always throw in at least a few lengths of the others. That is when I can get my butt to the pool. Our's are outside. I find it really hard to go when it's cold and dark.

trigurl - why don't you try some of these. I'm swimming between 1500 - 3000 meters at a time. I'm not sure what distance you're going right now, but you can find something in here to help, hopefully.

1750 meters (250 wu, 250 x 5, 250 cd) 30 second rest between each, steady efficient pace

2000 meters (250 wu, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 250 cd ) 30 second rest between each - steady efficient pace

2300 meters (250 wu, 150, 300, 450, 450, 300, 150, 250 cd) 30 second rest between each - steady efficient pace

2500 meters (250 wu, 500, 250, 500, 250, 500, 250 cd) 30 second rest between each, steady efficient pace

2800 meters (250 wu, 250, 500, 800, 500, 250, 250 cd) 1 minute rest between each - steady efficient pace

I am trying to focus on form mostly during the drills. I also take a swim class once per week where we focus mainly on positioning in the water.
