Hey,

I have no clue if this film is now old news up in the NOrthern Hemisphere but it was just released down our way. http://www.theblackballoonmovie.com/

The main reason for recommending it is I feel it portrays family life with a disabled child/sibling in a serious yet humourus manner. I am aware some of you are teachers etc & may deal with Autistic children in daily life.

It's an aussie film so it doesn't hold back, which appeals to me. Toni Colette (from Muriel's Wedding & Dirty Deeds) plays a brilliant mother who seems to hold her family together although the world around her doesn't understand her son, charlie. It's a tale of love, anger, laughter & confusion in a modern world.

Great film & worth watching if it's on near you.

Doesn't look like it's here yet, but it sounds good. Almost 8 1/2 stars on IMDB.com!

I don't think it's in the US yet but I'll watch for it.

The only other Aussie move I have ever seen was My Brilliant Career, which is one of my all time favorites. I wish I could remember the name of the author of that book. At the time I saw the movie I really had to work to find a copy of the book through interlibrary loan. In the US the PR said she was Australia's most beloved author and compared her to Willa Cather.

Just a heads up about a new Nicole Kidman film Australiabeing released soon. I'm not a huge Hollywood fan but want to suggest the film because...it was(partially) filmed in the Northwest(The Kimberly region) of Western Australia :D
