What color is your helmet? Do you pick a helmet to match your bike or a color that will make you more visible??

Blue - it fits and the price was right!

Geez, I loathe my helmet.

It's orange (not the bright, bright orange but bad enough) and clashes with everything.

...so probably really visible.

Black. Goes with everything, doesn't look dorky.

The first helmet I bought was dark charcoal grey. I figured it was a dark color so it would go with anything. What I didn't consider was visablity. Now that particular helmet is my 'winter' helmet because it's big enough to fit warm stuff underneath and I've covered it with a lot of reflective tape (it's pretty ugly now!).

My 'regular' helmet is white. It's more visable than the darker colors and it still goes with everything (my road bike is white and blue).

I have a hard time because I have a HUGE head...so even if I liked the pretty girly colored helmets, they just don't come big enough for all my brains anyway. ;):p

Oh my helmit is really neat. It is a light gray with very light green oriental style graphic's on it. I love it. and no it does not go with my bike. My bike is very manely color wise. Not my pick. It was a frame we couldn't pass up. The price was right you know. So black, silver and bright yellow would not be my first choices. But my bike rocks so it doesn't matter!

Yellow -- highly visible and it matches my bike!!!

I second redrhodie: black for non-dork factor.........That being said, I count on my screaming yellow Brooks Nightlife vest or jacket to supply the "Hello, please don't hit me!" eyeball-catching alert to drivers. ;)

Primarily white, with blue and red.
I didn't want a dark helmet. I have this opinion - based largely on nothing - that a dark helmet would be hotter in the summer. The white, red, blue one is was the only tolerable color they had in my size.
I didn't get it to match any of my bikes -- although I guess you could say it coordinates with my blue commuter.
I didn't get it for visibility.

What color is your helmet?

I honestly have no idea. I should wash it off and find out.

My first helmet was dark red and kinda matched my bike. My second helmet is a neutral mid-grey.

I have a black helmet and a silvery gray helmet.

The orange helmet would go with my orange tires and orange tape!

First I start with helmet fit and then price range, then colors that I like...and I usually stick to the lighter colors for the heat thing whether it's true or not and somewhat for visibility.
My road helmet is light grey, yellow and white and happens to somewhat match my bike,
My mtb helmet is white and blue-green and doesn't match any of my 4 mtbs. Oh well.

My helmet is gray with an iridescent design on it. I got it because it was pretty and not too expensive. It does not match my bike but it does not clash with my bike.

My bike is turquoise so I guess you could say it "goes" with my bike.

Bright screaming neon lime-yellow, with reflective tape all over it, reflective straps, and a 3-way blinkie (mutant guppy) on top.

My sweetie bought it for me. She wants me to be visible. :D

My helmet is a white Trek Vapor because a) it was inexpensive, b) it was light weight and it fit well, and c) I didn't like the other color choices (black or blue). :)

My helmet is red and silver. It didn't match anything at first, but now it does match my folding bike. An accident. I have it because it fits like no other. It's my second specialized helmet and I have yet to find another one that is as comfortable as this one on me.

My helmet is something that Giro calls "white camo." I wanted white for visibility, but plain white seemed so...plain white. White camo's a cool pattern of varying shades of off-white. Soooo much better than just white.:D

Strange as this may sound, I spent almost 18 months trying to find a helmet in the colour(s) I wanted, price range and fit. didn't feel like spending over $200 on helmet.

It drove me abit nuts...in the end it's a red helmet I got under $100.00. I wanted something just flashy in right way, but more visible in bright yellow or similar. Visibility is way more important to me. I never thought of matching helmet to any of my bikes.. at any point in time.

I definitely wanted to avoid predominantly dark colours..I have black hair..just makes zero sense.

Light grey, black trim.

I had to laugh.. when I read the thread's Title, all I could think of was that darned book we had to read in school: What Color is Your Parachute? So glad this wasn't a similar reference!:p

I have a red helmet to match my old red bike that I no longer ride. The helmet and the bike are pretty hideous.

I know sport a white Vigor. I love everything about it. I even love the fact that it makes me head look larger than it actually is. :D

I have 2 helmets. One is blue, with a little yellow in it. I wear it for cold weather riding and leave the straps set up so I can fit the beanie under it. The other helmet is yellow.
All of my helmets have been yellow or blue. I had one really ugly olive green one and that's what I was wearing when I crashed in January of 07.
None of them match my bike, which is black, with a little red and white.

Training helmet is matte gray- Giro Atmos
Race helmet is the silver with pink stripes Giro Atmos, matches with my kit
TT helmet is the Giro Advantage 2 in black and chrome, the only one I could find that looked good with my kit- didn't like the blue one with it. Old TT helmet is the Advantage 2 in red, white, and black- it matched my old kit, I only used it twice so I have now gifted it to my BF(he actually bought it for me as a gift, so not sure how well it worked that I gave it back to him as a gift) b/c it matches his kit-hehe

Road helmet is white. Matches everything :)
Commuter/MTB helmet is black with nifty subtle gold graphics on it. Matches everything.

I've never noticed that one helmet is warmer or cooler than another.

Mine is charcoal grey, but i am wondering if it is time to replace it - I havenīt had any accidents with it, but after 6 years, itīs looking a bit worn.

The first helmet I had was fluorescent pink and shaped like a bowling-ball. Talk about geeky. This was back when helmets werenīt that common and was the only one that our local bike shop had. At least they are a little more streamlined these days.

I have three:

Road - Red & White Giro Atmos

Mtn - Lavender Giro E2 - Summer helmet, has more vents.

Mtn - White Camo Giro Xen - Winter helmet, has more coverage & less vents. Also keep my helmet light on this one.

2 Bell Ghisallos. One is yellow. The other is orange and blue. I choose for fit and visibility. Neither go particularly well with my bikes--white bike, red bike, and silver bike.

Silver-y gray LG. It seemed to look the least dorky :o on my head and have the most vents for the price.

I really wanted the white/purple specialized (to go with my white/purple dolce) that was on close-out with a great discount, but when I tried on the specialized helments, they looked really funky on my head:(, and of course we all know that LOOKS are more important than any other consideration!!;)

What color is your helmet? Do you pick a helmet to match your bike or a color that will make you more visible??

Had to match the bike.

I found a model I really like, so I got a silver one to match my blue bike (the closest I could get)... and I got one in black to match my black and yellow bike.

I couldn't stand wearing my silver helmet with my black bike.

And before that I was wearing a bright blue helmet with my black bike... uuuhhhh, no!

Jolt

Light metallic purple--doesn't really match my bike (although doesn't clash either as my bike is dark purple) and isn't particularly great for visibility, but I have a small head and therefore youth size helmets (at least with Bell) are the ones that fit me best. The model I chose only came in the purple or black, and I thought black would get really hot in the summer and be even worse for visibility so I went with the purple. If it had been available in white I would have gone with that.

White - reflects the heat of the sun better. :D

Previous helmet was blue, cause I like blue, but got replaced after 3 yrs and a face plant on concrete steps (broken nose), but protected me from cracked skull. My head was hot even with the light blue, so went for max reflectability when I bought a new one.

I can't imagine anyone wearing a black helmet in our summer sun. Dang fools. Must like cooked brains.

I just had to answer this one....
I just got a new PINK (w/ black) bike. I never wanted pink--I am not a pink kind of gal. I am short & with a small bike and feel like pink makes it seem even more "little girly". :pThen again, I wanted carbon and it climbs like a dream. That being said I found a giro pneumo (I think) w/ the same hot pink. Yes, I do have to match the bike--if you have a pink bike that is. I even got a hot pink tiny seat bag to match. I have no pink bike shirts--YET!

I have the Discovery helmet without all the logos. DH found it on sale. Bike is black, silver, and white, so goes with everything. I agree with others on black. I won't even get a black jersey because of the heat factor. I was disappointed this past year when I went to the HHH. I was going to buy a jersey, but they were black. I can't justify paying $70 for something that I will not wear because of the heat.

My biking helmet is bright yellow. Anything that will help in any tiny way to help cars see me better is the right color for me.
On the other hand, my roller skating helmet is black. Not much chance of getting hit by a car in the roller rink! ;) Besides, the rink floor is white, so black stands out anyway. In the rink, little kids are going to fall across your path no matter what you wear. So....bike wear=visibility, roller rink wear=padding.

With my figure, there is never any doubt that I am a 'girl'....no need to clarify it with pink like they do with babies so you can tell what sex they are. ;) :D

Mine is a light blue Giro; fit and visibility are the 2 main factors I consider, as well as the lighter color + vents to reflect the heat instead of absorb it.
Sometimes, when I see riders in all dark colors/helmet too, without anything reflective on, it's very, very hard to spot while driving. Even if it's a sunny day, I know how a rider can be almost invisible in the shade or road shadows, until a driver is almost upon them. Being a rider, I think that I'm (we all are, I'm sure) more alert to looking for and spotting other riders while I'm driving, but some riders make it near impossible, when they ride dark bikes, with dark clothes, dark helmets and no lights or reflective items, yes, even on a sunny day...so, if a lighter-colored helmet is the only thing that catches a driver's eye, then I'm going to make sure I've got it on my head!

One is black & purple which goes quite nicely with my mountain bike (black with metallic purple bottle holder). The other is lavender & silver. It doesn't match my other bike (blue) but I like purple/lavender & blue combos. I wanted the colors primarily. Since my LBS didn't have the fit in stock they special ordered them for me.

My helmet is gray with an iridescent design on it. I got it because it was pretty and not too expensive.

I think that was the same as my first helmet. It looked really neat, and not too darn girly! I replaced it when I had a crash, not that it cracked or looked damaged at all, but just to be safe. Then I had a white one with "mint" green swirly flower-type things on it, and replaced that when I crashed and it cracked.

Now I have a bright blue Bell Vela (with iridescent flowers -- I only noticed those later -- so much for avoiding girlyness!), because that's what they had at the bike shop that felt comfy when I was there. As a back-up helmet I kept the gray/iridescent one, but I really just have the one helmet. I've never even heard of having multiple helmets to match your bike/outfit until now!

Orange! With silver and grey or something (haven't ridden since October). And it wasn't a visiblility-driven choice - I saw it and thought it was way cool. Extreme dorkism? Perhaps! The visibility is an added benefit. It does not match my blue & silver bike, my pewter bike, or my black bike, but it doesn't clash, either. Probably clashes with most of my clothes. I don't really worry about matching the clothes & helmet with the bike, although I did put bright orange handlebar tape on my road bike, which ties in nicely with the helmet. I've been going through an orange phase lately.

Hey Bron! I had that hot-pink bowling ball! 1989, I think. It was a Vetta Corsa, or something like that. I had to have it, at the time. Maybe one of the reasons I no longer need pink? I may have overdosed over the course of a few years.

Hey, how come the little rolly-eyed guy isn't showing up when I click on him? I suppose about 50 will show up when I submit this.

Gotta go - promised my dog some skijoring today.

I can't believe how many posts this thread has. How funny? I have a blue Giro that is an XXS and it fits. Problem is it is 6 years old and I had to buy a new one. I couldn't find one in that size so I got a white/titanium colored Giro in a small. I guess I could add those little pads they give you.

I have a hard time because I have a HUGE head...so even if I liked the pretty girly colored helmets, they just don't come big enough for all my brains anyway. ;):p

I have the same problem finding helmets (but not the brains problem:D:D). Wish some of the pretty ones came in a size that fit:mad: The only ones that fit are the size large unisex ones. I've yet to find a WSD one that comes close.:(

I have a white helmet. After two accidents that cracked two separate black helmets, I thought maybe it was a bad karma color, so I switched to something lighter and hopefully more visible. And the bright glowing white matches my pale, glowing skin so nicely!! :p
