Yesterday I had to throw in the towel.

We hopped on our road bikes to do a nice, long ride and I had to cut it short. All I could do was 12 miles or so and my legs were really fatigued. Prior to this I've been on the mtb doing fun trails and riding on nearby streets. I thought since I wasn't riding hard and fast that I wouldn't have this problem but lately I noticed I was having to go to a lower gear more and more.

I have a deep fatigue in my legs now, I get pooped just walking, my sleep pattern has changed, and I'm moody. I didn't think I would overtrain doing the kind of rides I was doing but I guess I did. Now I'll have to be off the bike for awhile. :(

I agree Sundial. It sounds like over training. When I get like this my coach makes me take a "black curtain" break. The phrase is taken from a friend of his that trains for RAAM and literally puts black curtains over his windows once a week and tries to sleep about 20 hours in a 24 hour period. What I do is I take the days he's assigned (usually 3 days off when I'm in the state you are in) and during the time I would normally be training, I try to sleep. That means sleeping at least 2 extra hours a day, sometimes 6!! No telephone, no TV, just lying in be and hopefully sleeping.

Even if you don't go to the extreme. You definitely need a break.

Wahine, now I have an excuse to lie in bed. :) Can I take my laptop with me?

NO. :p:p You're supposed to sleep silly. But then again if it means that you rest more than if you didn't take it to bed with you.... I guess it would be OK.

NO! This just means you're lazy and weak! Now get out there and ride till you drop! ;)

Really, spend some quality snug time with your pooches.
