We adopted out an older golden about 4 years ago. We were very careful in matching the dog with the new owner. Many came by and wanted him. People wanted to take him on a hike, play frisbees, play with kids... none of which he was able to do with his arthritis.
Brycee, the dog, had an angel because we found a very nice older lady who also have arthritis. She wanted a companion and understood on a very personal level on what it is to live with arthritis.
She pampered Brycee. He had a special ramp built just for him so he could climb up onto the bed and back down without jumping. Last three years or so, he had accupuncture, doggie chiropractic care... Brycee's first half of his life wasn't the greatest but he made up for it in his new home.
Well, we got a call today... She told us that he had gone deaf several month ago and his eyesight was failing. He couldn't hear at all so was barking all the time, being scared... and his arthritis.
It was his time to join all the other animals at the rainbow bridge. He went to sleep peacefully.
Even though we fostered him for only 6 month or so, we are sad in his passing. He was a wonderful dog. We are also saddend for his owner who now has a void in her life.
We are also very grateful that he had a wonderful life in his last family and that he was loved and cared. Brycee had his dignity to the end and it was peacful.
I have to search for his picture and may try to post it here.
