I had a Blackburn trainer years ago, it was fine, and they generally make good products, but the Kurt is the better trainer. I've had one over a year. Works great, no problems, and well built.
I got a Road Machine in January. I'm very happy with it.

i bought a Blackburn Mag Trackstand at a garage sale a year ago... $15 nothing fancy, but works great! Remember to put something under the front wheel. I was riding "downhill", couldn't figure out why my hands were falling asleep:o 1x4 with a piece of rubber and I'm on the level again.

Liza,
I think that the Blackburn trainer that you're considering has the centrifugal clutch resistance unit that the 1upusa trainer has.
I don't have any experience with the Blackburn trainer, but I have owned the 1upusa trainer for about a year and have about 1000 miles on it. I've been using it about 4 days a week to train for the AIDS/Lifecycle ride, and it's been great. It's really easy to get the bike setup on it and then take it apart. Save for the tire squeak, the trainer itself is very quiet. As far as resistance goes, I find that it's much easier to ride at a certain speed outside than it is on my trainer -- I don't feel cheated during my workouts. On the other hand, the resistance isn't so high that I can't warmup decently.

I've never tried a Kurt Kinetic, but I rode a Blackburn fluid trainer at a local shop. My impression was that its resistance was somehow much "stiffer" than my Cycleops fluid trainer. As a result, it didn't freewheel as well and felt jerky to me. Personally, I wouldn't buy one, based on that test ride. Love my Cycleops and, if you have a Performance Bike store near you, they're blowing them out at $200 (in-store only). DH bought one so that we can train together during the winter :)
