View Full Version : getting back into it
well...I feel like I'm back in weeniedom. Because of that dagblasted virus, I eased up on ALL my excercise; haven't been on the bike for several weeks....
I started walking again. I do about a mile a day that includes mostly hills. And I've been doing the stairs at work...
But my legs hurt! Especially at night, or anytime I lie down or basically get my feet off the floor. My t. antitikis (I'm guessing at the name there..), my knees and arches of my feet.
I know that I need to ease back in and soon I'll be more limber....but in the by and by..are there things I can do to help?
are you wearing good shoes? Are the insoles old?

I am happy for you to be out exercising..at least something...anything.:)
I am in the process of trying to get rid of this virus that will not go away. I dream of when I can get up and function without pain, fever or an of those awful side effects.
I agree with Zen, check your shoes. Maybe you need a new pair. I am afraid of the same leg problem,as when I go back to work, I will be on my feet for 10 hrs straight. This is not good after being in bed for two. My poor muscles have atrophied. I'm sure I have no aerobic capacity anymore.:(
Check how old those shoes are, check the arch support for your foot. I live in Danskos for work, they do not give me leg problems as you have described. I did have the same leg pain when I wore normal tennis shoes before going to Dansko's. Pay for the best shoe you can afford. Your feet will thank you.
I hope this helps. Red Rock

Believe it or not, try Crocs. I didn't think I could walk or stand without custom orthotics for more than 20-30 minutes. I still don't do high-impact activity without them, but for the rest of my non-cycling life I live in Crocs. Unlike any other shoe, I get no arch pain, and my Achilles pain is much reduced. Not only that, but they're actually strengthening my foot muscles, which hyper-rigid custom orthotics and motion control shoes encourage my feet to just get weaker.
hmmm I wondered about that. My Sauconys have been my walking shoes of choice; incredible support...but I was trying to remember when i bought them...2 years ago I think. Time for new ones??
I wear crocs in the house...love 'em.
my shoe of choice for daily stuff is Finn Comfort..maybe I need to shelf my boots for awhile break out the Finns..
