View Full Version : Weird Polar Problem

86 miles into last week's ride my Polar decided my HR was 120 beats. It read like that for the next 80 miles. I thought maybe I was somehow getting interference from my light. I have a generator hub and I leave the light on all the time. Of course I couldn't figure out why it would suddenly start with the interference...
Anyway, a little test this morning shows it's the chest strap that's bad. Lying down on the floor, it still shows 120, Thom takes my pulse and it's 60. Fortunately, I have a second chest strap to use for tomorrow's 200K.
It seems like a weird symptom for batteries going bad though.

That is what happens when my cyclometer battery is starting to go, though. It starts to report strange numbers. Not gobbleDgook numbers (to use a technical term)...just strange results, like a MPH that is WAY off or something.
Hey, good luck on your ride tomorrow! Here's to a perfectly functioning knee, tailwinds but no headwinds, and perfect weather. :)

Well I went to the Polar website after I posted and it is a symptom of battery transmitter death. I guess I'll be getting a new transmitter.
Tomorrow's ride should be easier than less week's - less mileage, less climbing and the weatherman says less wind. :)

I'm glad it's not your generator/lights. My LED lights caused my cateye computer to think I was going 100+ mph.

I had the same thing happen with my Polar when the battery on my watch and the strap started to go bad.
When they sent me back the new one they suggested completely taking it apart when your not using it and wash it once in a while.
