This looks like a good ride. Any interest?
I am thinking seriously of going. It's a week before my MS150 ride so it would be a good warm-up.

I will be posting information about our local ride soon, too. (May 17 - hope you can come!)

That does look like fun. I've ridden around Winchester - very pretty country.

Are you going to be out here then, bike4ever? I missed seeing you last year...:(
That would be very do-able, it's close enough so as not to be an overnighter.
There are no route maps up yet but the brochure photo shows everyone on what looks like a bike path
How far do you plan to ride?
I still haven't decided on the [was it] Tour de Vine and you r MS Ride.
Sometimes I need someone to tell me what to do :p

IFjane - Right now I'm not planning to be there - that could always change though. I'll actually be in Rhoadesville March 21. I'm not planning on bringing my bike since I know how busy I'll be.

Hi Jane!
I might be interested in that June 1 ride! Will depend a little on my work schedule 'round that time.
In the meantime, I'm signed up for the May 10 Capital to Capital. And will probably come up for your local ride, too, the next week, work permitting........:)

It does look like an interesting ride.
Since I am nearly totally ignorant about life on the other side of the Potomac, it would be a fun opportunity to explore Virginny. Something, however, in the back of my mind says that weekend in n.g. I'll keep it on the front burner still. I also forwarded it to a friend of mine in Woodbridge. She and her DH are both quite active cyclists with 2 young kids, so this might be right up their alley.

I've got my big Tour de Cure ride the following weekend, so I doubt I'd get permission to do this ride, but I'll keep it in mind.

Oh, definitely do-able! Keep me posted! I might aim for the 50.

I sent the link to a friend of mine that has developed a cycling addiction. ;) He and I may be up for this one too. I may also be up for trying the 50, but right now a lot depends on getting back some use of my right arm (long story). Hard to ride a bike when you can't extend your right arm. Also hard - brushing my teeth, shifting gears in my car, shaking hands, and changing car radio station. Just a little FYI.

What does he look like, how old is he, and does he like women :p

I will at least do the 50 mile ride - possibly the 70 since I'll have to put together 2 75-milers the next weekend.
As for our local ride - Kathi, VB, Zen & anyone else who can come (pleasepleaseplease come!) - the brochures should be out tomorrow or over the weekend. I will post it whenever it surfaces. Mileage for it is 62, 40 and 16....with maybe a 30 miler thrown in for good measure. May 17.
Zen - the Tour de Vine is awesome! We'd love it if you could join us. :D
So what's the deal with the photos on the site?
Is part of the ride on a nice path like that? surely not the whole ride ?!

Yeah, I was wondering about that, too. Pretty scenery, though!
I'm thinking I might do this Shenandoah Valley ride, since I need to train for Tour de Nebraska (300 miles over 5 days) a couple of weeks later. And Jane, I think I'm going to come down for Tour de Madison also. One of our contractors said she'd like to ride it, but her husband has been ill so he can't do it with her.
The only problem is that I hate to drive, so venturing into Virginia twice might be more than I can take!:D

Oh DB - you have to watch out for us Virginians - if you get too deep into the state, we might just suck you in and you'll never want to leave! :D
DB, this is the good part of Virginia ;)
And if you come up 270 to 70 you can ride with me from there.
I'm in for the TdV
I registered for the MS ride but can't figure out my personal page address
And i might like to do this one too so I thought I'd give it a Bump.
I'd really like to break the fifty mile barrier this year.

I think I am going to sign up for the Shenandoah Valley Heritage Ride on June 1. But, Zen, I'm not sure it makes sense to drive an hour up to Frederick and then over to Winchester, when it's an hour and a half if I go directly. Are you going to do the ride?
What about Tour de Madison? Anybody signed up for that?

I hope LOTS of you come to the TdM - it's fun and awesome and you need to have a post-ride meal at the Pig 'n Steak.....(I'm not kidding)
Zen - did you see my email about your personal page? Do you need more help? Let me know!

I don't think I'm going to make the trek for TdM after all. My contractor that I was going to ride with isn't going to do the ride because her husband still isn't well enough to do it, and she doesn't want to make him feel worse. I don't want to drive that far, ride, and then drive back the same day. And if I need a third excuse, there's no way this vegan would eat at the Pig 'n Steak!

We ate fried dill pickles out in Cambridge over the weekend. Darned addictively good things, and I'd eat 'em as a side dish with sushi anytime.
'Course, I'd probably be sick later, but it'd still be tasty.
And I grew up eating scrapple. Love the stuff, as disgusting as it is.

Well.....that might be pushing it.
But they were more edible than I thought they would be.
Scrapple.....jury is still out. I grew up on sausage and kielbasa, so I figure, it's just a variation on a theme. But when I heard it described to me, I swore it off.
As for high fat foods and bikes...well, try a chili and cheese stuffed potato at Wendy's. Tam...what WAS I thinking?????? Ugh....

If we ever do the Wild Goose Chase again, we have got to do some research to find better eating options in Cambridge. Every meal I ate out there pretty much sucked (with the exception of the fried dill pickles and the brownie after the ride).
You're out on the Bay and didn't have seafood?

There was lump crab on my burger. But I think they thought "medium" meant "cook the burger to a dried out lump of charcoal", so not even lump crab could save it!

I'll be watching CSC. :) I'm supposed to race this Saturday in Poolesville, but I got taken out in a crash last weekend, so the jury is still out on that one. I haven't been back on the bike yet.
I may do my own training weekend in C'ville the 14-15th.

Yeah, I'm ok. I was racing at BikeJam, which is wide and fast and curvy. It was a 3/4 race so super fast and pretty scary with lots of riders from PA and just in general not the usual crowd. In turn 1 (beginning of a wide S curve), some chick off to my left decided to cut really hard from outside to inside (right hand turn) and rammed into the woman on my left. I had to jump a bit right and bumped the woman on my right. This caused me to go back left, but the woman on my left was still coming at me. We bumped against each other several times. I was able to keep it going though. And then when I thought I was finally going to make it, someone screamed and hit me again (I think rear wheel?) such that I started skidding out. I kind of went under the bike to my left and spun around. I landed on my head on the right. My helmet is totally trashed. Minor bruises and road rash. The bike is fine except for some scratches on the left of the front wheel and fork (that plus a nice chain print on my left calf makes me think I went under a bike). Bar tape shredded on right and pedal scratched, but overall ok. I'm just pissed to have been caught in the middle of a chain reaction. And it's scary to think of how bad it could've been.
I haven't ridden yet, because my head is still too bruised to feel like wearing a helmet. (I got a new one). I may venture out tomorrow afternoon.
The aftermath (I was dizzy and my head hurt, but I got up pretty quickly):

Wow, I'm not sure if you're my hero or if I should be scared for you. Let that noggin heal and I'm glad your helmet did its job.
