Last night the dogs were quiet for a change. We'd gone on a 2 hour snowshoe and they were beat. But the cats... For some reason both cats were ferklempt. Houston went downstairs and just started yowling for no reason that we could figure except to hear his voice. And Riley, usually so calm and quiet, was running back and forth over the bed (and us), chirping and meowing.
Rather than get po'd since we were trying to go to sleep, my SO came up with new nicknames for them that had me chuckling for a while. Houston is "The Fuzzy Fuss-A-Lot" (try saying it out loud) and Riley is "The Dutchess of Screech". lol I think those names may stick around for a while. :p

cute names, but I bet dollars to donuts SOMETHING was going on that they wanted you to know about....
my friend's german shepherd wouldn't let them sleep during an ice storm the other night, kept circling their bed and whimpering. Before morning came, trees in their backyard started coming down, one scraping the house - and if the trunk had snapped a little further down, it would have crashed right through that part of the house. Champ could hear what was happening inside the trees...
Made me wonder how many folks arrive at the gates of heaven saying, "oh, THAT's what was bothering the dog/cat/horse,etc)" with their last words being, "for pete's sake, Spot, SHUT UP!"

Trek's dog gets jealous when she's on the phone, and makes a lot of noise. One night while she was on the phone the dog was REALLY noisy... cuz someone was breaking into the house through the livingroom window downstairs!

I agree, animals usually get agitated over something. With the dogs it's usually something like coyotes or other dogs outside... something tangible. With cats it's an interference in the force or ripples in the astral plane... something that mere human senses can't detect.
Here are the cats. Houston, We Have a Problem is on top and Riley is in the tube. (Sorry it's sideways. I tried to fix it, but it still copied sideways.)

Such sweeties! almost perfect matches to our Dayhunter and elf. (yes, she spells it all lowercase) I have a totally unscientific theory that tabby cats are the smartest of their kind.

I guess mine would be the exception that proves the rule... :) She's sweet but dumb. :D

We have a little boy tabby just liek them named Ito'san who likes to hear himself talk too. He's the "sweet but dumb" kind as well. :p He's so lovable though. He climbed into bed with me this morning (an hour before I'm supposed to wake up for work ) because he needed petted and loved up a bit. Total cuddle kitty. :D

Riley, the one in the condo, is sweet, but not a rocket scientist. She's basically a living plush toy.
Houston, on the other hand, is well named. He's the darned smartest cat I've ever owned. We had to put baby locks on all of the drawers and cabinets in the kitchen and bathrooms. He learned to open all of them before we put the locks on, and would ransack the kitchen when we weren't looking. I'm sure that if we had levers instead of knobs on the doors he would be able to open those, too.
