Wow!
Before I realized what you meant by "raincoats", I thought, "Wow, that would be a great dress to use in the AIDS/Lifecycle Red Dress Day."
After I realized what you meant by "raincoats," I thought, "Wow, that would really be a great dress to use in the AIDS/Lifecycle Red Dress Day." :p

I had no idea they came in so many colours...
I like it.
It's imaginative, colorful, and really not a bad looking dress.
I would wear it.
Notice the gentleman is wearing a red ribbon. I'm sure it was designed for some sort of design competition.

Yeah. I bet it was a competition for using recycled materials to make garments. I've seen weaver buddies make really cool vests out of garbage bags.

Recycled? As in reused? :eek::eek:

Uh....no. I think they were surplus unused. The vest was great--very chic, actually.

Flybye - check out the fellow looking at the "party" dress. It's a clue, he has on a name tag type thing, and is wearing a red ribbon pin, isn't that for HIV/Aids awareness? Or anti-drug use or something? I bet this was part of an event to promote awareness about HIV/Aids somehow. Tokie.

Lord, I hope the "raincoats" aren't recycled!

I was curious about this so googled 'condom dress' and found more pics of this one and lots of pics of others. http://ahboon.net/2007/07/19/condom-fashion-show-in-china/ and http://pandagon.blogsome.com/2006/12/08/condom-dresses/ are quite good.

I'm with Zen. I like it. It's actually a really elegant design.

It was likely done as an Aids awareness thing, and that's good. It's funny and creative as well. :)

Maybe you could give it some sort of "magic pill" that will help it stand up by itself.

Well, is the dress lined?
I think it would be very sweaty, ah, with all of that rubber...

Like a bicycle pump? :)
(she asks innocently)
Well, is the dress lined?
Yes. It has a nice satiny smooth lining. For your pleasure ;)
Really though, when i see that dress I see it with the top made of satin rosettes and the bottom is light, breezy chiffon. It's just a nice, light, springy pastel dress. That dress makes me feel happy :)

Hi Kelowna girl! "Tokie" is a nickname derived from my last name. (I used to be "Smitty") Any jokes I get about my current surname are far surpassed by the amount of jokes I got as a Smith! ("oh yeah, that's not your real name!", etc!) The desire to unload Smith surpassed my feminist values! Carol

Indeed! If a father ever did make such a dress for his daughter, he'd be doing her a great favor!

Hey, it must stretch enough to be one-size-fits-all :D
As for doing the girl a favour ... I wonder if those "raincoats" have been sewn through or glued. Either way, I doubt they're much use as "raincoats" any more.

I agree..it would be a most loving act. A wish fufillment.
Besides...it is quite beautiful.
