View Full Version : Actually getting excited... and a bit nervous

for my 300 K Saturday. I had no enthusiasm for the 200 K, even before the weather report caused me to bail. I was not at all excited for the original date of the 300 K. But now I'm really looking forward to it.
It looks like there are only 2 or 3 other women signed up. I don't really like the route from the Golden Gate Bridge out to Fairfax. But I'll suck it up. The rest of the course looks pretty good - a little hilly.
I expect to be fairly slow and I haven't ridden more than 60 miles in a long time, not since September, so jumping to 180 will be interesting. I know I will be thrashed on Sunday. It's a good thing I have 20 hours.

Good luck!!! Now that the endurance bug is still in my blood, I'm jealous of all the 300k's you guys have. Might have to move west!

Pedal - you really should come out here for a double or something!!
V - I really wish I were doing the ride. I love the route - so much is similar to the 600k I did - they have revamped the 300k route, I believe from what it was years past. It is going to be a great ride. (The only part I don't like so much is some of the industrial/urban stuff between Petaluma and Santa Rosa. Once you get past Windsor, it's great again.) You have, shall we say "cahones", for tackling that distance with no real long rides this year. But you're just stubborn enough to make it work! :D I hope you have a great ride, and do call if you end up needing something.

What ride is this? Maybe by next year I'll be in the sort of shape to try something like this out. :)

San Francisco 300 K Brevet. It's put on by the San Francisco Randonneurs. They have a website. You can google it. :) Work connection is too slow and flaky for me to get the link.

V, you just crack me up. You're so fr!ggin' tough I can't believe it. You know, a bump of 120 extra miles...it's just a flesh wound! :p :D
(I know you have the experience of mileage under your belt...it just kills me.)

I was thinking the same thing. You've got it though V. Happy riding.

I think since I've done some freakishly long rides - Central Coast at 209 miles! - I just kinda figure, what the heck. I know how to fuel myself and what works and where to keep my heart rate. I know things will hurt. It's just a question of how much and what. I don't think it will be my back. I've had two months of consistent core work.
I'm worried about the saddle time and its effects. I'm hoping for 15 hours or less.
Here's the route with an elevation profile at the bottom. None of the climbs are more than 800 feet. :D It looks like it's actually about 188 miles.

Well, it looks like a pretty ride at least. We were out today and the wildflowers are already starting to come out. You'll probably see lots of mustard. It seems to be in full bloom and in abundance in the vineyards and on the hillsides.
I agree- once you get past Fairfax on the way up and back, at least you'll be out of most of the traffic until you come back through Santa Rosa.
Have a great ride- at the moment the weather is looking good. You are always up for a challenge so this will be another to tell us about later!:D
Looking forward to your ride report!

Veronica, I will be thinking about you tomorrow and wondering how far you have riden by such and such a time. I think it is a testiment to your biking ability to ride this far, in a day. I tip my helmet to you:p

Yowzer, V, you're an animal. You'll do great! I wish you the best out there: little wind, good temperatures, smooth roads, and plenty of fuel. Can't wait to hear all about it!

Try to have fun, although I know without The Perfect Jersey it will be tough. :)
Should be a good day for riding.
That's amazing! Best of luck you to, I know I'm too scared to attempt a ride that long. Much respect to you.

Good luck V, I am still trying to get a metric or a century under my belt. Are these the roads Levi uses to train on when he is home?
Once again, good luck and happy eating.

Only did 2 hours. :D Thom is a wiseacre. (It IS my longest ever and I did do the first 2 sets with perfect ECT gearing).
Rain??? Where? Holy cow that's wild. It was gorgeous in Sonoma -must have been on the coast?
260 k is great! I want to read the report, but have to say I'm impressed! That's your longest ride since Knoxville, right? Well done!
