I am so excited! We lost our sweet Pepper, the best Boston Terrier ever, in Dec. 2006 at the age of 14-3/4. We'd had her her entire life and adored her. Being childless, she was like the child we could never have. We had vowed that we would go at least a year after her death before considering getting another dog, in order to take time to travel and see what life was like without a dog in the house. We had a blast, and the freedom was refreshing, but as time went on, I really started missing having a dog around. Pepper was more entertaining than TV, computers, and most anything else!
I figured my DH was not interested in getting another dog, because life was definitely simpler without a pet, if not as rich. But recently he let it be known that he was getting way too lonely around the house without a pet (he's retired, I'm still working). I have a good friend of whose mom had a pair of Bostons who had just had a litter, so I checked into it, and she said our timing was perfect. We could have the pick of the litter if we came to see the pups this week before she advertised them next weekend.
So, we went to see the pups today, and they were darling. We met the parents too, and they are both very healthy and have great dispositions and are just the right size. We spent some time with all the puppies, and before we knew it, we had picked a female (SO hard to choose) and put down a deposit. We are so excited! Here she is:

And here are the happy parents-to-be:

We are going to name her Paisley. I had a dream about six months ago that we got a Boston Terrier puppy and named her Paisley (a name I had never consciously thought of or heard for a dog). So I figure it is meant to be!
Now, we have to remember all the things to do and buy for a new puppy as it's been 16 years since we went through this! :) :p

Congratulations on the new addition!! Love the name. When does Paisley come home?
Sometimes I feel my girls are a big pain but they make up for it amusement and love. My mother wants a Boston after having one for years named Booger, they are such cuties!!

Three weeks! We have a lot to do..... but it will be fun. :)

How wonderful!! And what a beautiful pup!!
I read your post to my honey, we lost our beloved Border Collies three years ago and like you, have found the freedom of not having a dog enticing but lacking. Maybe when we buy another house...

Awwwwwww, so cute. And, you'll have a running buddy when she gets big enough. My step daughter's boston is a great running bud.

Oh my goodness, could your baby girl be any cuter??
Ooooooh, puppy breath. :D Remind yourself getting a puppy is good for your health and mental well being once you get past the puppy chewy, potty, poopie stage.

Just wanted to add, here are a few things that I have found useful for all my fosters and puppies:
1. Nylabone puppy rubber chew bones
2. Comfort Zone plug-in diffuser
3. warming disc (or old fashioned hot water bottle) wrapped in a towel and placed in their crate or bedding at bedtime
4. bedding such as old sweatshirt or towel with your scent
5. Ruff Wear leash that snaps around your waist and the dog's collar--makes an excellent way to keep track of your puppy and to facilitate quicker bonding
6. Crate--best way to help potty train and reduce puppy destruction in the house.
7. Patience--you're gonna need it!
8. Camera--we want LOTS of pics. :) :)
Emily, you and your hubby are cute as a couple.

Gosh I love puppies at that age! Never get tired of seeing them and SMELLING them... think that is my favorite smell!
Enjoy her and good luck. You're going to have your hands full for awhile, but as you well know, it is SO worth it!

Pick up the dog training books by the Monks of New Skete
The Art of Raising a Puppy and also the book How to be Your Dog's Best Friend.

Also check with your public library, thay may even have the books there. I do dog training part time and when our students ask for good books to read, these are the 2 that we always recommend. You will learn a lot from them.

Absolutely adorable. Please bottle some of that puppy breath and send it to me. I love the way they all sleep on their backs. Tummy rubs all the way around. Congrats on the new addition.

Emily, She's beautiful!! BTW, dogs are great on boats, especially if they get used to it early. You will need one of those little doggie lifejackets. Congrats!!

I would have to second the above. After yet again another frustrating day at work I saw the picture of your puppy and it brought a smile to my face. Thanks

She's a cute little bundle! I'm sure she'll be a lot of fun.
Now it's time to save all the extra newspapers, get lots of paper towels/other anti-mess stuff, get something that ticks or makes a good sounds for sleeping, get a few good chew toys, and put away shoes/secure cords/hide wastebaskets . . .
and above all, make some play time!
Congratulations!

Heheh, we have BOTH these books in our library and are rereading them now! Haven't had to crack them for nearly 16 years, so we'd forgotten a lot, but it istarting to come back. Thanks for the pointers -- glad to know we have good books!

Thanks Nina -- I already bookmarked a BoatUS article on doggie lifejackets and will get one before we take her down there. We'll wait until she's housebroken (or pretty close) and walking properly on a leash before we take that step, but it will be fun having her down there. A lot of folks in our marina have dogs, and we even met the nicest Boston Terrier down there visiting once.

Congratulations and Emily and I lots of luck. Paisley is absolutely adorable. Although Buddy our Shitz Tsu is only 8, I often wonder if I would get another dog when when the time comes of not having him with us. He is just so perfect.
Anyway, I look forward to your updates when Paisley is home.

I do believe I saw him on that thread and even commented on how cute he was! Bostons are the best. Once you've been owned by one, it's hard to imagine owning any other breed. We didn't even give a thought to anything but another Boston.

Okay Wahine- Your right somedays bundle of energy isn't correct terms more like a FORCE OF NATURE! However, right now he is being an absolute doll. Brody is at his best curled up at my feet and snoring very loudly! I love it when he's sleeping!

We still have work to do (another outside light to wire and a fenced area to put in) and a few more things to buy (like food!), but we'll get it done in time. She comes home on Saturday, March 22. We can't wait!!! :D
And they called it puppy love.....

Okay y'all, prepare for a cute overload -- latest Paisley photo! This was taken by the breeder last weekend. She said that Paisley is really loving -- loves to smooch. :p

She comes home with us Saturday. We have purchased all her supplies and have re-read several great puppy books. My DH has been putting in a small fenced area with landscape lighting for her to do her business (and we'll take her on walks on our trails), and it's ready for her now.
Soooooo excited! I'm taking off work Mon-Wed to help DH with puppy duties and bond with her. I know I wouldn't be able to concentrate on anything else anyway. :D

Emily....wishing you and your dh lots of luck. Paisley is adorable. That is a great idea that you are taking off from work to help and bond. Also, this is such a great time of year to get a puppy with spring weather temps arriving.
I will look forward to you posting updates when time permits.
What a great weekend you have to look forward to, actually, tomorrow!!!
