The clothes are cool but I am not sure about the attitude with the team. It seems a little uppity. Plus I don't know if I believe the riders or the tests on their three that are under investigation yet again for doping. They were gaining a decent following at the ToC. I will see about my opinion at the end of the season.

I'm kind of torn on this team.
They add a certain bad boy rock-n-roll bravado to the peleton.
I'm not sure I like the touted "win or be fired" mentality.
A dash of the NBA in a very Euro sport.
Not two flavors that mix very well. Bound to leave a bad taste in many mouths.

I can't believe these guys aren't totally embarrassed to be seen in the super-hero-wanna-be costumes.

snapdragon, I totally agree!

Mario "Cipo" makes boys swoon too! :D

From what I have read the only big downside is the huge attitude Michael Ball has had regarding three of his riders, Tyler Hamilton being one of them, not being allowed to ride in the Tour of California. Personally, I don't know if it's right to support a rider who has been accused and/or convicted of doping. There are a million other riders out there who can be just as good and be twice as honest.

I hope they make the statement that Rock Racing wants...hey, they got mario out of retirement right? I just hope these "bad boys" of racing keep it clean...all of them.

as for their outfits....LOVE them. They look like they can kick ***...

(still secretly in love with Slipstream riders...i think it's because of the argyle.)

Wowza!!!!!!!!

Where do we get the tunes they used in their video segment on the home page?? Seriously.

I wanna superhero costume, too, but I will settle for the tunes and ride "undercover".

The kits are cool. Not sure about the attitude either. And what I absolutely do not like is their use of gas-guzzling Cadillacs as their team vehicles. Gimme Slipstream's Beamers any day! (or Jittery Joe's minis):D

I've been thinking about this (and also don't like the Caddy's as team cars).
Does it seem strange that a team's CAR is now a source of identity for a team as much as the BIKE?

The Cadillac CTS, I think that's what they are using, gets 17miles city, 26 miles highway - very similar to a Subaru Forester XT.

I don't know what BMW Slipstream is using, but it's unlikely to be much better. The Mini of course gets much better mileage.

I do not like the attitude of Rock racing. You don't have to be mean a$$ or bad a$$ to be good. And what's with that skull... (well at least its not the Jolly Roger)

I miss this Pirate....troubled as he was:
The Pirate - Marco Pantani (http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/news/story?id=1735252)

Yea, they're caddies, but that sports car model I saw in Modesto was hot, ya gotta admit. Paint job's fab. ;)

I see from their website (http://www.rockracing.com/schedule/index.php) that they're supposed to be at our race next weekend (Merco Cycling Classic (http://http://www.mercocyclingclassic.com/) Crit and RR; March 1 & 2). I doubt Cipo will be there, but I'll try to take pics of whoever is. They have a women's team too, and I'm sure they'll be in full force. Merco's not NRC this year, but it's in a new 3-race series packed with cash winnings, so it'll be a great show.

I am personally SO SO SO happy that Cipo is racing again.

And not just because I got him to sign my tire. My old tire. From when he was racing, you know, before.

Guess I'm old enough that bad-boys (and all the drama & ego that come with them) hold no appeal anymore. Hate the skull. Reminds me of every little punk out there in a lowered Honda pretending to be Racer X.

Hey gals,

This is really in response to all the skull-haters:-)

I think the Rock & republic logo that Rock Racing has incorporated into their cycling kits is not necessarily a way of showing off how "bad A$$" they are. Rock and republic has been a fashion mainstay for a few years (Michael ball got a lot of flack for his label when it first started too). Since he essentially runs Rock Racing, why not put his trademark logo on every part of their body?

I think it's great. Many people who may never have considered cycling to be anything more than the new golf will start seeing it as something exciting and rejuvinated. Ok--Michael Ball has a bad attitude. He shouldn't put people who have given cycling a bad name in the past on a pedestal. But I think after a few years they can really become as Bad A$$ as they claim they are now.

Well said Bicycluz, I think this team is just very polarizing. I actually like the kits, the are far from boring! Well the shorts I am not a fan of, but the jerseys I like. I do not like that they hired three guys knowing they would possibly not be able to ride if Operation Puerto was reopened and then whined about it when they couldn't start the ToC. I do like Cippolini and Fast Freddie Rodriguez. I like the Caddies- they make a statement. See, I can't even make up my mind about Rock Racing! :p

I love that with so many sponsers fleeing pro cycling, that this guy is pouring money IN. And no matter how much I've outgrown 'bad boys' - I still get a kick out of it! Honestly, to be a pro cyclist, you have to have a bit of 'bad boy' to ride in such a body-crushing sport. YES, even the ever gentle George H. (YAY for his win today in Stage 7 of TOC!!!!)
And Cipo? He's one fit 41 year old! That's awesome too.

I have a feeling, we're going to be seeing ALOT of the RR kits on the road when they come availiable. More than the argyle of Slipstream, as much as I love those boys!

I guess I shouldn't complain too much. Like someone said, he IS pouring money into the sport. He is making it more appealing to the younger generation with the logo and all...

And thanks to BikeMomma for the link to M. Pantani. After his death, I've always felt sorry for the pirate. To be broken by Armstrong...

Forty-one is young. A professional athlete should look good at 41.

too Miami Vice for my tastes.
I'm starting to go in for the moustache and argyle look :)

I saw them at the Tour of California. Cipo was the only rider with "handlers" escorting him to the start line. I am still technically challenged, so I cannot post the pictures I took of their entourage. Picture right to left, merchandise booth, team cars, large black bus, older model Rolls Royce and then an SUV. Across the street were about 20 motorcycle cops, all in a row facing the Rock Racing group. While it wasn't intentional (the cops were regrouping after the start), it made an interesting shot that is on my computer but I can't get to post here. They definitely have a 'tude.

I feel really out of it. I just saw the second to last stage of ToC on Versus on Saturday...can't do the wee hours of the morning thing! Anyway...I saw the Rock Racing commercial before I even noticed teh team in the tour. I thought it was really cool becuase this summer I was in Wisconsin and saw them in a crit (not w/ all the cool gear, clothing and colors) but saw the team car and entourage. Thought they were cool then. So I guess I think they are still "cool" now to me. This thread has given me some info and background. But I still think they are fun and cool to watch. Right now what we need is some excitement (other than who will get kicked out of the Tour d/t drugs) in cycling!
