Shrug

How is a shrug supposed to fit?
(ETA-now I see a shrug is a completely different thing. What I call a shrug they call bolero)

The photo looks as though it would be jacket-like. What would be called a bolero. But it doesn't fit like that.
I just got one from Terry thru TE.

Is it too small?
The sizes rum s/m or L/XL. I bought s/m.
normally I take a medium.The sleeves are plenty long enough.

I have a bad feeling I may be selling this.

I bought one from Sheila Moon. They do fit snugly, like arm warmers. I don't like the way it looks! They look so cute in the Terry catalogue, but my jerseys seem to bunch up under the bolero, and my jerseys aren't too loose. I think they go better with sleeveless jerseys, but if it's hot enough to wear sleeveless, then I wouldn't need a bolero.

I have a Terry one, and it fits like a cardigan sweater, but really short. It basically serves the same function as arm warmers, but since it's connected in the back, it isn't binding at the top of your arms.

I wear mine all the time. My winter riding ensemble looks like this:

high-tech base layer
cashmere turtle neck sweater
bolero
craft cycling jacket

If it's really cold, I'll add armwarmers as the outermost layer. Yeah, I can't put my arms down, but I'm warm!

Oh, and I dont think you want a bigger size. I think it will make the sleeves too long.

Give it a try and see what you think. It may grow on you.

I'm interested ZC to see if you stick with it, and to hear other reports about them...pros/cons.
I really hate arm warmers....I mean, really!...but I see (and use) their value. A better option would be welcome.

I mostly like my terry bolero. There is the bunchiness problem with the sleeve. But it does give coverage to the shoulder/arm joint. Nothing else does.

I like my Terry bolero. Sometimes the vent in the back of my Showers Pass jacket lets too much air in and my shoulders and upper arms get cold, and the bolero does the trick. Then on the afternoon commute, I leave off the bolero and open the pit zips, and the temp is perfect again. It's a very useful thing, but you do have to get used to the feeling of having it stretched across your shoulders.

Regina -- I love my boleros. The across-the-back thing doesn't bother me, though. I've never noticed my jersey bunching up under the bolero, regardless of whether it's a race or club cut top. What I like a lot is their versatility because you can wear them over sleeveless jerseys, which is something I wouldn't do w/regular arm warmers (although I've noticed that's kind of a triathlon fashion thing, isn't it?).

I have the "bolero light" in sliver. Its a good weight for layering. Probably the other one would be better for those days that start out freezing, then warm to over 70 by mid-ride, worn over a short-sleeved or sleeveless jersey. I haven't seen it, so I'd be concerned about how small it rolls up and fits into your jersey pocket. The light one fits in easily.

Zen, if you end up hating your bolero, I'll buy it from you.

I'll keep it. It just felt weird but I think it will work well for what it's intended to do.

I have the Terry Bolero and love it. I've read that they work best over sleeveless since they don't cause them to bunch up as much as SS jerseys. At least in my part of the country there are quite a few rides which start off cool enough to need long sleeves and warm up to sleeveless temps later. Sometimes, just warming your body up after the first big climb is enough to ditch the bolero.

I just bought the arm coolers here on TE, and I tried them on when they arrived yesterday. They feel strange and look even stranger, but I'm getting more and more concerned about sun exposure on my skin during summer so I'm going to wear them (and they're supposed to keep me cool so that's a bonus). I'm glad I read this, makes me know the strange sensation of how they feel is normal. ;)
