My trusty 12 year old Waterford-built Rivendell developed a crack in the joint between the seat tube & one of the seat stays, and the joint had to be re-brazed (hooray for steel).
Poor Dusty's paint had been dinged up some by it's previous owner - and by me :o - and I had been thinking about getting her repainted for a while. So this was a good a time as any.
We picked her up from the painter today. Rick at D&D Cyles in San Lorenzo did a fabulous job - this picture doesn't do it justice.

We tried to match the original color - a really stunning dusty rose metallic. The color is a bit richer now, could just be that the original paint had faded or the old clear coat had yellowed. He did a fancier paint job, filling in the lug cutouts with cream paint, which isn't all that apparent in the picture. I was hoping Rick could get the original Rivendell decals from that era (the decals had an arrow motif back then) but he could only get the current ones, which is fine, they actually look better than the old ones.
Dusty is now being built up by Chris at Robinson Wheelworks - he says hi to Trek420 and bikerz, by the way! - and I should have my sweet "new" ride by the beginning of March. :)

Very cool! What are you planning for your first ride?

Wow, beautiful. The cream might seem like a small thing but I bet it really sets it off.

I am weeping into my cheap Merlot over the utter beauty of that frame.
Tell Chris the owner of the Thriftstore Giant says "Hi"! (she did NOT come from a dumpster, honest!)

Cedar, the Thriftstore Giant should be heading to Chris (hi Chris!!) on Saturday. He'll have at least 3 TE bikes in his shop; Dusty II, Cedar and Rougedog's Bridgestone that is still there I think.
Thank G*d for steel :D

Oh that is so nice to see that gorgeous rose Rivendell all fixed up again!
My DH has a Rivendell road too, quite similar, about 7 years old. Same headbadge and decals, etc :p ....An icey blue version (maybe your bike could 'date' our bike? :

There was a Bridgestone at Wheelworks when I was there - could that have been Rougedog's??? It was a deep orange and freakin' gorgeous.

Good question! I'll want to do a few short rides around the 'hood to dial her back in again.
I suppose the first big ride on Dusty will either be the Davis 200K brevet on the 8th, or, Don & Mimi's Mad March Hare ride on the 15th (if I opt for the Santa Cruz brevet on the 22nd instead of Davis).
( Unless it rains, then it's Pokey - I have the fenders worked out nicely on him. )

I think I'm going to do the Davis 200 and 300 Ks and not go to Solvang. I'd rather use Thom's vacation days for something else - like finishing our floors, or a longer vacation in the summer.
Besides Solvang is only 193 miles, the 300 K is nearly the same distance and I don't have to drive as far or stay in a hotel. :D

I know what you mean. Most of my big rides except for Shasta are close to home. Although I might head down to San Diego / Rancho Cucamonga for their brevet over Mem Day weekend the end of May.

Ah yes, the Davis 300K. Unfinished business for me. But it shall remain that way, at least for this year.

Oh by the way, feel free to take this thread OT. It's my thread so I said so.
There's only so much you can say about a frame - but thanks for the compliments, everyone ! Yep, I'm one happy camper. More so when I can actually ride the bike ...
I'll of course post more pics once she's built up.

Actually he is. We've both managed to repress the hard work it was to do the flooring in the rest of the house. We have just one room left and it would be nice to have it done and not hanging over our heads as summer approaches.
We have been putting it off since the piano must be moved out and then back in again. We're not moving a 7 1/2 foot grand ourselves.

I was just at Chris's 2 nights ago - a friend of mine is considering a new bike, maybe a custom Seven, so we chatted with Chris for an hour or so about options - it took me back to those heady days of my own Seven planning :D
I saw RD's Bridgestone there (still), and heard about the planned arrival of Dusty. Can't wait to see the photos of Dusty when she is all done!
